(sidenote: Ravines, canyons, and gullies form because of river movements through the depression. Since this canyon is described as a "major ravine" it seems likely that water would have had to flow through this area for a long time, giving me reason to believe that this ravine is a seasonally dry one instead of permanently dry)

Or an earth-element ninja making artificial borders during the previous ninja war :p

I'm not anything close to qualified and may well be telling blatant falsehoods...but I'm pretty sure it's below freezing in Leaf and therefore whatever glaciers serve as the origin point would just re-freeze in short order.

I think.

Large amounts of fast-moving water is not that fast to freeze and Akane's EM can melt glaciers pretty easy

Or an earth-element ninja making artificial borders during the previous ninja war :p

I doubt the entire Rock village's combined forces would suffice to make ravine this big and deep. Can someone count how long it is?

But it sounds like the source starts in Rain, that could be miles away from the bridge.

Even still water would take about half an hour to freeze at -10°C and even then it would only be the upper layer that is frozen. Even if part of this moving mass of water freezes on the way it will just add to the impact on the bridge's supports. Moreover, the weather is more to our advantage since frozen ground will be less prone to sucking water, so we will have more water compared to dry and above freezing weather.

E: from here
while water is flowing its potential energy is constantly being converted to heat energy that resists freezing on the molecular level and subsequent crystallization.
For flowing water to freeze, the temperature would have to be exceptionally cold.

E2:

Akane's EM is lvl20 which means she can heat the air for up to 100°C for up to 200 minutes. We build a dam using force walls, Akane heats glacier to melt, when we destroy the dam all the water flows and not freezes again (not to mention that it would be pretty hot for a winter; even taking into account loss of heat to the surroundings, I don't think it would be less than 30-50°C)

[X] Action Plan: Operation Fluid Dynamism

I like this plan a ton. It makes it look like an accident. Plus it keeps us away from the bridge so minimizes our risk of engaging with enemy Nin

[X] Action Plan: Beyond Our Pay Grade

so Beyond Our Pay Grade is an entirely reasonable plan which has my support, but sometimes I feel the need to vote for something so crazy unreasonable but achievable that it'll make us legends for pulling off; hence, I present this plan:

[X] Action Plan: Operation Fluid Dynamism
Word Count: 273
  1. Requisitions
    1. Strong Water ninjutsu user; need to generate lots of water.
      1. High-capacity storage seals can substitute.
    2. Barrels, driftwood, debris.
    3. Flash seals.
    4. Earthshaking seals or jutsu users.
    5. Some of Keiko's time to optimize this plan.
  2. Mission Goals:
    1. Dam and obstruct the river to increase the river's flow speed.
    2. Ride said fast river current through the exposed area.
    3. Hit the granite upthrust with explosives and cutting ninjutsu at speed.
    4. Ride the fast river current out of engagement range and escape.
  3. Mission Successes:
    1. Bridge and granite upthrust destruction.
    2. Pinning the blame on River ninja (river manipulation, Water ninjutsu, and valley fighting techniques)
    3. Pinning the blame on Lightning ninja (bright flashes that destroy Earth outcrops)
  4. Execution
    1. Split mission teams into River and Exfiltration Teams.
      1. River team should be selected for ability to waterwalk on extremely rough water.
    2. River Team finds the source of the canyon and redirects or unfreezes a high pressure flow of water into the canyon.
      1. If the flow is small, dam the river first to build up fluid pressure.
      2. If River Team has relevant jutsu to help, use it.
    3. Strategically place driftwood for River Team to use.
    4. River Team rides the rushing whitewater flow through the valley into the bridge and granite upthrust.
    5. Use explosives, or damaging ninjutsu to cut through the granite upthrust.
    6. Once the granite upthrust is confirmed destroyed, River Team rides the river out at full speed.
      1. Exfiltration Team will link up with River Team at the explosive signal.
    7. The combined teams will exit the valley, collapsing the valley as necessary to escape.
    8. Once at the treeline, set the treeline ablaze to deter pursuit.
    9. Leave the operation area for mission success.
You realize that the ravine is dry at the bottom, yes?

EDIT:
Implemented to change to "redirecting a river through the canyon" :V
Or an earth-element ninja making artificial borders during the previous ninja war :p
Perfect, they've saved us the trouble of damming up the river :V :V :V

You know, it would really suck if this resulted in massive flooding and loss of life from Rain to Grass to Fire.

Oh my, you're right. Asuma gave us carte blanche. It is finally time.

[х] Armageddon Initiative

Cari, bugs can't actually carry paper. Physics doesn't allow it - their wings beat onto the paper so they get dragged down as much as they get pulled up.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned this yet.

(Pssst: Paper can be folded)

Hazou would be mildly better at calibration of the drop, but Akane has more versatility.

It's arguable which to send, but mostly I want to see things go boom and set fires IC rather than just hearing about it.

Edit: Also even if we have an Aburame whose bugs can get close, dropping rocks to start an earthquake is still great cover. (Also it's fun :>)

Edit 2: I'm a little giggly about how the most !FUN! plan, might actually be the most reasonable. Or it might just be the sleep dep, but still💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥

Sleep deprivation is only a problem until you hit the island of lucidity and your brain stops trying to maintain synchronization. Just be sure to keep watch for spontaneous perceptual neglect as regions individually go offline, particularly while driving.

Also infections. Usually epidermal at first. Have some Cipro on-hand.

Just to be clear, this is the massive canyon gouged by the river originating in the Land of Rain, yes?

At the risk of being DYK'd into oblivion...Aburame Muta's bugs were able to carry an intelligence scroll a large distance in canon, despite being injured and in enemy territory.

This? This is the reason you haven't been promoted to GM yet.

