You are correct on all points! It was a trigger. Kakara sort of gets that. She doesn't have a great understanding of it, but gets that it wasn't an accusation. The reason she responded as she did was simply because a) she already dislikes Lady Vegeta and is inclined to give her zero charity, and b) she was offended. So her response very much evolved into, "screw you, I'm not like that," as I was writing it.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. It can be hard to discern in-character certainty from authorial approval in situations like this. I am a bit surprised there were no seeming negative repercussions (or reductions to compassion/pacifism related skills) associated with Kakara kind of twisting the knife by staring Lady V down in SSJ form. I think I'm unusually nonconfrontational/deferential by nature, though, and obviously it's harder to gracefully avoid triggering your enemies when you're 8-9 years old and raised in a culture that probably doesn't recognize or respect psychological issues much.

Not really. "Slack" involves Kakara not doing her homework when it would disallow her from doing whatever action you gain by slacking, and getting by on test grades.

Thanks for the clarification here as well. @Questers, sorry for propagating an incorrect understanding of the action. I still think other actions more effectively fulfill Kakara's goals, and are stronger elements of the role of the responsible, "good" kid as her circumstances and culture define it.

It is done. Let us never talk about this again.

Well, both plans had the core actions I wanted so I can't exactly complain about it.

Okay, putting aside a.) risks to the Masquerade and b.) questions of logistics (sun, food, who lets everyone out, etc.), frankly I'm not sure if we can assume that the Evil Containment Wave, which was a single-target spell-technique-thing that could barely handle the likes of the Demon King Piccolo could actually be made to hide a planet that includes multiple fighters whose powers are on par with Perfect Cell, let alone the large number of single-digit-millions power level Saiyans.

@PoptartProdigy has emphasized a couple of times that Magic works on concepts.
The concept of the Evil Containment Wave is "contain a single bad guy and seal them away forever".
This is a completely different concept, and so what would need to happen is that every sorcerer, including Dandelor (who's in hiding!), would need to pool their power, intellect, and experience, to have even the slightest chance of managing this idea.
I mean, who's to say that a spell (or set of spells) that accomplishes, essentially, either hiding this whole star system in a dimensional pocket, and/or putting up a giant "Notice Me Not/Not My Problem" field, hasn't been the subject of research since Sorcery first made an appearance?
How do you know that this isn't something that's been tried, is being tried?

I get that there's this compulsive need to Munchkin the hell out of literally everything and anything, but one thing I like in this quest is that @PoptartProdigy has made explicit steps to either say "no, you can't make that stupid cheese combo work because that's not how this works", or has made it clear certain actions and trends have consequences.

I'm sorry, are we both talking about the same people who can stuff trucks into capsules? I'm not sure why you're even mentioning magic in connection with the containment wave. It has been wielded by non-mages.

Maybe I should have gone with plan

[x] Fuck our reputation , lets kick this quest into over drive

You mean the technology we don't understand and can't replicate, and that so far as we, the Quest Voters, know, was never used on living beings (successfully)?
Capsule Tech and Evil Containment Wave are not the same thing, and trying to act like they are is not helpful.
If you want to try and propose such a thing, then when we either have a mid-year Planning Session Vote, or during our next Turn Vote, you ought to try to actually write up a proposal (one that doesn't just assume that things like Capsules and Containment Wave do exactly what you want with no alterations) for researching a way to "hide" the planet/solar system.

You're acting as if it is some immensely esoteric magical technique when it is in fact one of the first ki techniques ever developed and widely learned among the characters. You're acting as if matter containment is some extremely difficult achievement instead of something which has been used in mass-produced consumer products through purely technological means. I brought up capsules simply to highlight the absurdity of statements like:

to say nothing of:

Half of which I had already responded to and the other half of which is blown out of the water by the sealing of Zamasu with the exact same technique- trivially learned in a matter of minutes from observing a single use recorded on a cell phone screen.

Ok. This is getting ridiculous.

@Lailoken has a point in that prior examples show that sealing something is not something that should be extremely hard to learn and that it is not necessarily something you need something like sorcery when ki and technology have proven similar.

@KnightDisciple has a point in that we don't know a ki technique that can do so (the Mafuba being lost and having been created by a genious, the fact that nothing similar has been invented yet makes it seem like it would be a bit complicated to work the theory even if the aplication is easy to recreate) nor we have the technology so sorcery is a better option.

Both are missing the point that Dandelor's veil can solve the same problema without trying to recreate lost techniques and that if the exiles haven't done so with Garenhuld yet then there might be some concern we don't know about like power requirements or such.

Can we take a chill pill and present our arguments like jokes and laugh about them? No need to get worked up.

I have a plan!

Somebody roll for when the scouts show up.

This one'll be a d2. 1 means they show up sometime this year. 2 means they show up next year. More rolls will follow depending on the result.

