I appreciate the compliments on Don Karnage. I'm not going to threadmark this or anything, but for anyone interested, he's the guide I use to keep track of his mannerisms:

Don Karnage Reference Sheet

Karnage is quite self-absorbed and spends a good bit of time speaking highly of himself. He is easily the most competent of the air pirates, although that's not much of an achievement

Extremely egotistical, constantly upselling himself

Clever, but easy to anger and distract, will take opportunities to showboat even if it puts him at a disadvantage

Rarely takes his own actions seriously

Automatically responds to compliments and good manners in kind without thinking

Deliberately plays up the dashing pirate angle

Still ruthless, but has a code of honor, fights 'equally' if not fairly, and honors parley

Treats subordinates poorly, foes harshly, but shows respect to those who stand up to him without actively threatening his ego or interests

'Oh riiiight, the secret weapon! oh son of gun I was having so much fun with the torture I almost forget.'

Pet Peeves: Having his name mispronounced, being called crazy, his crew calling themselves "robbers" instead of pirates, being interrupted while writing in his diary

'Don Karrrnage, roll the R!'

Sounds like Ricky Ricardo

Vaguely Spanish with a dash of French but a nonsensical mess of accents and malpropisms.- if you can't figure out how he'd talk, make something up. Use French and Spanish words at random, or just nonsense words that sound French or Spanish

'Greetings, X-type person'

'Greetings and salivations' 'what blows up must go down' etc.

'I am sorry to interrupture the conversation' 'this is how you say, a small gherkin' 'son of a mother's uncle!'

Often uses odd word choice that implies English is not his first language

'burn them to itty bitty ashes' 'let the good times begin the spinning'

Frequently uses own name and title 'It is I, Dread Pirate Don Karnage', etc

On the rare occasion he actually uses a phrase right, he pronounces it totally wrong, i.e. "Smahlll pohtaytohs'

Often openly states own emotions 'oh you make me madder than a Suzette breakfast' 'I have not been so happy since I plundered Banana's Republic'

CURSES AND MORE CURSES

When in doubt, take a walking tour of Southern Europe

Lastly, don't oversell it. He's quirky, but not every sentence out of his mouth is ridiculous.

Yeah I'm going to have to chime in on Karnage is fun to see but *not* to host, even in the original show he was someone that was too in love with being a pirate to ever get along with anyone that wasn't a stooge or lackey with the one exception being the episode where he and balloo were stuck together.

Now that we have Mal and his meaty 38 Occult score I'm really tempted to go for Search for Magic Individuals next turn since it has a decent chance of success now and will get us two occult units if we succeed betting freeing Janna for her training arc.

Hopefully, it will also push the Glooms down the priority list and give increase the threads interest in recruiting...Dingo.

Well, that could have been worse. I was honestly expecting Karnage to walk away with something. Guess that will teach me to assume, huh?
It unlocks Jack Black and Elmo as heroes!

Okay, not really. Still, we love KFAD! Just throwing that out there.
NO. NO. NO. NO. STOP. NO. NO. NO. NONE OF THAT. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

Wait he's unlocked this turn...
Eye twitches
Well, I guess this partially settles the occult debate...
That it does, that it does. Considering Mal is a proficient spellcaster, I'm not expecting anything lower than three stars of occult

cough

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to laugh myself silly at all the past debates.

Quite right. While Karnage can be amusing, I'd rather him stay out of our territory. Perhaps the roof mounted defenses should be considered? If we do wind up meeting him, it seems wise to make it clear that we're not going to be an easy target.
No, no! If he ever comes around, we must let Tobe fight him! I'm actually kinda sad he didn't steal anything at all, so we could sic Tobe on him, but I'm sure Karnage will come for the treasure sooner or later. Until then, Tobe has to prepare.

Well, I'd definitely say the Glooms have officially dropped in importance. Grunkle Malf seems to have double their Occult score, so unless he doesn't have that scrying mirror the only real advantage the Glooms have over him is mobility. I'm fine with getting Juniper next turn and having Malf study the Crystal Key. That ought to minimize any chances of failure while having Tobe available if we need ninja skills!

I wonder what is with the octagon.

My guess?

Talismans

One of these.

This made my afternoon. Not because I like Juniper, she's neutral as far as I'm concerned. But because I never liked the Glooms in the first place. It's Jessie and James but less appealing.

Easy, now. While Malf is an absolute powerhouse of an unit, this interlude shows he is both unfamiliar with modern technology and stuck inside his castle. While he'll be amazing on projects that can be performed inside his castle and involve no tech, I'm sure he'll have a couple of punishing traits that limit the actions we can put him on.

Though I wonder what happens if we give him the Astral Projection Talisman. Does he become able to leave the castle?
