So you're saying there is a chance to glue Akane back together?
You joke, but this just made me wonder how dead someone has to be before they can be stored in a seal. If it's not completely dead then it might be possible to store someone with theoretically fixable problems (cardiac arrest, say) and get them to a hospital at your leisure.

Sort of a hard thing to test, though.

Edit: Ooh, clever idea. If the requirement isn't 'completely dead' then you could create a seal that would induce the required state in someone for a few seconds, then stick them in a storage seal. That would enable you to store living people, which would be super useful.

Getting subjects for it should be pretty easy, actually.

If we want to be ethical about it, we could even pay the families some cash once we grab the volunteered meat bags. We'll be like a ninja tooth fairy.
If you're a madperson, sure. A sane person would use an animal, assuming a mednin could induce cardiac arrest in one.

I'm pretty sure the person has to not have chakra to prevent BAD THINGS, but since everything living has chakra it also kills them.

If you're a madperson, sure.

Excuse me? I took a course in the Oro Uni of Bear and the first thing we got taught is to always start with human trials because it's more representitive of the real world.

Real talk: Have Noburi drain a chakra animal to 0 CP, immediately seal it into storage, unseal it and pour down chakra water into its mouth. See if that resurrects the cute, little critter.

I would suggest making choosing a place were Ami can talk without fear of someone else listening.
She can't tell us her true feelings if another Mori/Mist ninja is listening.
Let's choose a place were OPSEC is safeguarded from both fronts and let's make this clear.
Changed wording to "arrange a meeting"; I don't feel comfortable trying to guess what she wants with the little information we have about her own receptivenes
I would appreciate more detail on this. Is the meeting intended to take place this update (if Ami is available), or are you just sending an invitation for a later event? Does "social philosophy and family" include talking about Keiko?
Yes :V

More seriously, the intent is to have the meeting, but without intentionally steering the conversation; the plan has been updated to match.

So your intent is to discuss the topic of "family" with Ami without touching on the "you disowned and brutally broke the heart of our mutual sister a couple of months ago" elephant in the room?

If you vote for it, I will write it. I just want to understand what you're going for when you list that as a topic.

@huhYeahGoodPoint I think it's a really bad idea to rush the Ami meeting with a 2-3 sentence plan for it. We need something much, much better and more detailed if we're to get anything useful out of her.

A lot of the discussion on Ami has been focussed on how risky it is or what we can gain/learn from her, but it seems like we're ignoring how disrespectful this is to Keiko. We all seem to be in agreement that Keiko would not want us to be interacting in general with Ami while their relationship is so fraught, and that she definitely would not appreciate Hazou meddling in the relationship in particular.

It seems incredibly condescending for Hazou to ignore this and decide that he knows better, and that he is going to attempt to "fix" their relationship.

If it's not with the intention of fixing their relationship, there's no compelling reason for Hazou to ignore Keiko's wishes and go and talk with the one person Keiko would request he avoid. Being a good sibling is very noble, but you would never go and talk to someone's estranged father or their ex just for tips on how to improve your relationship with them, at least if the person in question doesn't want you talking with their estranged relation.

I do think it would be a really interesting conversation to read, and I'd love for Hazou to be closer with her, if only because of how cool Ami is. But this is just so inconsiderate of Keiko if we're doing this for any other reason other than fixing their relationship, and so arrogant if we really are so confident, in character, that we're going to cause more good than harm by ignoring Keiko's wishes and stepping in.

[x] N Minus Ami
[X] O Minus Ami

I think you're absolutely correct that Keiko will be unhappy about Hazou having met Ami without informing her. I do think your analogies aren't very well chosen here, though.

You describe their relationship as "estranged" and Hazou as attempting to "meddle" in it, but that normally applies to situations where both sides are somehow aggrieved and can't seem to work through their problems. That is not the case here. The relationship doesn't really even exist, because Ami unilaterally ended it. They're not nursing grudges against one another, with Hazou trying to play peacemaker. Keiko would love to have Ami back, she just doesn't think it's possible. It's not meddling because there's little to meddle in at the moment. Things can only really improve as a result of Hazou's actions.

To put it differently, I'm confident that if Keiko thought Hazou had a realistic chance of getting Ami to "forgive" her, she'd absolutely agree. I'm actually somewhat in favor of asking her, but there are convincing arguments against that as well. For example, if you look at Ami's actions objectively, the hypothesis of "she's faking it to protect Keiko" actually seems very plausible. It would be very difficult to convince Keiko of this though, and arguably cruel, as it'd just dash her hopes again if we fail.

Ultimately, I think it's fine if we take the shot. If it works, we can tell Keiko, and ask forgiveness, and if it doesn't, we hope she doesn't find out.

Despite @Roomba's previously declared horse in this race, I absolutely agree and second that this should only be a message to schedule a future meeting.

That's a clever idea. We should do it. Although maybe not with something cute, so we don't feel so bad if it dies. Maybe a chakra cabbage or something. If the experiment fails we could have it for lunch.

A good point, especially given Velorien's reactions. Let's throw out the wordcount for this update and do it properly.

Hm. Alright. I'll change it to an invitation then.

Be aware though, Oneiros' reads like it calls for the meeting immediately.

In light of the discussions above, yeah, I'm changing the plan.

Updated plan:
HOURS LATE, IT IS DONE!

