@Daniel14541 Yeah I should have clarified we don't want to re-negotiate RN...though maybe if we found a different chocolate seller it could be a possibility. We wouldn't need to change Henge if we did that since it would just seem like we're searching for the best price. I dunno, chocolate doesn't seem like one of those goods that has high competition due to the high price in getting it to begin with.

There are a lot of negotiating tactics we could use to obfuscate that we trying to acquire chocolate on the cheap but I'm not sure our diplomacy is high enough to recognize and use them...

@Daniel14541 As long as we, the players, write them down our characters should be able to use them. It's a matter of us writing them down

don't hold back on us now : )

@Radvic
We should probably have Mori keep watch, bringing us down to two gamblers. Conversely, I think we could get away with more than 200 ryo/hour, this is a city and we can use disposable henges. If 40 ryo buys you a very cheap meal, I think we could get away with winning... 500 ryo/hour. We should start lowish and slowly work our way up, stopping when people start getting somewhat suspicious.

We could also vary games as we go between henges to further reduce our footprint. Darts was mentioned as a game that exists in this world, we could alternate between the two.

We can only henge every 6 hours before was start digging into our reserves.

@faflec
On buying Chocolate, we can check for other vendors and also each caravan in town.

  • Do not buy the chocolate

Based on his contact with Kagome, Hazou is confident that that would be a Bad Plan.

  • Going to every Chocolate store and checking out the price would be something a normal person did for something that expensive
  • Even if it takes a day, still probably worth the ROI
  • The QMs might have already factored this into the roll @eaglejarl ?

There's only two of them and yes, I did.

@eaglejarl Did we get a good enough look at those seals on the roof and tables of the casino to replicate them?

Yes.

If not, how much time do we think we would need to spend staring at them to learn them?

A few seconds in good light when you can actually focus. Not in combat.

Can we get a list of all the seals that we can copy added to the Character Sheet?

Done.

Am I misunderstanding something, or can we just easily make all the money we need by playing small craps games? When Hazou says that the games are low stakes (50 ryo a bet). I'd expect that to mean an individual could come out net +100 ryo without seeming suspicious, maybe even 200. If three people do this, then we are net +300 or 600 ryo from a single visit to a gambling area. If we visit just the 12 places Hazou found once each day, that's net +3,600-7,200 ryo per day. If we spend an additional, say, 5 hours looking, we could potentially expand that to 30 rings, which may add additional levels of safety. If we each win about 100 ryo per visit to a place, and spend about a half hour a visit (or average +200 ryo per hour visit), that nets us +600 ryo/hour, for however long we want to work. If we assume we have 4 days, and can work 12 hours a day, that equals +7,200 ryo/day = +28,800 ryo over four days.

There's a limit to how much money is available in the low-stakes games. Probably not more than 300-500 per person, and anywhere from 3 to 8 people in the game. With such small amounts, people will tend to notice the outcomes pretty closely.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @AugSphere @Jackercracks I asked the question in the Q&A thread (IC Knowledge) but wanted to repost here:

All questions are answered as of now, with the exception of the exact prices.

From how I read the update, it seems like there's gambling happening outside the casinos, likely in bars and stuff.

Correct.

This means it won't be highly regulated, but is just casual games happening at bars or something.

Correct.

Oh, I'd assumed the casinos were approximately the same quality, and expected ninjas in most of them. My mistake.

The first two are good quality, the third was high-end and snooty.

They've said we could increase social skills and stealth. I'm guessing that if the plan we decide on involves henging 12 times a day, they could be convinced to count that as training for henge to increase our henge.

Yes.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @AugSphere @Jackercracks I asked the question in the Q&A thread (IC Knowledge) but wanted to repost here:
Well I can't actually read white text because of my background settings, but all the same:

1000 sheets of seal-quality paper: 10,000
1gal chakra ink: 2,000
1gal honey: 1,000
10lb good tea: 4,000
Ingredients for one loaf fresh-baked bread with raisins: 30
1 copper kettle: 150

So that's...17,180 ryo, plus 10,000-28,000 ryo for chocolate, for a total of 27,180-45,180 ryo. Jesus, man, the failed paper die roll.

