Ease Haru's inevitable bitching: Sorry, man. Do you have a preference on one of the other currently free scrolls? We'll get you that one.
  • Tone: As if you're discussing which groceries to pick up for him.
  • It's a shame too, you were seriously thinking he'd be an excellent fit for the Porcupines. But uh... yeah...
I really don't think that Haru is going to whine about Hazō getting the scroll. He expects Hazō to get the scroll, that's how clans work in his mind. The guy in charge gets the good stuff, and everyone else gets the scraps. And clanless nin don't even get the scraps.

Side note: Whatever happened to the Yasuji deal?
You don't ... know?

Uh oh.

Timeline's wonky?

@faflec is asking me about what happened with things?!

Something good happened and we're about to celebrate stuff with a party that can be trivially interrupted by someone important?!!?

Ami must be back.

This has already been edited out, actually.

@MMKII

Mental state: It was a tough choice, but between Akane getting SC and Haru not yet having proven himself, this is the best option for the clan and Leaf.

I'd much prefer that and would vote for that. Another key change is that Hazou isn't volunteering the information unless it specifically comes up whereas yours does by default. If there no drama, then there is no need to justify ourselves tbh.

And if there is then I prefer being honest with our clan. I don't want Hazou to become that type of clan head that has to lie to his subordinates just because the truth might be too uncomfortable. He is more mature and better than that, in my opinion.

E:

This might be better phrasing:

Internal thoughts: It was a tough choice, but between Akane getting SC and Haru not yet having proven himself, you believe this to be the best option for the clan and Leaf. Haru being clanless has nothing to do with it or otherwise Akane wouldn't have ever been a consideration to begin with.

My point is that we haven't, uh...finalized the deal, at least in any of the action plans.

Honestly, just say that we haven't got enough measure of the guy and the next scroll we get'll be between him and Akane.

Okeydokey.

Hows this:

[x] Action Plan: It's the Plan From Before That Needs Finishing Please Vote for This Otherwise Its Kinda Awkward To Not Haha (Taking Edit Suggestions)
Word count: 387
  • Continue the Group meeting
    • Point: establish context with Team Uplift and friends, clarify the additional long term Team goal to everyone.
    • Deal with OPSEC concerns beforehand.
    • Introduction:
      • Team Uplift's goal is to improve the living conditions of everyone in the world. we've been focused on opposing and reshaping our civilization's self-destructive systems. That remains our priority.
      • But the problem runs deeper: reality itself is fragile. Pain's plan was world-ending. Whatever his intentions were, the fact that a world-altering event on this scale can actually happen is terrifying. For you, it threw into stark relief some of the fundamental truths glimpsed by Sealing.
      • deliberate human actions aren't even necessary. Reality is keen on tearing itself apart on its own. The damage from that is often catastrophic, and could be arbitrarily large. Worse still are the things that lurk outside, and occasionally seep through these tears: horrors of unfathomable power and malice, some of which can casually snuff out our entire universe.
      • It's a terrible truth. We're meant to be cowed by it, stuck helpless with fear — the same way we're meant to be resigned to the EN's system of violence. As far as you're concerned, nothing changes: another terrible thing we'll need to eventually fix.
      • It's currently above our pay grade, it doesn't mean we can't gather information.
    • We have a large selection of leads we could pursue, but Pain is the most salient one.
      • Points of discussion:
        • Pain/Rinnegan's nature and powers.
        • The ritual's purpose.
        • "The Five, still sealed after a thousand years of sacrifice".
        • The fate of the lost bijuu.
        • The bird summon — an archaeopteryx?
      • What does Kagome think of the ritual? Sealing arrays?
      • Yuno: Perhaps there's something relevant in Isan's cultural knowledge?
  • Have words with Akane.
  • Accept the latest reasonable rendition of the Yasuji deal.
  • Post-contest:
    • Celebrate.
      • Thank everyone who made it possible.. Every clan member and resident did something to help.
    • Scroll allocation (done privately with the clan).
      • Inform everyone. [See: In-thread vote.]
      • Mental state: It was a tough choice, but between Akane getting SC and Haru not yet having proven himself, this is the best option for the clan and Leaf.
      • Ask after preferences on one of the other currently free scrolls?
      • Ok. We'll try to get you those.

