In that case we have an in. Sycorax can be turned in our favor by doing human DNA experimentation with them, healing whatshername, and letting her take control of her company back from her clone. Meanwhile the Funtelligence dude feels guilty as fuck over stealing Wendy's work, he might get deposed if/when that info comes out, but if we can keep him in charge, we can use his guilt and desire to make up to Wendy to leverage him into a useful ally. That just leaves Bakaemono Corp as ??? along with Yokai himself ofc.

Or buyout Funintelligence and have Wendy take the fucker over. Because JUSTICE.

Huh, that IS only DC 120, depending on what Stewardship Heroes we get, if Wendy gives us a bonus in negotiations, and if we put personal attention on it, its actually pretty damn dooable.

Edit: Wait thats initiate hostile take over, not buy them them out, thats DC unknown. My mistake.

Hostile takeover was what I meant.

I really don't want to make another enemy at the moment... We're trying to ally with Xanatos against Toffee, we will have the PB coming for Russ, we are in a (losing) war against ENCOM and there's still Doom there being annoying. Oh, and the prophecy that will happen within a year that will shatter the magical Masquerade.

That said I am not opposed to doing that when we're less pressured. In the same vein, I feel like getting a new enemy without getting a hero/s whose loyalty will increase just for going against that enemy (like Go Go) feels a bit suboptimal... especially if that hero may have some juicy secret.

We aren't really at war against Encom, unless we're being dramatic. We took advantage of their flops to earn a bunch of income, and haven't done anything against them sense, nor have they acted against us.

buyout Funintelligence

Out of all the buyouts, Funintelligence offers the least fallout due to us having dirt on Trengrove.

But in narrative terms, what makes Doofanina sound more impressive:
  1. DEI assimilates Funintelligence and then pushes out sentient AI.
  2. After cracking the code on Artificial Intelligence, Doof nabs his biggest competitor in the field.
I'm down for grabbing the company, but I want to wait till we've won the race. Gridlock is a corporate hellscape, let's play the part.

So here's a thought largely unrelated to currently ongoing events:

Doesn't Fireball take place tens of thousands of years into the future? Considering everyone is so sure that Drossel is actually going to be around I'll just assume that's something confirmed either by the GM or background setting information that I didn't read, but like, Drossels appearance was drastically different from her current one a mere 450 years before the original Fireball, is she going to even be recognizable at this point in time?

Paradoxes

Throughout the quest, you might notice that some things don't exactly line up. Dates may contradict each other, events could've happened in the past that outright invalidate others, and some people could inexplicably be holding positions of power for decades despite not looking a day over thirty. Rest assured that these are not just multiple simultaneous mistakes on the part of the QM- there's an actual in-universe explanation for this.
Because of the Paradoxes I think she'll look recognizable.

Wall-E takes place hundreds of years into the future and Nausicaa thousands of years into the future and those settings are recognizably transplanted here.

I'm going to just assume it has something to do with the temporal war being fought between DORIS and Tomorrowland.

First of all, staph votin'!

Second of all, I'm pretty sure that the Tempest Domain was snatched from sometime during the Fireball season. Not Charming or Humorous, which are prequels to the original Fireball. Not because we know anything in game, but because that would be simplest for the QM.

Actually, getting Xanatos to agree to work against Toffee, should be pretty easy. He'll probably do his own investigation, but an inter dimensional dark lord, seems like a problem for everyone on this Earth.....

By the way, when are the presidential elections coming? If Doofy runs, and gets elected, think how nice that would be!

We have the only therapist in the world.

Simultaneously, all the Nega-Quests choose the option to look into Dr. Heinz Doofenschmirtz, and see what makes him so oddly effective.

Simultaneously, they all roll natural 100s, followed by 78s. This, plus their bonuses, makes all of them critically succeed.

In every single Nega-Quest, in the turn results, the GM only says one line.

"Doofenschmirtz's Hero Units have access to an on-site therapist."

"Ah, yeah," every Nega-Quest says, at the same time. "That'd do it."

There is a scenario that terrifies me.

"A alliance Dr? What a coincidence. I was going to invite you to our alliance we've built this year. There's myself, Shego, shere khan, the American government, and the person that started it all...

...Toffee."

...Elected as what? "Supreme Overlord of three (well, two and a half) states" isn't an elected position.

