To be fair, it could be said that most civilizations- particularly civilizations this old were in 'easy mode locations'. I mean, we're still probably 5,000 BCE+ relative to our timeline. And there might be some civilizations in the Andes, India, and the Balkans- it's very scattered right now. We just happen to be in the area where civilization seems to have begun.

And then I'm sitting here thinking about the metal faction's worries about being behind. Then I remember the Bleeding Cliffs and realize that if we play it well we can catch up and then leapfrog ahead of literally every one we know.
Iron awaits. Eventually.
Yeah: some starting positions give you good starting game but fall flat in the long run, others are good in the long run but have difficult starting requirements and finally, there is the medium option where you don't have a natural resource-Golden Age but are stable somewhere in the mediocre-average-good spectrum the entire game.
The thing is, we had a good position to start with in some ways and then proceeded to focus down paths which integrated others into itself to fill out weaknesses and expanding our borders.
At this point, we are basically in our beginning-phase Golden Age when it comes to resources. When Trading truly kicks in, though in the middle-phase though... we need to start creating more expo-
Oh right. We now have LUDICROUS SALT RESERVES.
Methinks we are good for when the middle-phase kicks in, as we will be a big nation by then (possibly in more than just development, too.) Now we only need to make certain we don't get destroyed by the true powerhouses of beginning phase: Steppe Nomads -

Good location does not necessarily mean advancement. Just as bad location doesn't necessarily mean no development.

You forget that those took centuries to develop as far as they did. Heck, Mexico had huge iron deposits too, doesn't mean they developed them.

I know they did, I just figured they're traverse to trade them northward, or that traders who didn't have llamas north of them would be like "How much for that animal?" and thus llamas would just be chained onward.
1 turn for Dam + 2 turns Expansion + 2-3 turns Trade = ~6 turns till we enter Progress, which will give us the metal knowledge and possibly better kilns needed to smelt pig iron.
Will probably have to wait even longer until we realize it has value and make a settlement to mine it, though.

Speaking of our coming golden age, I think we should moderate our stability spending. If our people get used to this level of abundance and happiness then they'll take stability much worse on a per-point basis than they have in the past.
Going from +3 stability to 0 by taking in refugees would probably generate panic and possibly spawn another faction. Remember how our people were going on and on about our average kings not being heroes...because they got used to excellence? It started a whole damn thing that costed us stability when our kings couldn't satisfy them.

Ok so I'm going to make a wild guess that we succeeded in what we set out to do or somesuch but the people out in the lowlands did something silly. Be it accidentally a disaster or having a region wide noodle incident... ohh noodles. Or it could be something completely different all i know it'll probably be amusing.

1) All of them sent a major trading mission to someone at the exact same time and show up at the border together.
2) A wild Rasputin spawns and proceeds to knock up everyone.(the female leaders, the male leaders wives, their female cousins, their daughters, their granddaughters.. ect,)
3) a splinter group forms who raids everyone but fails at doing so in a pathetic manner but due to weird rolls don't get squashed.
4) An entire tribe of Amazons decided to randomly appear causing everyone to go WTF and become absorbed by us as we're probably the most understanding.
5) Something weird happens(comets) and the frantic religious fervor spawns an attempt to create a single organized religion.
6) all the groups get tired of fighting(ha fat chance) and sue for peace which leads to them going to us to draft them a peace treaty as a neutral party.*Switzerland harder*
