Well, I don´t have these doubts. Would be just our luck if that invisible timer already ran out and we didn´t even know.

I wanted to only ignore him as long as needed for us to build up some actual way to combat him, ...*be smart about it*, you know?
The problem is, it's hard to combat something you don't know about.

There's no actual wake to combat bill unless we have knowledge that Bill exists, and knowledge of ways to combat him. We don't get that unless we look into him. A bit of a catch 22 actually, but nothing that can't be solved by looking into Bill.

I'm not going to say that looking into Bill isn't important and all, but this is the description for looking into Oregon
[ ] Investigate what's happening in Oregon
DC ???
Lately Oregon has been a hotbed of weirdness. People are spotting all sorts of cryptids up there, like the Jersey Devil (who's a long way from home), the Mothman, Bigfoot, and lots of others. Despite having modern cameras on them at all times it's inexplicably hard for people to snap accurate pictures, but your instruments are better than that, right?

(Reward: ???)
Note that the action is focused on the cryptids in Oregon. If we do this action, Doof is probably going to have the hero unit focus more on these guys and not on Bill.

If we really want to start focusing on Bill, we're probably better off poking the SF cult imo. Personally I don't think we should start poking into Bill yet because he's one of those things that require a lot of focus and we're already spinning a lot of plates, but we're probably more likely to get Bill focused results there. Plus we'd be doing a action where we know the odds of success rather than ???.

We've ended up fooled by descriptions before. That description is what Doof thinks because he has no idea about Bill. But Cryptids are linked to the Triangle and Gravity falls. It's an intro action. We don't automatically get "Here's how to stop Bill" right out the gate. We're gonna need to dedicate a few actions to this since we procrastinated on it for so long out of unhelpful fear.

The action is suited to the amount of information on Bill we could handle at the beginning of the Quest. (Mostly because we never unlocked subsequent actions).

I mentioned it in the Discord, but if we really are that scared about Oregon, there is a potential path for revealing or lowering the DC for Investigate what's going on in Oregon. One of the actions we unlock from Basic Magic Theory is "track magical creatures". I imagine doing that would have some sort of effect.

Of course that action is at least three turns away, but it is an option.

[ ] Basic Magic Theory
DC 75
If you're going to move forward with magic on an organizational scale, you're going to need a basic understanding of what magic is. What's a cantrip, where do spells come from, what are wizards actually doing, and why?
(Reward: Study Magic personal action unlocked, look into magical people online action unlocked, hold a magical seminar action unlocked, track magical creatures action unlocked, look back through your magic stuff action unlocked, Map Leylines action unlocked, allows further magical actions)

Yes, but the fact we don't know anything about Bill means that Doof isn't going to be looking into Bill at all until, like Russ gets back so he knows about it.

Like again, I don't think we're going to get a gift wrapped sign to instructions to stop Bill, I just think right now 1. Jumping directly into Oregon right now at best is us hoping Doof stumbles into this by accident and 2. Especially with the ??? DC, it's an unnecessary risk when we have other avenues like the San Fran cult at the moment.

We're probably more likely to also get Bill results when Russ comes back anyway, since again, Doof doesn't know about him. Plus council will be up to further stack the odds in our favour.
Edit

Also, I might be misremembering, but wasn't that a similar line of thinking we had to the Wasteland Quest before we got blindsided by the people like the Duke of Detroit?

I mean, we found WALL-E's home. So we weren't really wrong on that one either.

...would Fred be a good unit against all the crazy stuff? what with his encyclopdedic knowledge of tropes and such?
He could, despite how much Bill would hate to admit this he is kind of... Predictable... Once you get to know him.

Fred's main strength is genre savviness, he could figure out some things about what's going on or guess some of Bill's actions ahead of time, but I'm not sure.

I'm in favor of looking into the cult, and hoping it reduces/reveals the Oregon DC.
I also remember that someone mentioned that the action deals with cryptids specifically, that doesn't particularly matter? It was the search for cryptids that led Dipper to Bill in the show, after all.

I...Mean, OK, that's not my reasoning. My hope is that looking into the cult will give us a lead or some info that will reduce the DC of looking into Oregon (or, at least, let us know what the DC actually is).

New cards!

Uh oh! The extra card I gave you before would mess up the order I had planned. I don't want one to hang on to the next page on its own! What am I to do?

How about a two for one? Double the freebies, double the fun?

Sure! We're throwing in another consolation card for your Encounters page!

I'm kind of curious how these cards are made, tbh. They're pretty neat.
Thanks! Since you asked about the process, I can break it down real simple like.

The HERO CARDS are tables/cells in Google Docs I thoroughly tricked-out with bells and whistles so they look like "trading cards" when presented as images. Once I had a template down, all I had to do was fill out the fields. For cropping the images into neat squares, I use my old pal Token Stamp 2.

It's that simple. I can get a lot of them done on short notice when I'm inspired.
