@OliWhail if you have the time from general panicking (in real life this time!) you should consider adding these suggestions from me to the plan. It currently has no plan for combat and doesn't even make a token effort to get Nobby away from Arikada.
[X] Lore Update
Note that @Velorien might ignore Lore Update, so making edits to the plan might be a good idea anyways.
So I took the combat portion from the last update and made some edits to it. Namely that Nobby should stay out of the fight until we have Arikada boxed, and that we deploy ranged and melee explosives to get rid of Arikada's tentacles. There's a chance that this will lead to her head going squish, but we are starting to get low on chakra and active combatants, so I would rather risk that than dead teammates.
- Seagull Yellow, Tentacles Black; meaning go lethal with explosives to get rid of the tentacles and then go back to capture
- Nobby stays out of the fight until Arikada is pinned with MEW and Water Clones
- Mostly non-lethal approach
- Destroy tentacles with ranged explosives
- Tag her with Syrup Trap from Mari
- Trap her with MEW
- To catch her: squish her between two thick diagonally raising walls
- Use limit movement by surrounding her with walls if it seems that Syrup Trappers can't get close enough, otherwise save chakra for catching her
- Destroy rest of the tentacles with melee explosives
- Immobilize with Water Clones punching and pinning
- Send the clones in waves so they don't all get blown up at the same time
- Box Arikada tightly with Mew
- Leave room for Water Whip or mist to enter
- Drain her with WW or mist (if we can cobble together a misterator from the condense water cantrip/canteens/waterskins and a macerator once she's thoroughly restrained)
- Have Nobby drain Kagome or Akane to get enough chakra for Water Whip and Substitution
- Position Nobby behind a thick wall within range
- Prepare a Water Clone stooge to substitute with Noburi if something goes wrong
- Summon a water clone and have Akane cover its line of sight to Nobby with her hands
- Give the clone instructions to Substitute with Noburi immediately when it sees him
- If something goes wrong with the draining, Akane removes her hands blocking the clones view
- Noburi should sub with the clone if anything goes or feels wrong on his end. If we have the chakra, have him sub with a totally different clone that's out of Arikada's LOS and away from the party members.
- If draining doesn't seem doable in short notice, deploy the wasp paralytic
- Eliminate incoming combatants (whether new ninja or clones) with extreme prejudice (depending on our hight Decep people to tell which targets are clones)
- Coordinate with abbreviations of what we are about to do and what we would like to see Nobby do, get more detailed once Arikada is better boxed in
- Supplementary lethal options if the methods in the preferred approach don't seem doable
- Have Keiko tag Arikada with a kunai
- Standard kunai, see if it has any effect
- Kunai + ninja wire to leash her
- Kunai + ninja wire + lightning jutsu to disable
- Macerator with the wasp paralytic if other options don't seem to work
- Defensive options
- Wind Wall to block ranged attacks
- MEW to block explosions
- PMYF deployment for Subsitution
- Melee explosives if she tries to get too close, preferably such that she'll tacmov out of the way rather than get squished.
- Melee explosives to blast wire-whip kunai out off track
Things that should trigger the fight for us:
I was thinking about the logistics of this, and I don't see how this is doable while Arikada is around. Mari needs to keep her eye on Arikada at all times and the others need to be around if a fight starts.
- Arikada doesn't want to go straight to Konoha but wants to rest for the night or something
- She does anything hostile or suspicious
We could maybe send Nobby + someone else (Akane or Kagome) to clean up the field while we talk details with Arikada, but personal clean up will have to wait until we get rid of Arikada. It might be okay for the other party members to do it one at a time, but Mari not being ready for combat even for a moment is too big of a drop in our perceived combat potential.
If the zombies had smallpox, then tough shit.
On travel formation:
I have no idea when Hazou is supposed to have time to do any talking with Arikada. But we should leave Nobby out of that.
- Diamond formation:
- Arikada alone at front
- Kagome + Keiko on the left and behind Arikada
- Hazou + Mari on the right and behind Arikada
- Noburi carried (or escorted) by Akane lagging behind
I'd rather keep Kagome sharp while Arikada is around. This is exactly the sort of situation where we need his cutthroat paranoia.
What Nobby needs is chakra beast pets. Or maybe put goldfish inside the barrel?
I should note that we don't have the leeway to acquire anything like that now.
@Jello_Raptor So I thought about this a bit more, and I think the first move we need to make is to get Nobby away from Arikada and pump some chakra into him. Currently Nobby is just one big weak point for Arikada to home in on and if things turn fighty now he will just auto die (unless someone does a sacrificial swap). So I would go with something like this:
I would also add following under Environmental Cleanup:
- Get Arikada away from Nobby
- Tell Arikada and Mari: "We have a long way to go so we better start up on the cleanup now. We should go and make sure that nothing important or traceable gets left behind."
- Tell Akane to stay behind and help Nobby with his barrel; they should follow us once they are ready for travel
- Go and take care of environmental cleanup with Arikada and rest of the party
I would also add the following contingency:
- Use explosives to clear the traces left behind by combat (like Panchipaama's tracks)
- Pick up all of the sealing tags we used
We should work under the assumption that she will either start a fight or try to escape if we drop our guard more than that.
- Make sure there is always at least 3 combat capable party members + Mari keeping an eye on Arikada at all times