[X] Action Plan: Hazou's Superlatively Stuffed Schedule
Wordcount: 297
  • General
    • Check with Jiraiya
    • No binding commitments on first meeting
  • Merchants
    • Meet with prior contacts
      • Bring gifts; 'excess' storage seals, perhaps
      • Buy wares to demonstrate in Leaf later
      • Ask what they need/want
        • imply possibility of assistance
      • Ask for other people who might appreciate a relationship
      • If receptive, offer sponsorship if approved
    • Make other contacts
  • Ami
    • For Jiraiya: Intent to test waters in casual setting with someone who is not a threat. Anything sensitive will be avoided.
      • Extra reasoning if necessary: Keiko is heartbroken about losing Ami, and partially blames Mari. Reconciliation between the two would help.
    • Send an invitation for a meeting
  • Ikeda
    • Arrange meeting.
    • Ask about life in Sand:
      • Her own.
      • Ninja's.
      • Civilians'.
    • Trade story-for-story if necessary.
      • Act: Be a bit too guarded around operational information, and overly detailed on other topics.
      • No actual OPSEC breaches, obviously.
    • Explain till'n'fills.
      • Improve economy, keep civilians happy, and are good practice for genin.
      • Would they work in Sand? Maybe mention them to higher-ups for brownie points?
      • If she seems interested, explain Uplift.
  • Watch matches. Cheer for ISC.
  • Shikamaru
    • Will have verbal spar with Keiko
      • Assistance with playing Keiko would be appreciated, as would suggestions for improvement
  • Oyabun
    • Arrange meeting.
    • Topic: Gambling
      • Half proceeds to Yakuza as before
  • [Other Foreign Nin]
    • Mist
      • Float idea of Till'n'Fills as punishment duty
    • Rock/Lightning
      • General pulse and initial contact
  • Contingencies
    • Armor
      • Insist on the Kotsuzui explanation at all times.
      • Ask Jiraiya whether to subtly draw attention to the "fuckup" or not. Act accordingly.
      • "Broke OPSEC with Sand genin" is now something Hazou "fucked up". Act accordingly.

Implemented an extra Shikamaru section, lifted Ikeda secion wholesale, refined merchant section to be more like Noumero's, refined Ami section to be more in line with other plan sections, on the fence about whether to include an Oyabun meeting, and that's about the list of the changelog!

Comments and votes appreciated :V

Ami section is now explicitly only extending an invitation.

General
  • Check with Jiraiya
Maybe say 'Check the plan with Jiraiya'; would make it clearer.
Act: Be a bit too guarded around operational information, and overly detailed on other topics.
So does this mean we act 'too guarded' around the topic of Hot Springs? Hidden Mountain? The Sunset Racer incident? This seems like a bad idea.
Shikamaru
  • Will have verbal spar with Keiko
    • Assistance with playing Keiko would be appreciated, as would suggestions for improvement
Remind me, please: why are we doing this?
[Other Foreign Nin]
  • Mist
    • Float idea of Till'n'Fills as punishment duty
  • Rock/Lightning
    • General pulse and initial contact
You're really gonna want to be more specific on which foreign-non Hazou meets, especially for Mist. I'd suggest visiting the Genin only, but I also don't know if any Rock/Cloud Genin are at the tournament.

Yes, but they are basically glorified confetti poppers - mechanically, they don't actually add Stress (since there's only so strong you can make an explosive before it stops being melee range) and if they did people would get significant bonuses to their Athetics rolls to avoid the effects (since the AOE is small enough that almost any movement gets you clear)

That's why we need to make a small adhesive explosive. It's hard to run away when the bomb is stuck to you.

I'm pretty sure Hazou would be able to plant bombs on someone, though it might be a DECEIT vs ALERTNESS roll or something that we would likely not win.

They attach these seals to stuff somehow, so I imagine they have some form of adhesive.

Done.

Edited to read:
  • Act: Be a bit too guarded around abilities, and overly detailed on other (safe) topics.
  • No actual OPSEC breaches, obviously.
Because I thought we wanted to interact with a resident supergenius and we also want to begin preparing for our prematch banter with Keiko. Winning fairly isn't going to be easy.

Clarified to be Genin/Nobles, as per your suggestion.

But I don't think trying to tie the two together is a good idea. FMPOV it feels a lot like we're trying to get Shikamaru to work against his betrothed/friend for us...but we don't give any justification for doing so. Why should he help us?

We shouldn't need help for the banter, this should be done by the hivemind and run through Noburi and/or Jiraiya if possible. If you want to interact with Shikamaru, just talk to him about Mist culture over lunch or something.

Um, Hiashi is technically a Konoha noble, but I presume a Mist/Rock/Cloud-nin of his skill level is not someone we intend to interact with. Just say Genin/civilians, since any Rock/Cloud civilian here in Mist would be pretty important, and we already have lots of Mist contacts from other endeavors.

Yesssss! Please can we do this? I will vote for any plan that has research of this nature in it (Please tag and/or remind me if/when you do though. I try to keep up with the thread, but run wayyy behind on occasion).

Storage seals maintain the things inside them in temporal stasis, so there's no worry about the blood going bad over time.

AAAA AA AAAAA • r/AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

But there's also some source of "stress" (that, afaik, is not clearly defined (absurdly high Sealing TN requirement to fix, such that even Jiraiya can't do it?)) upon sealing/unsealing, causing people to die if they go in a storage seal. I would expect similar effects to happen to blood if stored.

If you expect this path to have any chance of working, then ask Lady Aunt Sunny about it immediately after we find out she pasted Akane.

I'll vote with you, too, for the lulz.
