@OliWhail if you have the time from general panicking (in real life this time!) you should consider adding these suggestions from me to the plan. It currently has no plan for combat and doesn't even make a token effort to get Nobby away from Arikada.
So I took the combat portion from the last update and made some edits to it. Namely that Nobby should stay out of the fight until we have Arikada boxed, and that we deploy ranged and melee explosives to get rid of Arikada's tentacles. There's a chance that this will lead to her head going squish, but we are starting to get low on chakra and active combatants, so I would rather risk that than dead teammates.

  • Seagull Yellow, Tentacles Black; meaning go lethal with explosives to get rid of the tentacles and then go back to capture
  • Nobby stays out of the fight until Arikada is pinned with MEW and Water Clones
  • Mostly non-lethal approach
    1. Destroy tentacles with ranged explosives
    2. Tag her with Syrup Trap from Mari
    3. Trap her with MEW
      • To catch her: squish her between two thick diagonally raising walls
      • Use limit movement by surrounding her with walls if it seems that Syrup Trappers can't get close enough, otherwise save chakra for catching her
    4. Destroy rest of the tentacles with melee explosives
    5. Immobilize with Water Clones punching and pinning
      • Send the clones in waves so they don't all get blown up at the same time
    6. Box Arikada tightly with Mew
      • Leave room for Water Whip or mist to enter
    7. Drain her with WW or mist (if we can cobble together a misterator from the condense water cantrip/canteens/waterskins and a macerator once she's thoroughly restrained)
      • Have Nobby drain Kagome or Akane to get enough chakra for Water Whip and Substitution
      • Position Nobby behind a thick wall within range
      • Prepare a Water Clone stooge to substitute with Noburi if something goes wrong
        • Summon a water clone and have Akane cover its line of sight to Nobby with her hands
        • Give the clone instructions to Substitute with Noburi immediately when it sees him
        • If something goes wrong with the draining, Akane removes her hands blocking the clones view
        • Noburi should sub with the clone if anything goes or feels wrong on his end. If we have the chakra, have him sub with a totally different clone that's out of Arikada's LOS and away from the party members.
    8. If draining doesn't seem doable in short notice, deploy the wasp paralytic
    9. Eliminate incoming combatants (whether new ninja or clones) with extreme prejudice (depending on our hight Decep people to tell which targets are clones)
    10. Coordinate with abbreviations of what we are about to do and what we would like to see Nobby do, get more detailed once Arikada is better boxed in
  • Supplementary lethal options if the methods in the preferred approach don't seem doable
    • Have Keiko tag Arikada with a kunai
      1. Standard kunai, see if it has any effect
      2. Kunai + ninja wire to leash her
      3. Kunai + ninja wire + lightning jutsu to disable
      4. Macerator with the wasp paralytic if other options don't seem to work
  • Defensive options
    • Wind Wall to block ranged attacks
    • MEW to block explosions
    • PMYF deployment for Subsitution
    • Melee explosives if she tries to get too close, preferably such that she'll tacmov out of the way rather than get squished.
    • Melee explosives to blast wire-whip kunai out off track

Things that should trigger the fight for us:
  • Arikada doesn't want to go straight to Konoha but wants to rest for the night or something
  • She does anything hostile or suspicious
I was thinking about the logistics of this, and I don't see how this is doable while Arikada is around. Mari needs to keep her eye on Arikada at all times and the others need to be around if a fight starts.

We could maybe send Nobby + someone else (Akane or Kagome) to clean up the field while we talk details with Arikada, but personal clean up will have to wait until we get rid of Arikada. It might be okay for the other party members to do it one at a time, but Mari not being ready for combat even for a moment is too big of a drop in our perceived combat potential.

If the zombies had smallpox, then tough shit.

On travel formation:
  • Diamond formation:
    • Arikada alone at front
    • Kagome + Keiko on the left and behind Arikada
    • Hazou + Mari on the right and behind Arikada
    • Noburi carried (or escorted) by Akane lagging behind
I have no idea when Hazou is supposed to have time to do any talking with Arikada. But we should leave Nobby out of that.

I'd rather keep Kagome sharp while Arikada is around. This is exactly the sort of situation where we need his cutthroat paranoia.

