This needs updating, removing one multiform this turn to add a Training With Sensei. Compromise!

Why does the "compromise" option not include Training with Sensei.

Having only one action makes it a lose-lose situation in terms of our seer training.

I.e., succeed on the roll and we don't progress at all in our other techniques. Fail on the roll and we don't get the technique. I also think we'd be more likely to succeed in the roll if we show we're actually doing our work with everything else.

A teacher is going to be a lot more amendable to teaching an overachieving student more things than they are going to abandon their very important education to teach a single ability.

I could easily see Poptart making the DC way more difficult for the one action one than the two action plan.
Then we switch ki manipulation to telepaty and seer training?

This also seems like a step towards compromise. I'm going to update the plan to reflect this provisionally; give me your thoughts.

Thank you, that covers half of what I care about with the yearly vote, so let's cover the other half.

There are two things at stake here with the "Slack vote", both confirmed by Poptart. One is of course the consequences from the parents. We've covered the possibilities, of which they can range from 'bad" to "horrendous". However, I'm going to say something about risk mitigation in general. The best way to avoid getting screwed by rolls is to not put yourself into a position where you need to make rolls to avoid getting screwed in the first place, or putting yourself into a position where the rolls have worse consequences for failure.

Think about in terms of the conspiracy. Do you really want to be taking a risky action where one of the possible consequences is tremendously bad for the game when you can mitigate it by training just a little less? We have several non essential actions, and I would be fine with dropping them.

In addition to the above, a well-rounded and rigorously-attended-to education will in general make things easier on you once school gets harder in later years.

I would also like to point this out, as it does not seem to have been discussed.

With slack we're trading actions now for actions later. Being better at school means having to do less work to be good at it in the future. Like I said, it's a skill. It also makes things way more efficient.

For a real life example, I knew a guy that studied for 2-3 hours a day on a single subject. He was extremely, exceedingly dedicated to succeeding. He still got a C. I spent maybe 15 minutes a day getting an A on the same subject, mostly on homework, because I had the background and foundation for both the class and the study skills to do so efficiently and well.

There's a really good chance that "Maintain Grades" or "Improve Grades" will go up in cost if we start sinking, not to mention just the need to take "Improve Grades" in the first place.

What are you trying to accomplish examining Driven anyways? We won't get an extra action since we simply don't have the time and the willpower increase... what do you hope to accomplish with it?

I mean, I would find your plan more palatable if it didn't leave plot hooks likeNosy girl hanging.

I just did, in my provisional compromise plan!
So you have. And in the time it took to write my post. :(

I admit I'm wavering now between your Compromise plan and Aranfan's. I still want to take Maintain and Nosy Girl, but I'm not sure Tien style x2 is an efficient usage of actions. I think if we do do Tien style, better to do both actions or none, just to ensure we get the benefits of it next turn, rather than waffling and spreading ourselves too thin.

I'll probably stick with Aranfan for now.

Well see, there's the interesting thing -- not necessarily. Your parents understand that you have greater responsibilities to attend to and absolutely value the time you invest in your social life, and thus can be forgiving of a grade drop during a particularly stressful time. But it's important to note that in both of the presently-leading plans, two actions, representing significant swathes of your time, are devoted to things that you probably don't want to level with your parents about (namely, "Get Organized," and, "Beg Sensei To Teach You [Mind Projection]," given that the first is openly treasonous and being so insistent about the second one would be highly suspicious). Thus, you have no real alibi for either of those. Your parents will likely point to that time and ask why you didn't use it to keep your grades up, should they slip. Now, this isn't something that will interrupt the yearly schedule, but you can expect your teacher mother to set some stringent requirements on your time next year if you do slack and slip.

We don't have an alibi for those times, it's true. The thing is, we don't need an alibi; an alibi would be for trying to convince our parents we weren't slacking off for no good reason, but we don't need to do that - we're perfectly fine with spending 3 actions the turn after failure on our grades! We'll just say we were slacking a little. They won't look any further - we already confessed!

I would also like to point this out, as it does not seem to have been discussed.

This is a perfectly valid point, but I think a single occasion of increased cost to get back up to snuff will always be offset by the actions saved on previous turns - not least because of possible increased action points earned with those points.

And to be honest? I'm currently winning the vote EDIT: Not meant as a declaration of victory, that read completely wrong. I'm not making this compromise just to get more votes (though that would be nice!) but because a large portion of the playerbase disagrees with me on some points enough to vote elsewhere, and I'd like to try to address those points if I can. But a very large portion of my voters (myself included, admittedly) feel extremely strongly on the grades issue, and I don't want to betray them either. So I don't think I'm going to change my mind on this one, but I'm happy to further discuss any of my vote with you!

What are you trying to accomplish examining Driven anyways? We won't get an extra action since we simply don't have the time and the willpower increase... what do you hope to accomplish with it?

I mean, I would find your plan more palatable if it didn't leave plot hooks likeNosy girl hanging.
We can expect a willpower increase (making all our rolls more successful? Yes please!) and possibly more. And I think it's a perfectly valid trait to develop, character-wise. I see it being a big part of Kakara's core personality, and I think it's worth checking out.
EDIT: Remember, Poptart regularly makes hidden Willpower rolls!

And to be honest, with the invasion and the rebellion bearing down on us... I feel like until one of these turn-hogs is complete, splitting ourselves up further on more plot hooks is a bad idea. In 3 turns (possibly less) though, that'll change.