You think about what you should go over with Xanatos. First and most important has got to be that mess with Toffee, right? The more people think he's just some innocent lizard lawyer, the more he can infiltrate and walk all over everyone! "So, uh, David. I've been doing some looking into stuff and I came across something that's pretty surprising. You know that guy you were talking with back at the Sands Gala- Toffee, the lizard lawyer guy? Well, after investigation, it turns out that he's bad news. Like seriously bad news. Multidimensional warlord conqueror-style bad news."

Xanatos blinks. "Ah, good, you noticed. That saves me on having to bring you up to speed."

"Eh?!?! You already knew?"

Russ rolls his eyes at the man. "Of course."

"Knew that Toffee was waging an interdimensional war of conquest against Phobos with genocidal intentions in mind? Yes, I did."

"War of conquest on who?"

"Ah." Xanatos replies. "Yes. The majority of Toffee's current attention is taken up by another despot fighting across the planes, one who seems diametrically opposed to him. We should be thankful; there are entire planets' worth of resources currently not being marshalled against us primarily due to greater concerns."

"And here I was worrying that it was gonna be a hard sell. I even brought over the cell phone footage that my ninjas recorded!"

"While I appreciate how forthcoming you are with this information, there's no need to try and convince me of Toffee's intentions. He is one of the greatest threats our planet is facing at the moment."

"Okay okay, just gonna go down the list to make sure I'm not missing anything. Mewni? Monsters? Kalabar? Interdimensional Corn?"
"I don't believe we're familiar with a 'Kalabar', are we Owen?"

"No, Mr. Xanatos."

"One of Toffee's lieutenants, I take it. Presumably the one that reached out to you a few months ago?"

"Yeah! He looked human, underneath all the 'you're-not-my-real-dad' brand hair gel, but he got in and out of my office with apparently no effort. It was spooky."

"I dunno if Dimensional Scissors can get you inside an enemy's sanctum that easy by themselves." Janna notes.

"There's no obvious logical reason why not." Russ adds, "and yet-"

"Magic builds itself off of symbolic meanings. The idea of thresholds and boundaries is one with strong influence." Xanatos finishes. "I'll keep an eye out for this Kalabar."

"Ok so." You continue. "You know about Toffee, cool cool cool. But. There's also a uh, other matter I thought I might bring up…"

You look over towards Janna.

"So, Xanay. Can I call you Xanay?" Janna asks, not even waiting for confirmation before continuing. "Word on the street is that you're the guy to go to when there's an arcane mystery at hand. That means you'd be pretty good at prophecies too, I'm guessing."

"Signs of an overactive imagination, I'm sure. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm an authority on the subject, but as you can tell from our meeting I'm aware of the arcane to an extent."

"Well. I recently watched a bunch of ninjas perform a tarot reading, and judging by all the magic glowing and disturbingly accurate personal information, I'm pretty sure it's real. The only problem is the last part."

Owen's eyebrow raises near imperceptibly. "Mr. Xanatos has indulged in divination from time to time, though most readings can be interpreted in a myriad of ways. What was it specifically about this divination that made it an object of your concern?"

"So, you know how there's that huge magical cover-up where the Feds try to make sure no one knows the true extent of what's happening under our noses? While my boss probably wouldn't mind if that came crashing down-"

"Hey!" you object.

"-And 'don't talk about magic' is just one of many rules I disregard completely-"

"Attagirl!" Feldrake agreed.

"-Even I can see that just letting that get thrown out there? Not a good look."

"...she kinda has a point, dad." Vanessa agrees.

Xanatos coughs lightly. "What was the prophecy in question?"

Janna closed her eyes. The atmosphere inside the limo seemed to darken slightly as clouds gathered outside. "The light you seek shall not be found. Though others might join and effort abound. Til' the demon stands where died her mate, against the world in reckless hate."

"Through hate she will inspire fear. This darkness comes- within one year. Though her plan will fail, the veil will lift; through truth, her people set adrift."

"With schemes unfurled, a different plan. A princess from another land. An ally of great strength she seeks. The payment? Hearts set on her cheeks."

The purple glow faded from Feldrake's eyes. "Show-off." he muttered under his breath.

Xanatos doesn't seem to react once Janna is finished reading off the prophecy, though you do notice that Max looks a little creeped out from the atmospheric effects Janna was adding for dramatic effect.

"Interesting. I suppose it's possible that the prophecy is indeed talking about the magical masquerade, though as Owen mentioned before prophecies can be deliberately vague and open to interpretation. It's quite possible that worrying about this would be a waste of time, or even lead to an accidental fulfilment of the prophecy, if the actual event in question is unrelated."

"Yeah. Just thought we'd give you the heads up since you're obviously the guy in the know over here." Janna mentions, her typical expression of bored disinterest back on her face.