@eaglejarl Is it possible for us to re-roll the paper die roll with a different paper mill or was that also factored in to the die roll?

Also did we ask if other towns/cities nearby had chocolate? If there's a town closer to O'Uzu Island (along coast of Iron?) then shipping costs would be much cheaper and we'd thus get a better deal.

Assuming we go for the middle of the range on the chocolate, we're looking at about thirty thousand ryo for everything together.
Also, 219:235 ain't so bad a roll. Haggling is more "sliding scale of good to bad deal" than "You failed, terrible deals for you."

Fancy sealing paper's just expensive. You even get a bulk discount for buying such a huge amount (which is why it's only 10,000).

That was factored in; this is the best price Nobby's going to get. As to finding it elsewhere -- there's probably a few other places in Iron that chocolate would be shipped to, but not many. They'll generally be hill daimyo (aka small freeholding lords, no actual hill required). There will also be some shipping going out of the country.

Before you ask: it's a valuable product, but there's not enough volume for it to be worth conquering the country.

11.5 ryo/sheet, eh?

Can we ask if we can keep the 10 ryo/sheet if we buy with them in future, even if it's not in bulk? I dunno how much ryo converts into the real world but I'd imagine in the medieval Naruto-verse paper wouldn't exactly be needed so this is a good deal for them. Then again ninjas...

10 ryo to the USD.

There are cheaper versions of paper available, but seal-quality paper is stupidly expensive because it has to be perfect -- unblemished, even texture, uniform color, not too absorbent so the ink doesn't bleed, absorbent enough that it doesn't sluice off.

No, they're not going to give you that discount for non-bulk buys.

@eaglejarl Does that account for the differences in quality of life (e.g., we don't have to worry about chakra monsters eating our shipments, we have stupidly high technological advancements compared to them...)?

Well we try to take that stuff into account, thus the expensive paper and chocolate. As for how successful we are? Couldn't tell you without talking to a historian/economics dude.

If Hazou is going to be using henge lots the next few days, would it be worth levelling chakra control to 2 or 3 to reduce the chakra usage so he's not excessively drained by the end of each day?

Help me find reasons the above doesn't just solve our money problems.

You are assuming that it's safe to go and clean out the same place 4 days in a row. I think that's pushing it, even if there's no dedicated ninja looking over each game people will get suspicious and suspicion leads to complications. Ideally we would go to each place once during our whole stay and use a different henge each time. Also henges cost 10 chakra a pop and we don't have infinite chakra.

That's not to say we wouldn't be making a good amount of money with just 12 visits.

12 visits * 400 ryo * 3 people = 14400 total for the week

That's enough money for the chocolate. We would still have to find work to get the rest of the stuff.

@eaglejarl, @Velorien, @AugSphere and @Jackercracks I was trying to start working out chakra calculations but I noticed that the character sheets are wonky when it comes to total chakra counts and the Rules Document doesn't state how exactly Capacity translates to total chakra. I wrote the following assuming that for Hazou and Keiko Total Chakra = Capacity * 10 and for Noburi it's Total Chakra = 30 * Control + 1. Is this correct?

About Chakra regeneration: Would bodyguard work count as strenuous? How about gambling? Am I correct to assume that the maximum regeneration Hazou can have in 24 hour period, with no strenuous activity, is 80 chakra (8 hours sleep = 40 chakra and 16 hours of doing random stuff = 40 chakra)?

Chakra costs are problematic. Ideally we want to have a new henge for each betting place but we will also need to spend 1 henge every morning to go to work and 1 henge after gambling to get back to our inn. If something weird happens at work (we need to punch someone while bodyguarding) we will need to recast henge.

Since Noburi can redistribute our chakra efficiently, we can work our plans around the total amount of chakra the party has.

