On one hand, I want to get to the tournament, because it'll be super cool.

On the other hand, we have one month of time to
  • Hang out with Hana, in story, with all the bonding and character development that would entail
  • Interact with the senior trainer from Leaf (more exposure to Leaf characters, their impression of us, etc)
  • Accomplish side goals, like Socials with Akane, Ino, Shikamaru, other STR
  • Hang out with Kagome / Mari again, without missions or the imminent threat of death or banishment
  • See Mari run circles around the Hyuuga in person, especially with the new material
I suggest a compromise: Make plans for 1-week intervals. That way, we get to accomplish a variety of things, but we don't get stuck for more than a couple of weeks in training/no mission mode -- and if anything particularly interesting happens because of this situation, well, we can extend the number of updates (but that would only be to the good, because interesting)
I too express my support for this allocation of time, with a note that should we vote to leave for Leaf immediately we should just have the update be what we did in Mist and the short trip back to Leaf.

@eaglejarl @OliWhail @Velorien

@Adept_Woodwright suggests breaking up training plans in one week intervals.

I find this a healthy mix between timeskip + play it out that would both justify healthy XP gain and allow other secondary things (social goals with people, seal gain, to name a few) people may desire, while speeding us along towards the tourny.

Just my two cents
I'm not sure that we would vote anything other than Alertness on all of those training plans?

And besides, I'm perfectly willing to leave the QMs to optimize our training -- it could well be the case that Hazou is incapable of combat over the duration of the tournament due to his (exceedingly low) chakra.

@Dictator4Hire @Kiba
Who said anything about actually finding the scroll? The most time consuming thing I'm advocating for is Keiko spending some time on the 7th path getting to squee at the Great Library (and maybe find something out about a summon clan we can use later)

I'd want the Great Library thing to happen regardless - that's been on the backburner for a long time, and shouldn't take all that much time just to go see.

List of plot threads to pursue:
  • Read Akatsuki's book
  • Reverse summon rescue plan
  • Getting to know Uncle Oro-chan with all that involves
  • Talking to Hana
  • Talking to Shin
Any others?

I think we need to get a Nara printer to the great library, in exchange for a copy of every one of their books. If the cost is anything less than a war, it should be worth it long term.

An extremely important question to ask Jiraiya/Hana/Mari since they have either observed or participated in the tournament stage themselves (Mist ones included):

Are there any rules against Nobby topping us up in between rounds? How do the other Wakahisa usually handle tournaments?

We might be able to sacrifice chakra capacity for alertness this way.

I feel like you all aren't taking the urgency of training in-universe as strongly as you should.

Yes from a purely game mechanical perspective you spend your xp, you get your skills, because there's not "training time" in the rules... but that's not actually how it works in the game reality. Everybody in the tournament is going to go home and bust ass training as hard as possible in order to eke every advantage they can over their opponents. If they're really clever, they'll develop strategies for specific opponents known to be in the Tournament.

This really shouldn't be a vacation where Hazou does side projects. (And don't worry about talking to Hana; that's built in as a default.)

And rules about the tournament in general. Just ask Mari-sensei, she's knowledgable and far less busy than Jiraiya. Hana...if we're going to Leaf ASAP we could ask her once we get back home.

That reminds me, though. We need to keep Hana from ripping Mari a new one.
Are these long term or things we wanna get started?
Yes.

Introducing novel creations to the Summoning Realm? We should probably think about this, based on what happened last time :p
It might be pretty bad. The Nara had the opportunity to do this for years... Although possibly, they don't actually know about the great library. The only time we have heard of it was one mention from Pandaa, complaining that they didn't have access to it. It might not come up a lot in interpath relations.

Bwahahaha. Back to leaf! Our merchant council license should have been completed by now.

Let the storage seal economic revolution commence! A storage seal for every leaf nin!

P.S.
Do we have any good way to turn money into combat effectiveness? Chakra steel, special armor, etc?

@Briefvoice brings forth a good point.

I dont think we should spend a week in Mist if it sacrifices XP gain and training time.

However, we cannot physically train for 12 hours a day. We will need breaks.

If we do the week by week thing, we can put a swathe of social activities in to do on breaks and whatnot in the evening or something that week.

For those of you who want social activities, speaking up in support of this may be to your benefit.

How many hours do you expect to be training? 8 hours? 12 hours? 14 hours?

We should alternate between combat-related training (Alertness, Athletics, combat styles...) and non-combat related training (Sealing research, medical poison research, Summoning contracts...). This way we have situations where we train our body and rest our mind, and others where we do the opposite.

For all the people who want to social in Mist, how about we prevail on Jiraiya to make sure there are a couple of days post-Finals to wrap up the trade agreement and alliance terms? Then we can have time doing everything we want when we don't have the looming international combat tournament that is encouraging us to Train.

On the other hand, haven't we ensured that the entirety of the Finals fights are against relative scrubs?

I don't think its a matter of hours put in, so much as planning effort put in by the thread. Maybe effort learning what Hazou's learning style is? Clever tricks? Train alertness within the swamp of death?

That might actually be a good idea. Noburi plays goalie while Hazou and Keiko try to spot the monsters before they get too close.

OH!

Before I forget, we need to adopt Ami's training regime of setting ourselves ridiculous challenges. The first time I suggested that this was a good idea, @Velorien insightful'd me, so who knows, we might get bonus XP or something.

I have a model schedule(s) in mind that may suffice for a week by week thing.

Its a mix of dedicated training and "Always be training." PTJ while doing daily things all day in an Ami fashion for example

Personally would like to spend some time in mist politicking. However willing to negotiate on that to guarantee sometime in leaf working on other projects