What Nobby needs is chakra beast pets. Or maybe put goldfish inside the barrel?

I should note that we don't have the leeway to acquire anything like that now.

@Jello_Raptor So I thought about this a bit more, and I think the first move we need to make is to get Nobby away from Arikada and pump some chakra into him. Currently Nobby is just one big weak point for Arikada to home in on and if things turn fighty now he will just auto die (unless someone does a sacrificial swap). So I would go with something like this:
  • Get Arikada away from Nobby
    • Tell Arikada and Mari: "We have a long way to go so we better start up on the cleanup now. We should go and make sure that nothing important or traceable gets left behind."
    • Tell Akane to stay behind and help Nobby with his barrel; they should follow us once they are ready for travel
    • Go and take care of environmental cleanup with Arikada and rest of the party
I would also add following under Environmental Cleanup:
  • Use explosives to clear the traces left behind by combat (like Panchipaama's tracks)
  • Pick up all of the sealing tags we used
I would also add the following contingency:
  • Make sure there is always at least 3 combat capable party members + Mari keeping an eye on Arikada at all times
We should work under the assumption that she will either start a fight or try to escape if we drop our guard more than that.

[X] Lore Update

Note that @Velorien might ignore Lore Update, so making edits to the plan might be a good idea anyways.

Speaking as a newly minted Californian, I think I might be able to get behind that. Though I'd like to pull in Oregon and Washington.
Please do include WA, then I can come home to CA but still hang out with my Seattle friends

It currently has no plan for combat and doesn't even make a token effort to get Nobby away from Arikada.
It has a token "do what we planned last time" and has Nobby traveling at the far back, but I'll take a look at this and see how much of it I can make fit