EDIT: Damn it.
DOUBLE EDIT: I thought the timings were such that the scouts could either arrive next year or the year after, and the main force would definitely arrive in 3 years' time! We have even less time than I thought!
Deathbybunnies threw 1 2-faced dice. Reason: Scout arrival time Total: 1

:o:o:o

So just to be clear, that means that if everything goes to plan the scouts show up this year, we have a turn with no invasion stuff, and then the turn after next we have an invasion fleet dropping in?

That's right.

Anyway, now I need a d7. On a 1-6, they get here by year's end. On a 7, they make record time in examining and dismissing the systems between them and you and arrive by midsummer.

Canon Omake: Out of Context Threat
Yammar Vegeta comes to a halt opposite Dandeer on the stage, "Give me a single reason why I should not vaporize you where you stand for daring to imply that what you did to my grandson is my fault in any way."

"I have a reason" you say.

His eyes turn to you, "Really? Do share."

"Because you failed in your duty as Patriarch to reign in Vegeta." The lack of noise in the Hall is deafening as you say this. "Your son nearly killed your grandson, and you were nowhere to be found. You broke your son, and didn't do anything to prevent him from breaking your grandson in turn." Yammar's face is completely blank. "My father is only alive because Jaffur wasn't broken yet, but your negligence bears no credit for that."

The Patriarch Vegeta's face twists into a snarl as you sense him building up a ki attack, and you charge at him to hit him into the sky and away from the people. You succeed, but take his eyebeam full on in exchange.

As you reorient you note that the people at the meeting are running away, and Grandma is already engaging Yammar. You join her, hemming Yammar in, preventing him from opening the range he clearly wants to. He's good, way better than you, but with you and Grandma he's losing.

Then a green hand grabs your leg and whiplashes you into the wall of the training hall.

You dig yourself out of the rubble and are shocked to see a Namekian. The need to IT out of the way of his Special Beam Cannon fortunately breaks you out of it. Where the hell did this guy come from? You seek out with your mind, and find a distortion. Is that Sensei Carrick and his niece? Shit, they're in dang...

WHAM

Oh yeah, you're still in a fight. Ouch. You're lucky you don't really need that leg to fight. Probably not going to be kicking that Namekian any time soon.

You snap off a Kamehameha, and manage to get him in the chest. He staggers, and you follow up with a flurry of punches. Unfortunately for you, he's as tough as Namekians are supposed to be, because he gets his bearings while you're pounding on him. Soon enough he's parrying some, then most, then all of your blows.

You hear a bang as you sense Yammar closes a Hellzone Grenade on Grandma.

But now you're on the defensive. You're barely managing to parry all, most, some of his blows. It's all you can do to dodge him. Then you make a mistake. You leave yourself open just a smidge too much, and he has you dead to rights. His claw of a hand zooms towards your chest, his arm extending unnaturally.

Then Grandma's kienzan flashes in and you're able to open up space as the namekian retracts his stump. You barely have time to breathe before you see Yammar blow a whole through grandma's stomach with a galick gun.

It's suddenly hard to breathe. Which makes sense. You just saw your grandma die. No, wait, that's not grief, that's the hole the namekian put in your lung. You fall, and manage to angle to land next to grandma.

You blink as you hit the ground and suddenly daddy is there. "Mom, Kakara." He whispers as he holds you. Grandma says something, but you're having trouble hearing. You manage get a "dad..y" out through the bad lung before you start coughing.

He hugs you close, then suddenly looks up glaring at someone. You've never seen him so mad. "You!" he says, angrier than you've ever heard him. You're tired. "This is ALL YOUR FAULT! YOU'VE TAKEN EVERYTHING FROM ME!"

Things are getting dark even as daddy's power spikes. Wait, no. Daddy... the enemy... will...

-

You snap awake. What the hell was that?

"Karen?" Maya asks, "You okay?"

You nod at her, "Yeah, just a bad dream."

It didn't feel like a dream, it felt like a vision. But you're losing it like a dream. Something about a fight? Yammar? Or was it Piccolo? You huff, unable to remember, and lay your head down to get some more sleep.

This is the last post I'm going to make on the issue unless it blows up on us, because I had no chance to comment all day.

Well, here's to hoping we get some good dice rolls this year.

I sure hope all you people who voted for slacking don't have to experience what it's like to play XCOM as a consequence, because anyone who has should know that taking a "small chance" even once can lead to disastrous results.

Also learning that "Slacking" means not doing homework just makes my pound my head into the desk even more. Practicing, i.e. homework, is one of the main methods people learn things. Most people learn jack from sitting in on lectures. It requires a persistent framework of active learning to cement things into memory, and the very capability to do so effectively has to be learned.

If we roll well, maybe we won't suffer immediate consequences but I absolutely expect this to bite us in the ass in terms of actions later on. Barring maybe a 100, which could represent not ever having anything come up that would interrupt us in studying. But betting on getting a 100 is a terrible effing bet, and can only ever look like a good idea (to people who don't get statistics) retroactively if it succeeds.

And all that is assuming we're fine and dandy in regards to everything else that could go wrong because of it, and that's nowhere near certain.