Why are people so opposed to maintaining our grades now and claiming we will make up for it next turn when we will have even more time pressures then.

Personally I'm afraid sure the Nosy Girl option is going to be harder if we don't take it now, since when we ask her why she acted weird she might be able to deny remembering anything about it, and she might also be less open to talk about it at that point.

Why are people so opposed to maintaining our grades now and claiming we will make up for it next turn when we will have even more time pressures then.

It's especially crushing for me because I was in the position of "we just not slack next turn" last turn, and now the "slack again" train seems to be winning. That's why I'm so sure it's going to start a pattern of us not caring about the grades, because it's starting to be obvious the player base doesn't.

Yeah... but again, we're seen as the responsible, mature child. When they ask us "And why were you slacking off? This should be easy for you", we can't just answer "it's because I'm a kid, okay, deal with it."

If we had the trait "childish" instead of "mature", I could see your point. But as someone known as a mature child, we're under a bit more scrutiny.

Oh! Is that the confusion? Okay, there's a few reasons:
1) We aren't necessarily going to have to make it up next turn - we have a better than even chance of not falling behind in class. So it's more like we'll spend 3 actions maybe next turn, maybe the turn after, maybe the turn after that, etc.. (If it goes on too long we'll probably end up switching to Maintain anyway, though). If we make one successful roll, we effectively gain 2 free actions relative to picking Maintain Grades over two turns.
2) Even if we did fail the roll this time around, thanks to the Multiform training we're doing, we're likely to get a bonus action - so overall, we'll be gaining actions even on an immediate fail.

Personally I'm afraid sure the Nosy Girl option is going to be harder if we don't take it now, since when we ask her why she acted weird she might be able to deny remembering anything about it, and she might also be less open to talk about it at that point.
And if I changed the Seer Training to Nosy Girl, that would make you happy?

That's why I'm so sure it's going to start a pattern of us not caring about the grades, because it's starting to be obvious the player base doesn't.
To be honest, this was true when I first posted the plan - the maths said that overall, our grade would stay stable while perpetually slacking. Now that the QM has weighed in on the possible importance of cumulative education, I will instead be voting that the first time we fail slack and make up the grade the turn after, that after that we Maintain Grades - we just have two separate crises going on, and I think in the short term we need the action points.

Yeah... but again, we're seen as the responsible, mature child. When they ask us "And why were you slacking off? This should be easy for you", we can't just answer "it's because I'm a kid, okay, deal with it."

Especially given our actions at the Council. Like holy shit. We have a fifth of the population eating out of our hand. Going "I'm a kid, I was slacking, so sue me" after that is legitimately frightening.

There's an alien invasion coming next year, saying that it's hard to care about school in light of what we're facing is enough of an excuse.

-[X] Slack (1 action): You have better things to do! Slack off on schoolwork to focus on other pursuits. Effect: Possible grade loss. You're smart and this is primary school, you have a decent chance of not dropping a grade.
-[X] Best Fit (1 action): Jaron has been brought into the Misfits, but as reclusive as he is he doesn't seem to know how to make the effort to really push into the group's dynamic. It's up to you and your friends to make him feel welcome, and this is your part in it. Effect: Do your part to make Jaron feel welcome in the group.
-[X]Nosy Little Girl (1 action): You've noticed lately that Maya has been acting...strangely. She's been giving you strange looks, and only recently stopped, starting to act a lot more comfortable around you. Maybe you're being paranoid, but you want to know what's up. Effects: Poke Maya, asking her what's up.

-[X] Train With Sensei (1 action): Nothing for it but time. Effect: Grind your talent in Seer abilities. Sensei tells you that this will be gruelingly hard, and take years to master no matter how much of a prodigy you are.
-[X] Beg Sensei To Teach You[Mind Projection]
-[X] Socialize! (Fennella)
-[X] Family First (Mato)
-[X] A Scion's Duties III (1 action): You have a comprehensive knowledge of the way Clan Goku functions, a general overview of Clan Vegeta, and are an effective and renowned communicator. It's time to finish your theoretical education by completing your knowledge of Clan Vegeta and expanding your training in how to manipulate and mediate between others. Effect: Learn the art of diplomacy and Clan management at the feet of your father, improving your Communication and Intrigue skills and learning about the practical side of managing hundreds upon thousands of Saiyans who all want a fight.
-[X] Get Organized (1 action): Presently your conspiracy is more like two separate plots running in tandem; you and the Senzus, and then whatever Grandma is doing. You need to get everybody in the same room together so that you all can unify your efforts and share all available information. Effects: Figure out just what Grandma has been up to and what assets she can lend to things. Share information and work out a unified plan of action. As this involves you, Grandma, and the Senzus in the same room at the very least even before including anybody you bring in this year, this is highly treasonous and will involve an event series. The possibility of discovery does exist, although with your current precautions is fairly unlikely.

Yeah, I'll be renaming that as Plan Deathbybunnies by the end. Trying to make people happy!

If you changed anything but asking Sensei about Mind Projection to Nosy Girl I'd be happy, yup.
Changed to Nosy Girl, since I think a few people wanted that and less apparently wanted Seer Training than I thought.

Think you should ask if any of your voters object before that.

You would have to

Your parents understand that you have greater responsibilities to attend to and absolutely value the time you invest in your social life, and thus can be forgiving of a grade drop during a particularly stressful time. So yes, if our grades slip it directly brings attention to things we REALLY don't want attention on. You darn well better have some good excuses!