@Twofold done

[X] Action Plan: Tomato Nipples
Anything in green should probably be on-screen
Goals:
  1. *doot doot doot doot*Staying Alive
  2. Inform Jiraiya before we meet him, so that he can prepare to keep up the ruse with Arikada.
  3. Keep Arikada thinking about how awesome she is, not what might actually be going on.
  4. Get Arikada to Jiraiya ASAP.
  5. Try to get info about Arikada's sealing.
Details:
    1. Dispel
    2. Clean Up
      1. Environmental Cleanup:
        1. Burn the wrecked bodies and remains of Arikada's limbs (unless she indicates this is unsafe)
        2. Grab thrown misterators after personal cleanup
        3. Use explosives to obfuscate the traces left behind by combat (like Panchipaama's tracks)
      2. Personal Cleanup in Order:
        1. Discard/burn used equipment
        2. Bathe under henge
        3. Unhenge
        4. Discard/burn used equipment,
        5. Bathe self without henge
  1. Tell Arikada what's up re: heading to leaf.
    1. "We're going to head into Fire, and use a code that will tell them to tie us up and present us to Jiraiya or the Hokage posthaste."
    2. "All of us, you included, will submit to this search and cooperate peacefully."
    3. "If you have anything you don't want them to see, I suggest burning or disposing of it. We'll give you a chance to do so pretty soon."
    4. "We plan to drop some of our stuff off in the Summon Realm. We could keep a cache of yours there, but it would have to be inspected by us first for safety. We will return it to you after your work with Jiraiya is done, or during it with his approval."
    1. Let her burn it/dispose of it with Hazou + others watching.
    2. If she has stuff for us to store, have her go through each element in Hazou + others sight. Enough to make sure she's not sticking a time bomb in there.
      1. No matter what anyone thinks, treat any stuff she gives us as if it's a time bomb wrapped in nitroglycerin.
    1. To Jiraya as proof of good faith in case things go very wrong on the way.
    2. Has details on the ruse we used to get Ari to come with us, as well as the basic mission report.
    3. Keiko writes it while in the summon realm where Ari can't see.
      1. She is to be as truthful as possible, including things that aren't part of the report Hazou and Inoue write.
    4. We'll hand this to Jiraiya in person, and it'll serve as evidence of good faith, despite the omissions in Hazou and Inoue's reports.
    1. For Jiraiya, in character as if we meant to recruit her from the get go.
    2. Two copies.
      1. One to keep on our person and hand to Jiraiya ourselves.
      2. One to be sent on ahead with a runner or some other method.
    3. Make sure Hazou doesn't write the reports identically, so that it's a bit harder to deduce how Iron Nerve works.
      1. There should be a balance between "use IN to save time" and "don't look like you're using IN" that Hazou can reach.
    4. In an unencrypted header, include 'success' and a hint for the encryption key, e.g. 'first word you said to us', 'nations not to take over' with all additional detail and notes being encrypted.
      1. Basic message: "Target agreed to employment on terms of one week on your project at 300k + 500k on success. Team looks forward to discussing specifics of payment for services rendered."
    5. Hazou and Inoue discuss what should be included in the message outside of "Sensory Chunin" hearing range from Arikada but within "Bio-Sealmistress" hearing range.
      1. I figure Inoue will pick up on what we're up to and play along.
      2. We're trying to look sloppy and like we're underestimating her, not like we're trying to lull her into a false sense of security.
        1. Mind, we are trying to lull her into a false sense of security. Just not look like it.
      3. Vocally decide not to include the Edo Tensei usage, since that's probably something Arikada wouldn't mind keeping secret.
        1. "Oh? Why not?" "Well, I'm hoping I can learn a few tricks from her once all this is done, and it seems like the sort of thing Leaf doesn't really need to know."
        2. Feel free to change the specifics here, the point is to show that we're contemplating a longer term relationship. We want to make her think subverting our loyalty might be an out. Edo Tensei might not be the best gimme.
      4. Try to sound like we're balancing getting enough info across that Jiraiya won't keep us waiting forever, or be generally pissed, and keeping enough information hidden that Arikada will be willing to work with us later.
    6. Don't worry too much about Arikada spying on us, but don't try to shove it in her face.
    1. Keiko passes on message of gratitude to Panchipaama ("The target gave up as soon as we threatened to call you back"), with a promise to come in person as soon as the mission has been completed in full.
    2. Prepare to hide our secret stuff in the summon realm, and do so before we are in contact with a Leaf patrol
      1. Strongly urge that a sealmaster be present at any investigation the pangolins do of our seals.
        1. Add that our sealers would love to collaborate with theirs. (Same for equipment manufacturers, any other specialist that they have examine our things.)
      2. Ask that they give Pandaa oversight over these examinations if they do occur, to prevent damage.
      3. Generally encourage the pangolin to have a peek at our stuff, as long as they're careful and cognizant of the fact that we might need it all with a moment's notice.
        1. Bring experts and examiners in rather than send our items out
        2. Don't split our items up enough that you couldn't have them all ready to go in 10-15 mins.
        3. Don't waste the food, Kagome put a lot of effort into making it and we want to eat it. We can make more for you later.
        4. That sort of thing ...
      4. Point out explosives and other dangerous items.
    3. If Arikada wants to keep stuff in the summon realms give that to the pangolins as well, with instructions that it's likely volatile bullshit from a possible enemy that cannot be inspected further without good reason.