FWIW, I did an edit on that which I think makes it a bit more clear but either one works for me:

I'll see if I can throw that in later, no promises. Low on the spoons, editing these things suck. :p

Man, we need to actually wrap up some of these plot threads, navigating this shit is like swimming through ramen sometimes.

Yeah, no worries. Unless I got Hazou'd measure completely wrong he already doesn't differentiate between former clanless and clan ninja anyway so that part would probably be redundant. But if you have the word count and spoons, we can be 100% sure.

This sounds like a great utility technique! I'm envisioning something on par with the Academy Two.
Come to think of it, one of our academy reforms should be to add another useful jutsu to the Academy Two. There's probably enough space in the schedule for genin to learn another basic jutsu pretty easily, and depending what we pick it could dramatically improve survival on early missions.

I'm thinking either the escape jutsu (add to stealth, letting genin escape from dangerous situations and maybe even making stealth builds somewhat viable), or the chakra sensing jutsu (be able to detect ambushes and gives every single Leaf nin a sensory jutsu).

One thing to note however, is that any jutsu we add to the Academy Two will probably leak pretty fast, as soon as some genin gets captured and interrogated. So another option is to make it a jutsu we want to leak. The Yamanaka jutsu being one of the basic academy jutsu would make every single Leaf nin that much saner, and if it leaks it would make ninja from every other village that little bit saner too. That would be a pretty big win.

Side effect of dissuading people from using their Intimidation stat so often because it works less.

We should totally do this just because it makes everyone collectively less dickish in the long term.

Not that I disagree, but I am always amazed at how easily and consistently the hivemind comes up with stuff to commit treason with.

I know I shouldn't be at this point, but I am.

Just incentivize everyone to learn the technique ASAP. Like, have the Gouketsu pay a week's worth of wages to everyone who knows the technique or something.

I worry that the 'mental state' line does not sufficiently establish that it's internal thoughts only, and that Velorien will read that line as 'so this is how we want Hazou to frame it to the rest of the clan'.

I also think that, while the 'groceries' tone is a good moment, we should also convey that we're not actually serious about it being so simple. My intuition says Hazou might wind up sounding actually cocky instead of facetiously cocky.

Yeah, that was unfortunate phrasing on my part. 'Internal thoughts' is much better than 'mental state' there.

Good point. EJ went out of his way to tell us that the Pangolin scroll was the result of a lucky roll from Mari and that they basically handed us the Porcupine scroll. I think that any summoning scroll we get hereafter is going to be the result of a lot of work, a mountain of luck, and an amount of planning that would make Kagome jealous. In-world, scrolls are like nukes and are easily platinum-level loot.

Hazou being so confident in his ability to find yet another would probably tank Haru's newborn, begrudging respect for him.

Doesn't seem that difficult, all we need to do is go traitor and kill Neji.

    • Ask after preferences on one of the other currently free scrolls?
    • Ok. We'll try to get you those. Actually, Honoka can have whichever one Haru replied with. She is more loyal and less of a complete jerkface.
      • Tone: Trivial. As if discussing grocery shopping.
      • Note: You are acutely aware it will be hilariously easy. Piece of cake!

That's a really good idea for anyone who's already graduated. We should probably do both so that we get the benefits as quickly as possible while also making sure to cement this as a jutsu that literally everyone and their mother will know even long after Hazō is gone.

We could probably come up with a "bounty" list of jutsu that, if GED graduates learn, they get a month's salary. The random things I can think of...
  • The Yamanaka Jutsu
  • Escape Jutsu
  • Chakra-Sensing Jutsu

  • MEW
  • The Motoyoshi jutsu that improves soil fertility
  • Possibly the Kurusu's jutsu that turns iron into lodestone
MEW and the fertilizer jutsu would be invaluable to have lots of people know, so that they can be more useful for Till n Fills. I feel like the lodestone jutsu would be useful for economic things somehow, but I don't have any exact ideas at the moment.

Edit:
We should put larger bounties on things that don't have obvious combat applications, like the Yamanaka jutsu and the fertilizer jutsu. Maybe a week's salary for combat applicable jutsu, and a month's worth for ones with no obvious combat use. People will naturally want to learn combat applicable stuff anyway, so they'll need a larger incentive to learn stuff that only helps them with Till n Fills or does something obscure like making them more sane.
