Killing Palpatine won't be enough. As Terry Pratchett once wrote:

Palpatine is a Sith Lord, but he's only part of the equation. The Galactic Empire didn't rise up overnight (despite what the movies tell us). Palpatine has built a great network of loyal followers, unwitting pawns and a sprawling military-industrial complex, to bring about the goals of an ideology that has found fertile soil in the Clone Wars.

To save the Republic, the Jedi and ourselves we need:
1) a organised and powerful opposition able to seize power in the immediate aftermath.
2) to have neutralised every Palpatine loyalist that could cause trouble.
3) to remove Palpatine's cult of personality (though his rise to power mirrors Hitler, his public persona is more like FDR).
4) to dismantle any plots that could doom the Galaxy if left unattended.
While the Pratchett quote is relevant, Palps is a Sith which changes the equation. He's the linchpin inwhich the Galactic Empire forms. But you are right though, there's enough moving parts that even if we kill him, the Republic could still be shattered into a variety of warring states.

You're misreading me. As a reminder what I said was, "You're assuming he'd be at his office during the operation to kill him."

You misread me. I'm saying if we decide to try and kill him while he's at his office we'd only move on him while he's at his office. Whether he remains there for the duration of our attack is another matter entirely, and something we'll have to deal with.

Which brings us back to my purposal with the droid snipers and suicide bombers. I understand your hesitance to have us kill him using them, but that doesn't mean they can't be used in support of the operation. They'd be good for softening the target and providing a distraction while we make our move.

Then I would think that the solution to that problem would be obvious. If he is the linchpin to the empire, and removing it would cause the entire republic and CIS to selfdestruct, then the solution is to replace the current linchpin with a different one. No one is irreplaceable, and it is said that an enlightened despot is better than a democratic government. The issue is that when said person dies, the successors inevitably muck it up.

The difference is Pratchett said that in relation to the real world, where there isn't an ancient cult of evil wizards secretly pushing the world forwards those conditions. In SW there is, and removing them from the equation greatly simplifies the rest of the problem. There will still be plenty of conflict and turmoil, but if you remove the ones instigating them, like the Vong and the Sith, suddenly there's a whole lot less of them, and the ones you do have are a whole lot easier to deal with.

People are overlooking the obvious here. The man does leave Coruscant on occasion. And space flight? It's such a... dangerous way to travel. So many things can go wrong, they can hardly be counted. And so many of them are nearly impossible to predict and leave no evidence whatsoever. Every so often a ship simply... disappears into hyperspace never to be seen again.

Ahh, okay. That makes much more sense then, sorry for misunderstanding you.

I'm using it anyway because it'd be awesome and I'd like to do things with it.

Hey guys I think we have a new target to steal.

Honestly seeing Sidious die from anything NOT a final battle would be disappointing.

The death of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, came about suddenly and was quite graphic, in the middle of a speech to the Galactic Senate, the man tripped on the hem of his robe and fell off his platform and onto the representative from the outer rim system of, the elemental plane of honey badgers. By the time the senatorial guards reached the chancellor, the representative had all ready acted to defend herself and her children, who were visiting for the day, from what she though was an attempt on her life. There were 73 casualties.

Can't we just send a bunch of deniable assinasions against him? Even if each only has a 1% chance of working it should work eventually. Also it should make him lose sleep and miss Senate meetings. If we can force him to hole up in his office it should really slow him down.

I am also in favor of sending random assassination attempts his way, if only to probe his defenses.

All non-traceable to us, of course.

Of course, the problem is that after like...two or so, it'll become obvious just by the amount of cash blown who is financing the assassinations, Sheeve Gets Peeved and 66s.

I think its pretty clear by now DO THIS THE FUN CLIMATIC BATTLE WAY. >:[

No, random assassinations gives him ammo to "take more stringent security measures."
The more security measures you take the more limited your movements become and considering how many secrets he has that would really slow him down. Remember he is a public figure he can't just hole up he has to stay public.

Gather war assets for the final battle? I'm now reminded of Mass Effect 3.

He has loads of possible enemies that can be blamed there is a war going on.

Militarily, we currently cannot guarantee a successful assassination attempt given that Palpatine is likely extraordinarily powerful as he has been able to hide himself from the Jedi directly under their noses and commands the already powerful Sith Dooku. In addition, he is surrounded by highly-trained guards and well-protected security systems on Coruscant at all times; even with the SSS in play it would currently be extremely difficult to get a team in to kill him.
Hmm. Looks like we should do this on or near Naboo, then? Probably the most likely planet he would visit when not on Coruscant the rest of the time.
Ciaran's Mysterious Voyage: Ciaran hasn't revealed any details about the time when she left on a "personal trip," but it's clear to everyone that she's...different now. Those who know her best say that she's still herself, but she's become much more "centered" as those closest to her have put it. The only other person who has any ideas on the matter is Asajj Ventress, and while she's become noticeably more relaxed she's remained tight-lipped on the matter.
Oh gods, this reads entirely differently with shipping googles on. All those shipping tropes. >_>

Not to mention that Ciaran personally led a risky, mid-battle rescue of Asajj while Asajj was still on the enemy side.

Things like...more clones troopers in the capital, openly patrolling. A curfew. Bringing in "reliable" bodyguards to guard the entire senate instead of leaving it up to "unreliable" contractors. Any authoritarian measure or emergency power he could wring from this, he would. Sure, his movements would get slightly more limited...except they'd be his guards and men. If he retired to his personal chambers or what not, he could easily instruct them to pretend he's still there as he goes off to do his skulking...and security would be so tight we'd never know about it.

Okay, I was kinda curious to see what "Currently Non-Canon" omakes have been written; specifically 1) what we would need to do to make them canon, and 2) what rewards we might receive from doing so. So, here goes.

@Dr. Snark: would it be possible to recruit Oki (Silas's "granddaughter") as Ciaran's body double instead? That is, once we recruit her, we'd get a chance to train her either as Silas's assistant in spycraft, or as Ciaran's body double?

how dull would it be if you could just snipe Palpy and call it a day?

Actually, I'd love it if we could do that. I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoy the buildup and making sure that I can stomp on my enemies way more than I enjoy climactic fights (or any fight that I don't know for certain that I can win, for that matter).

He wouldn't do such unpopular measures yet. Too early, he needs to tighten his foundation first in order to ensure he becomes emperor. All that extra security makes him unpopular, limits his movements, and makes it harder to unperson Senators he disagrees with. Sure, they're his people, but that's still more people to swear to secrecy.

I'd recommend we hire Zam instead, given she's extremely skilled and deadly by default, and strengthens our connection to Jango. And leaves Oki free to help Silas.

Seriously, it'd be hilariously anti-climatic. I honestly can't think of a bigger middle finger to Palpatine then giving him the most undignified, anti-climatic end possible.