      1. Pangolins should treat this with great caution.
      2. It's not ours, and it could be bobby trapped.
      3. We might have to give it back, so please don't touch.
  2. Have Noburi drain some chakra into a canteen or other container, to be periodically refreshed as it degrades (split up among the party members).
  3. Begin running towards Leaf, not stopping at the border - Hazou and Mari on either side of Arikada, Keiko and Kagome behind them, Noburi and Akane in the rear.
  4. Have Hazou strike up a conversation with Arikada. Mari will probably want to run overwatch.
    1. Maybe start with "Wow, that Edo Tensei technique is amazing, I thought it was just a myth! If I were trying to achieve that effect I'd do ...". Let Hazou give his best guess for how her seals work, let her correct our mistakes, and segue into a discussion.
    2. Try to get her to show off, talk technique, etc.
    3. Don't push too hard, if she seems wary back off.
    4. Try for a "curious engineer who's just heard about cool new tech" attitude, not "I want to see all your secrets".
  5. Travel Under Escort
    1. Discuss with Kagome whether he'd be willing to undergo Mari's bliss genjutsu to keep him from being jumpy at the patrol until everything is smoothed over and we start travelling again. Do so if he agrees.
    2. White flag the first patrol we run into, give them our passcode, and tell them to get Jiraya the message that "Arikada accepted his job offer." ASAP.
      1. Hand over a copy of our encrypted message to be passed on ahead, and one to be kept with our escort. Keep one copy hidden with the party.
      2. Don't push if they're not willing to send a runner.
    3. Ask about the possibility of travelling at least minimally equipped and on our own power.
    4. Surrender. Be polite and cooperative but do not divulge any information, insisting the mission report is for Jiraiya and the Hokage's ears only.
  6. Meeting Jiraiya / the Hokage
    1. Be forthright, polite, and cooperative. Apologize for the unexpected nature of the delivery.
      [*]If dealing with Sarutobi
      1. Answer all questions honestly but do not bring up any subjects he doesn't address (i.e. scorch squads).
      2. Leave discussions of reward till we see Jiraiya in person again.
[*]As soon as we see Jiraiya in private, give him both the letter that Hazou and Inoue wrote, and a copy of the one that Keiko wrote.
  7. <Ideal Stop Point for Update>
  1. We don't sleep while Arikada is around, everything should happen in a single straight shot.
  2. Make sure there is always at least 3 combat capable party members + Mari keeping an eye on Arikada at all times
  3. If we end up in a fight with Arikada, see "combat contingency" below
  4. Be polite
    1. Give Arikada basic considerations, tea, etc. and provide quality meals if we stop to eat, offer to eat from them in her sight.
      1. Use the good meals, from Kagome's stash (Sorry Kagome, we'll make it up to you with chocolate.)
    2. We're not her servants, but we're willing to be hospitable.
    3. We've got opiates if you want to take the edge off. Only small doses, and under our control, but hey it's there if you need it.
  5. Limit Kagome's interactions with Arikada so that he doesn't spill the beans (e.g. have him travel rearguard as suggested above)
  6. What do we do if she starts having second thoughts?
    1. Mari tries diplomacy/intimidation again
    2. If that fails, go nonlethal
      1. If we have Noburi's draining available use that
      2. Also try paralytic macerator(s).
    3. If that fails, go lethal-but-preserve-head.
    4. If that gets too dangerous, go full squish.
  7. Questions Arikada might ask and possible answers:
    1. What did he promise as my payment?
      1. Mari already covered this: 300k for coming in and working for a week, 500k more for succeeding.
    2. I have shit I don't want to toss, or have be searched. I will not go without it.
      1. "We're not letting you store it with our summons unless we get to see all of it. We are not going to leave any chance that you put something dangerous in there."
      2. "Mind, you can just keep it on your person but Jiraiya and company will almost certainly end up going through it. We were given a general purpose code that gets us to see them, and not one that would allow someone to smuggle something into their presence. Strong security protocols are a given."
    3. I don't want anyone watching as I dispose of stuff.
      1. "We need to be sure you're not planting a bomb or some other ruse."
      2. "You encrypt everything anyway, like any good sealmaster, right? What do you have to worry about? Seriously, Mr.Explosion-Pants over there encrypts his recipe book so that nobody can steal his secret sauce."
    4. Why are you willing to store my stuff for me?
      1. "We're missing nin, and you're a brilliant seal mistress. Cultivating a good working relationship is to the benefit of both of us. Not to mention you might be able to teach Hazou a thing or two."
    1. Seagull Yellow, Tentacles Black; meaning go lethal with explosives to get rid of the tentacles and then go back to capture
    2. Nobby stays out of the fight until Arikada is pinned with MEW and Water Clones
    3. Mostly non-lethal approach
    4. Destroy tentacles with ranged explosives
    5. Tag her with Syrup Trap from Mari
    6. Trap her/limit movement with MEW (Use limit movement by surrounding her with walls if it seems that Syrup Trappers can't get close enough, otherwise save chakra for catching her)
    7. Destroy rest of the tentacles with melee explosives
    8. Immobilize with Water Clones punching and pinning
    9. Send the clones in waves so they don't all get blown up at the same time
    10. Box Arikada tightly with Mew
    11. Leave room for Water Whip or mist to enter
    12. Drain her with WW or mist (if we can cobble together a misterator from the condense water cantrip/canteens/waterskins and a macerator once she's thoroughly restrained)
    13. Have Nobby drain Kagome or Akane to get enough chakra for Water Whip and Substitution