Party total chakra: 191(Hazou: 40, Keiko: 30, Noburi: 121)

Henge cost: 10 chakra

This means that the absolute maximum amount of henges the party can pull off in a day is 18 without anyone passing out. Since we probably want to have at least some useful chakra left the sensible limit is 16. Only Hazou and Keiko can regenerate chakra so the total regeneration for the party is 14 henges per day, assuming that work and gambling are not counted as strenuous activity.

If we only have 4 days left in which to gamble we are in trouble. We can spend the least amount of henges by having only 2 people gamble in 18 different gambling places. This would mean 15 henges for the days we would go to 5 places and 13 henges for the days we would go to 4 places. If something happens and we need a new henge OR we don't get the full chakra regeneration for the day we are screwed and have to start using the same henge for multiple gambling spots. 5 days is a bit more forgiving though.

Here are 2 rough chakra budgets based on some assumptions. They are not meant to be used as is, rather they highlight our problems with the heavy use of henge and our current chakra regeneration. Key figure here is the yellow low point in our chakra reserves. It directly affects our combat potential and escape proficiency in case something goes wrong.

First one in the case we have 4 days to work with. This is very optimistic and basically relies on the hope that everything goes super well.
8 hours of rest = 70 chakra
16 hours of non-strenuous work = 70 chakra
Daily total chakra regen for the party = 140 chakra

Starting chakra: 191

Day 1:
Chakra cost: 30 morning + gamble 100 + return 20 = 150
Chakra lowpoint: 41
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 181

Gambling profits: 2 people * 5 places * average profit 400 = 4000 ryo

Day 2:
Chakra cost: 30 morning + gamble 80 + return 20 = 130
Chakra lowpoint: 51
Chakra regen: 140
Total chakra: 191

Gambling profits: 2 people * 4 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 7200 ryo

Day 3:
Chakra cost: 30 morning + gamble 100 + return 20 = 150
Chakra lowpoint: 41
Chakra regen: 140
Total chakra: 181

Gambling profits: 2 people * 5 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 11200 ryo

Day 4:
Chakra costs: 30 morning + gamble 80 + return 20 = 130
Chakra lowpoint: 21
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 161

Gambling profits: 2 people * 4 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 14400 ryo

Second one is for 5 days. This seems more doable but again if we can't get enough regen or need extra henges we will be in trouble.

8 hours of rest = 70 chakra
16 hours of non-strenuous work = 70 chakra
Daily total chakra regen for the party = 140

Starting chakra: 191

Day 1:
Chakra costs: 30 morning + 10 gambling + 20 return = 150
Chakra lowpoint: 41
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 181

Gambling profits: 2 people * 5 places * average profit 400 = 4000 ryo

Day 2:
Chakra costs: 30 morning + 80 gambling + 20 return = 130
Chakra lowpoint: 51
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 191

Gambling profits: 2 people * 4 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 7200 ryo

Day 3:
Chakra costs: 30 morning + 60 gambling + 20 return = 110
Chakra lowpoint: 81
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 191

Gambling profits: 2 people * 3 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 9600 ryo

Day 4:
Chakra costs: 30 morning + 60 gambling + 20 return = 110
Chakra lowpoint: 81
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 191

Gambling profits: 2 people * 3 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 12 000 ryo

Day 5:
Chakra costs: 30 morning + 60 gambling + 20 return = 110
Chakra lowpoint: 81
Chakra regen: 140
Total Chakra: 191

Gambling profits: 2 people * 3 places * average profit 400 + previous profits = 14 400 ryo

Of course all of that might be moot if Inoue shows up to be leeched.

Yes, this is correct.

Also, note that there is a limited amount of bodyguard work available. Think of it like in reality -- how many people need to be escorted around by a large thug with sunglasses and a gun? There's a little more here in Yuni because it's a more wild and wooly town than anything in a real-world developed nation, but not an indefinite amount. Mori found it by going to the staging ground that caravans leave from and talking to some of the caravan guards there, many of whom have done bodyguard work at some point.

The player knowledge doc is updated. There are still a couple of unanswered questions. Everything that has been asked in thread should now be in that document. If you have a question that isn't there ADD IT. Just put it in red so we see it.