"I appreciate your frankness." Xanatos responds, reclining ever so slightly in his chair.

It's at this point that you realize you were maybe being too open? You mean, this was really important, and it seems like Xanatos totally understands your concern, but if you're going to bring up the idea of a broader alliance, you'd better be real subtle about it.

"No reason." You reply quickly, before Russ has a chance to do more than open his mouth.

Naaaailed it!

"Drakktech recently fulfilled a rather large government contract, and Ms. Go herself has proven to be a decisive woman in the boardroom. Xanatos Enterprises has already agreed to collaborate with Drakktech on military projects in the future, which I believe could be extremely profitable for both of our companies and an incredible boost to the stability of our armed forces."

"Yes. I find it can be a very rewarding enterprise."

Well… no. Xanatos is lying to you, or at least, intentionally leaving a lot out. Russ tells you as much with a quirked eyebrow that you somehow manage to catch. While you still more or less don't mind Greatest Rival Shego, even you recognize her temper, her laziness, and her overall laissez-faire attitude to the 'territory' she adamantly insists is not her territory. You're certain Xanatos notices too, and based on what you know of the guy with his brilliant web weaving and distant but careful stewardship of New York, that seems like the sort of thing he'd care about. Xanatos is intentionally painting Shego in the best possible light, which means…

You have no idea what this means.

But it seems important.

---

The rest of the ride is not nearly as eventful. Janna makes small talk with you, Russ, and your hosts. Max and Vanessa talk amongst themselves, a little awkwardly given the other adults in the car. You're pretty sure that neither of them envisioned the trip going this way. You'll have to make sure to give them some fun On-The-Town time later.

You blink suddenly as you notice the car headed south. "Wait. I may not be a lifelong New Yorker, but I Goofy said the Bazaar was at the end of the subway line on 96th Street. That's way up north, isn't it?"

"Yes." Xanatos replies as the limousine pulls to a stop outside of Grand Central Station. "That would be the public entrance."

"Of course the private one's going to be hidden somewhere nicer. I bet they've got a secret passage in here that the maintenance man wanders into every so often by mistake, so now he's in on the whole charade." Janna doesn't seem too put out by the change in location.

Russ glances around the building for a moment before coming to a decision. "It's in the offices, isn't it."

Xanatos raises an eyebrow.

"Quiet, out of the way, easy to hide from anyone who doesn't work in the department or simply glamor until it's imperceptible. Since only the reigning nobles get to use it, there's no need for large scale attention diversion. You can just put it somewhere only you are allowed to go, then make anything actually magical a backup."

"You're quite the professional."

"So they say."

Russ' words prove almost perfectly prescient, and soon you're being ushered into a disused office and then through a marble archway that definitely wasn't there a moment before. The multicolored sky and logic-defying dimensions of the place stun you as it stunned Goofy before, the vast riot of medieval stonework and asian towers rising up into the sky or in some cases down from it. Even Max and Vanessa have to pause for a moment in awe.

"Are they going to take issue with this many normal-looking people arriving at once?" Russ asks.

"Not through this door." Xanatos replies. "Consider yourself to have special dispensation. Though I could find you a pointed hat, if you'd like."

"No need, thank you."

You do have a few minutes before the auction starts, and you are in an exceptionally distracting locale. Would you like to spend a few moments looking around?

After you conclude with your business, it's just about time for the auction to start. You make your way through the maze-like assortment of stalls and shops to a large clearing filled with hundreds of wooden chairs and a huge stage built into the side of one of the buildings. People are already starting to filter in- nobody you recognize from this distance, but at least half of them look like they're human. Or at least close enough to human, you can't tell if their ears are pointed or not at this distance.

You can see dozens of wizards, witches, ghouls and goblins, all chattering to each other in an endlessly fascinating riot. One woman with a red dress and a mane of silver hair is even getting thrown out by security trolls!

Sometimes it pays to have friends in high places. Thanks to Xanatos' influence, you've got seats in the front row! Max and Vanessa seem more than a little nervous, but Janna is grinning like there's no tomorrow.

"I am going to be seriously disappointed if we don't walk out of here with at least one dark artifact. How am I going to become an evil archmage if I don't have any artifacts?!"

"You heard my acolyte!" Feldrake barked. "Don't stick to those wishy-washy light artifacts either! They're no fun!"

"We'll see." you say noncommittally. You really don't know enough about magic at this point to understand anything more than the basics. "So, Xanay."

"If you're not running this thing, who is?"

"Magica De Spell."