    16. Coordinate with abbreviations of what we are about to do and what we would like to see Nobby do, get more detailed once Arikada is better boxed in
[*]Supplementary lethal options if the methods in the preferred approach don't seem doable
    • Have Keiko tag Arikada with a kunai
      1. Standard kunai, see if it has any effect
      2. Kunai + ninja wire to leash her
      3. Kunai + ninja wire + lightning jutsu to disable
      4. Macerator with the wasp paralytic if other options don't seem to work
    [*]Defensive options
    • Wind Wall to block ranged attacks
    • MEW to block explosions
    • PMYF deployment for Subsitution
    • Melee explosives if she tries to get too close, preferably such that she'll tacmov out of the way rather than get squished.
    • Melee explosives to blast wire-whip kunai out off track

Suggestion: Have Inoue decided whether or not to do these things, since she's the Jonin and has a better understanding of what's a good idea and what's not.

@OliWhail Got some stuff, since I need to focus on something productive.

"We plan to drop some of our stuff off in the Summon Realm. We could keep a cache of yours there, but it would have to be inspected by us first for safety. We will return it to you after your work with Jiraiya is done, or during it with his approval."

I'm leery about even offering this, because she almost certainly won't accept it without trapping her stuff as a final "Fuck You" in case she's betrayed. Not only does she likely have seal designs that we won't know the function of by sight, thereby posing a massive security risk to the Pangolins, but this is another opportunity to bungle a Deception roll.

  • Hazou and Inoue discuss what should be included in the message outside of "Sensory Chunin" hearing range from Arikada but within "Bio-Sealmistress" hearing range.
  • Don't worry too much about Arikada spying on us, but don't try to shove it in her face.

Too complicated, too likely to bungle a deception roll, and doesn't really get us anything. We DO NOT want to look sloppy right now. Now is the time to display strength, a willingness to destroy her as soon as she attacks, and a willingness to not destroy her if she plays ball.

I know how tantalizing Edo Tensei is right now, but I am scared by what Jiraiya/Hiruzen will do to us. I've pegged Edo Tensei as one of the main reason Leaf wants her out of the picture.

Additionally, regarding travel procedures,

During the actual travelling portion, tell Arikada that "Hey, we obviously don't trust each other at all, and are both 100% prepared to kill each other should the Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal Shoe drop. We travel separately, but within eyesight. We can each set all the sealing defenses we want in our own camps if we have to stop and rest. This way, it's harder for either party to betray the other."

This way, we have much less opportunity to bungle up a Deception roll, Arikada has less opportunity to murder us, and we simultaneously make her slightly more afraid of us after hearing about and then seeing our sealing prowess.

I'm very leery about letting any guard down or displaying any weakness at all. We simply can't afford it.

Oh, and I don't know if this is mentioned, but I do think we should try to stash only our unique seal designs plus Noburi's broken barrel. The rest of it isn't something Leaf can steal without us knowing, and we are frankly pretty valued by Jiraiya after we pull this off. Trading our unique designs is something that might happen, but lets not give it to them for free.

Also, keep any dragonfly paralytic that we saved, since Jiraiya specifically asked for it and it'll get us even more brownie points. If we have enough for a dose or two outside of a macerator seal, great. If not, UGH. I'm really hoping that we have a dose outside of one of those, since we can't extract the paralytic from a macerator without dosing everyone around it, and I want to stash every macerator in the Summon Realm.

Well, time to find something else to distract me.

I mean, a lot of this plan would have been retroactively planned before we actually fought Arikada, so we just need to ask Inoue-sensei if we should cozy up to her and stuff, ask her if she wants to store stuff...

Maybe sign to Inoue-sensei: "Follow-plan-Y/N; degree?" and let her lead the conversation. Later we sign to her "Me-her-sealtalk?"

Side note: Maybe rewrite the "combat" contingency with "do what our plan was originally"? It seemed pretty airtight and we have better knowledge of her capabilities now.

Last point, I don't think we are going to be able to wash up safely when Arikada is around. You should note to do it only if we don't compromise our combat readiness. (Mari + 3 combat capable party members watching her.)

Also, what about my beautiful diamond travel pattern!

Anyway, action is better than inaction. Vote boldly!

