"Many genin died to get us this information."
See my first thought was just sending out teams of genin to harass him with questions, but given they'd all be sacrificed to Jashin I'm not sure harassment of that nature would actually work. Somebody else might be all "fine if you'll leave me alone I'll tell you" but he'd instead be thrilled at all the new volunteers. Hmm... maybe he gives out just a tiny bit of information at a time to keep them coming? Honestly at this point I'm starting to think he was given the genin as a bribe.

Imagine being the genin who recieves this as a mission order. Feels like some rather suicidal orders, kinda makes you wanna take your chances going missing-nin instead, maybe in some sort of uninhabited swamp...?

"No no this is vital information that'll contribute to the safety of the village!"
"... But his birthday? Really? How?!?"
"Ninja give and receive gifts on their birthdays, dumbass. It makes them vulnerable."

On that note, we should all start celebrating birthdays on random days of the year drawn from a lottery, for security reasons.

Two points of order.

Did we borrow from the Yakuza to help with the bank run?

And something tells me we probably should have investigated Haru's actions more before passing judgement. I know his confession seemed blatant and dismissive but being competent enough to articulate his actions doesn't mean he did it well.

It's in the bingo book

That's a hell of a comprehensive book. Anyway, we should get him something (and run it by Asuma, of course) if only to preempt another "because I was bored and your never call" event. If nothing else, there's a very real chance that it will genuinely surprise him. It'll probably have to be something involving iron II/III complexes, but perhaps some sort of mineral instead of the obvious component?

"Many genin died to get us this information."

One thing the EU made very, very clear is that Bothans are assholes. Zhan actually made a deliberate point of it while he was cleaning up two decades of mismanagement with his "Hand of Thrawn" duology before they decided to start a new cycle and casually murder an ancient character because their guiding management wanted to swap out one brother's story for another due to the prequel books coming out and management's faith in the notion that "two different characters with the same name might confuse people who read books."

Yeah, I now want to write a plan, for Velorien's next update, where we complain at Snowflake about all our problems, not at Ami. @MadScientist would have wanted me to include making Hazou aware of Snowflake's possible crush, so I'd do that too. Stop me if you will.

Well, yes, but maybe she's still less, ah, dramatic about this, and in any case she's more able to actually generate possible solutions, which is the step Kei is stuck at.

I'm aware of the Ami thing, but it hasn't been an active issue so far. Growth mindset, I suppose.

I did actually forget about Snowflake.

13. Snowflake: she doesn't have Nara or KEI responsibilities like we do, so she should have more free time. Since we already consider Snowflake to be Goketsu, why not ask her to help us with our responsibilities? She might even welcome the display of trust.

If we can't find the scarf person, that means they were either a ninja or had ninja assistance. Only a ninja could leave the estate grounds and disappear quickly enough -- a civilian shouldn't be able to get back to Leaf in time. Since GM statements make it sound like we won't find the guy by looking outside, I think it's safe to say there's ninja involvement.

I predict it was someone sent by Asuma, Ino, or Ami. I doubt the Yakuza would be able to hire a ninja with instructions to stir opportunistic social trouble off of only a date of an announcement.

Asuma might want to see how we dealt with civilians killings. While it's minor for a Hokage, we do tend to cause a lot of trouble. He also might have sent someone to attend out announcement simply because our announcements tend to be controversial and with far-reaching consequences. And it did.

Ino might have wanted to make sure we carried things out how we said, but I don't know why she's have to make it that difficult for us.

Ami could fuck with us for any reason, there's no point in thinking about it.

Do we have a Dog summon that would be willing to do emergency tracking for us?

I mean, hot springs could very well publish that information in the spirit of international mutual cooperation to help infiltrate a serial mass murderer, it may as well be a holy day for them as far as we know.
If you spent months slaughtering children to get in their good graces but then are the only one not wearing a vertebrae scarf in hidanukkah things are going to get awkward really fast.

They haven't killed each other or aren't actively plotting to kill each other so it's going pretty well by our standards.

...okay, I walked right into that one.

-but they're capable of hiring a Jounin to assassinate a chunin clan heiress on a secret mission to locations unknown on a dime, right?

We still need to have a very uncomfortable discussion with Mari.

I absolutely guarantee you that this is the exact mental state she is endeavoring to engender and cultivate in every authority figure. I have some sympathetic resonance on this front.

I see what you did there. Fortunately, vertebrae are crunchy and go well with ketchup.

Irrelevant to my point which is Fuck Hana.

Fuck everybody. What else is new?

Nevertheless, we do need to navigate a world infested with these inconvenient meatsacks. The one which refers to itself as "Hana" would be more useful in certain positions than others relative to the other meatsacks.

I have an idea regarding summons gold.
  1. have Mari locate as many potential buyers as doable whit out calling attention to ourselves
  2. wait until leaf scrip is secure enough for our purpose
  3. warnin Asuma about our plan in order for him to be prepare and avoid a second economic disaster
  4. we sell all the gold in as short a time as posible, this will destabilize Ryo economy across the world eventually but that works fine for us
  5. simultaneously we pay our dues to the non ISC clan in Ryo
  6. Use our own minted Ryo to buy food from other countries in bulk.
  7. Exchange Ryo for leaf currency
  8. give free but simple meals in our hall to all who want them
  9. provide our restaurants (and only our restaurants) whit the means to prepare dish at cheaper than current marked for those ninja or civilian that can afford food no problem but would prefer if the scarcity didn't force them to pay extra (maybe accepting only scrip as payment to help encourage people to use it)
  10. The hit to Ryo will make us comparatively Welty, enough to invest and expand our enterprises.
  11. The stability of scrip will encourage other nations to trade with leaf, improving our economy and giving Asuma a good opportunity to expand his spy network.
The problem is that this paints a huge target on both the Goketsu and leaf for one or another form of harassment but that can be mitigated via diplomatic means.

I'm pretty sure leaf currency is ryo? And we don't have any scrip, it was confiscated by the tower. Also, why destabilize Leaf's economy with this plan and only let the Hokage in on it? We could get all of Leaf in on this and destabilize and profit off of the global economy instead. We'd be strengthening Leaf's economy as a whole, weakening the economies of other countries, and it keeps the heat off of the Goketsu and spreads it around to all of Leaf instead. We're already in a cold war with Rock, and the strongest hidden village, so it's not like we weren't already a threat to the rest of the world.