We should be able to blow up a bridge without breaking OpSec on novel explosives like orbital mass drops and Kagome's implosion seals. In front of the Aburame and/or Rock+Grass. Unless this bridge is a jonin in disguise, we can limit ourselves to the weapons of regular destruction.

Get out.

:p

Mari. Infiltration & genjutsu specialist. Truth Lost In The Fog seems to be a wide-area genjutsu: despite its dangers, it might help us make this look like an accident.

We should really stop assuming this. Early-game Mari was perfectly happy to murder Keiko's teammates as long as she didn't remember it.

A stealth specialist who can help us with infiltration, exfiltration, and aerial stealth.

Reminder that Kagome has stealth on par with the awareness of an elite-jounin infiltration specialist and literally invented skywalkers.

Give me an hour to get back to my computer and I can fix this by specifying that we set a time delayed seal at the redirect point to mostly restore the natural path of the river(s). This should be able to minimize the consequences of this run.

if it's seasonally dry, then there's even less problem.

Does Hazou and the team we're taking know enough about how to redirect rivers in order to do this properly?

Run the flood plan by aburame and check the map for water sources and civilian settlements in the path of destruction.

Team Uplift: "We're here to fix the world!"
Kage: "I need you to destroy purely civilian vital infrastructure to prevent our potential adversaries from feeding their most needy for geopolitical convenience."
Team Uplift: "Is there any way we can escalate this into a region-wide civilization-destroying ecological catastrophy?"
Kage: "I don't see why not..."
Team Uplift: "Great! Where are we on those pox blankets?"

nvm it'll probably take me another hour or two.

Not all civilian settlements are gonna be put on Leaf's map. The system starts in Rain and moves through Grass, and who knows how many branches exist.
Branches don't come off of rivers; they flow into rivers*

Also our game plan pretty much boils down to 'go all in on Leaf and make it win so that we can finally end this horrid game of death and start improving the world'.

Plans which include the possibility of Hazou leaving Leaf and destroying the bridge within the update should finish some time critical things first like:
  • assign someone to bond with yuno
  • assign someone to adopt Haru
  • Talk to Asuma (he's right there) about compensation for the Oro estate
  • Ask Asuma why want Kagome (his OPSEC explosives?, his knowledge of construction?, to make Kagome happy?). better informed means can do mission better
  • hire akane's dad as secretary. We need one, pay him ludicrous money, guilt him by saying this will help the clan and by extension Akane a lot
  • Keiko sent messages to Grandmaster F, the Crows, and the Sharks. Any reply? High OPSEC!
Also our game plan pretty much boils down to 'go all in on Leaf and make it win so that we can finally end this horrid game of death and start improving the world'.
What do you mean make it win? If you mean diplomatically breaking a bridge might not help. If you mean militarily Leaf is weak right now, it will be difficult to make it the most powerful nation. And we'd need to do it insanely quickly or else all the other nations will gain up on us like Whirlpool and Akatsuki.

[x] Action Plan: Mutually Beneficial Cooperation
  • we are loyal leaf ninja and will do as ordered to help Leaf. But is antagonizing Rock really best for Leaf?
  • Was it really Rock that did the attack?
    • No one was acting like they would attack anytime soon before the attack.
    • Everyone was furthering long term goals.
      • Hiashi using the scroll as a carrot instead of immediately increase Leaf's combat strength.
      • Him making all those deals with clans to improve their long-term future instead of dealing with immediate threats.
    • If Rock did it why didn't they attack immediately?
    • What if Akatsuki attacked us?
  • Jiraiya himself told us he would like it if we could live in a world of cooperation but the lack of trust made that difficult. For the first time in a long time there is goodwill between the villages, when we went to attack Akatsuki. Don't you remember fighting with <insert rock ninja name>.
  • For the past few centuries civilization has been declining with humanity attacking each other. Do you want your descendants to eventually be killed from chakra beasts when by chance there are no ninja in a generation. Even in the near present, Leaf is especially vulnerable to the status quo of fighting and distrust due to its diminished military strength.
  • If renting land to Rock does not make us seem weak to other nations, why not do it without sabotage? We can't consume as many food/luxury items with our diminished population so we aren't even making good use of that land. It could cement Rock as a strong ally to Leaf, to defend against other nations thinking of extorting us.
  • Are we still planning to spread plague? We could lose the support of Tsunade, who once said plagues have no borders. How would she react to us deliberately spreading plagues?
  • Even if the plan succeeds and Rock retreats, they still have no land. They will take it one way or another, so we would only push our conflict with Rock to the future. If they ever discover our sabotage the war faction in Rock would completely overtake the peace faction, and any restraint they are currently showing would be removed. And we do not have the strength to defeat Rock.
    • If the plan is to completely decimate Rock with the plague so that Leaf can destroy them militarily afterwards than it is high risk. If it doesn't weaken Rock enough Leaf will be destroyed.
  • Akatsuki is still out there. Their motto was to let them bring peace or they would kill you. If Rock did attack us Akatsuki might ally with us to punish Rock. But if we antagonize Rock back than Akatuki might attack us too.
  • Could we engage in cooperative negotiations? That is the Will of Fire no? Example speech:
    • Tell the Rock nin we are grateful for their help and remember the camaraderie displayed against Akatsuki. We realize their desperate need for land and food and would be glad to help them. We don't want anyone to starve. But we are worried about displaying weaknesses to other nations. Could we rent the land to them instead at low rates? What is it they want from land actually? If luxury goods we could skip the middle man and offer trade deals. We offer goods and they offer ninja manpower. We could offer them pangolin services to reduce their chakra beasts and increase their food (tell Council about the pangolin hunting idea). We could tell them our land clearing ideas to make the cost of food virtually free. Do they have ideas for how we can mutually help each other without other nations viewing Leaf as weak?