Question: Why wash up? Any bioagents she put on her zombies to kill us are, giving the state of both this deathworld and the mfd!verse, both incurable and horrifically deadly.

@OliWhail we need to address Nobby's lack of chakra somehow. I'd suggest storing spare chakra in his cantine.
That's already there..?

@Twofold will mention washing up

@faflec idk how much more retroactive prep QMs will let us get away with, particularly prep for this very unlikely contingency (she's coming willingly)

@ChronOblivion still need to add specifics about what to store, will do now

My bad, I'm not the most observative :p
'S good. Okay, I've decided to follow MOR!Draco's advice and remove the complicated "lull her into a false sense of security and obtain her sealing secrets" plot. I think I caught all the recent comments.

    1. Let her burn it/dispose of it with Hazou + others watching.
  2. Have Noburi drain some chakra into a canteen or other container, to be periodically refreshed as it degrades (split up among the party members).
  3. Begin running towards Leaf, not stopping at the border - our group ~30m away from Arikada, Keiko and Mari even with her, Hazou and Kagome a short way behind them, Noburi and Akane in the rear.
  4. Travel Under Escort
    1. Discuss with Kagome whether he'd be willing to undergo Mari's bliss genjutsu to keep him from being jumpy at the patrol until everything is smoothed over and we start travelling again. Do so if he agrees.
[*]Store PMYF seals, directional explosives, notes, macerators, and other sensitive gear (wrecked barrel?) by sending it back with Kei/Pandaa as soon as we detect a patrol. If we don't have any paralytic separately stored, point out one of the paralytic macerators and make sure Pandaa knows we'll be needing to give the stuff in that to J soon.
[*]White flag the first patrol we run into inside Fire, give them our passcode, and tell them to get Jiraya the message that "Asset accepted his job offer" ASAP.
      1. Hand over a copy of our encrypted message to be passed on ahead. Keep one copy hidden with the party.
      2. Don't push if they're not willing to send a runner.
[*]Ask about the possibility of travelling at least minimally equipped and on our own power.
[*]Surrender. Be polite and cooperative but do not divulge any information, insisting the mission report is for Jiraiya and the Hokage's ears only.
  5. Meeting Jiraiya / the Hokage
    1. Be forthright, polite, and cooperative. Apologize for the unexpected nature of the delivery.
      [*]If dealing with Sarutobi
      1. Answer all questions honestly but do not bring up any subjects he doesn't address (i.e. scorch squads).
      2. Leave discussions of reward till we see Jiraiya in person again.
[*]As soon as we see Jiraiya in private, give him both the letter that Hazou wrote, and a copy of the one that Keiko wrote.
    2. If that fails, combat contingency.
  7. Questions Arikada might ask and possible answers:
    1. What did he promise as my payment?
      1. Mari already covered this: 300k for coming in and working for a week, 500k more for succeeding.
    2. I have shit I don't want to toss, or have be searched. I will not go without it.
      1. "You can just keep it on your person but Jiraiya and company will almost certainly end up going through it.
    4. Why are you being nice/courteous to me?
    14. If draining doesn't seem doable in short notice, deploy the wasp paralytic
    15. Eliminate incoming combatants (whether new ninja or clones) with extreme prejudice (depending on our hight Decep people to tell which targets are clones)

Make note that those quotes aren't intended to be used directly, they're just the general idea of what we want to say.

@OliWhail

Any thoughts on my proposed reductions on our interactions with her / travelling separately but within eyesight? I feel very strongly that we need to minimize the biggest danger here: Arikada either backstabbing us or pierce a single Deception roll and proceed to attack us.

ALSO!
[X] Training Akane: STR 7
Use 14 Conditioning XP

E: since attributes can be raised without spending training time :p

E: this is what point 8 was intended to convey. What could I do to make that clearer?

On travel formation:
  • Triangle with a leg formation:
    • Arikada alone at front
    • Kagome + Keiko on the left and behind Arikada (30 meters)
    • Hazou + Mari on the right and behind Arikada (30 meters)
    • Noburi carried (or escorted) by Akane behind Kagome and Keiko (30 meters)
Or maybe 20 meters distance? That's about the range of melee explosive (right?) and Mari's Syrup Trap.
