I don't have time to read through all the discussion, but it seems at some point consensus shifted form favoring the encantus to favoring the Talisman. What led to that?
A flicker of disgust passes across Xanatos' face. "Yes, sadly the Huntsclan has been plaguing the Magus Bazaar and New York at large for the several years." Xanatos replies. "Their hatred seems inexhaustible. They want nothing more than to wipe out anything nonhuman with a spark of magic, because they're inferior. Or a terrible threat. I don't know, it seems to change every week."
"Can't you just… I dunno, wipe them all our or something?"
"It's not that simple. The Huntsclan are more than a terrorist group. They're an ideology, devoted to wiping out magical creatures whenever they're able. They're organized into multiple cells, several of which have no purpose other than to build more. It's an unfortunate truth that people tend to fear what they don't understand, and it's very doubtful that mentality can be changed overnight."
Oh great, anti-magical KKK.
Right. Guess we need to plan for what to do when the masquerade falls.
Well, people have described how a side-effect of our plans to make Doofania a cultural powerhouse will make people more accepting of magic in many ways. I still fully agree to that, and we should keep that diplomatic approach up. If the wizards are always friendly neighbors in our cartoons, people might have a better view of them.
Xanatos is right that that some stuck-up thickheads will hate magic and magicians no matter what. don't know how many will go so far as joining the not-KKK, but there defintely will be some. Now I ask, are we and our future great society of muggles and mages going to cower in the face of a few mad terrorists? NO! Perhaps an armed insurrection of some few die-hard racists is impossible to avert, much in the same way it is unthinkable for the United States to have ended slavery without a civil war. In that case, when the fighting is futile to avert, there is nothing to do but to commit fully: Deploy Genghis Khan and
crush the bastards!
Remember, in a twisted way when a bunch of racists are resorting to terrorism against you it means that your policies are
working. It means you're changing society in a way that definitely threatens their bigoted way of life.
Intrigue Check: Is anyone eyeing this item?

All sorts of people around the auction are interested in the talisman. Everyone from Xanatos to the bowler hat man look at the talisman with interest, even that one weird redhead in the back row. This is going to be one of the hottest items of the night.
And that's on only the first level of success, yet we can see it's in very high demand. This is gonna be contested alright.
As Magica begins the next lot, Russ leans over, and speaks gently in a voice only Xanatos can hear.
"I know what you're doing."
"Oh?" Xanatos whispers back, quirking a single eyebrow.
"I don't know if you're just being opportunistic, or what, but it doesn't matter. I may agree with you, but I'm not going to let you strongarm the Doctor into this."
"Is that a hint of loyalty I detect?"
"Call it a desire not to have the rest of the country under your thumb too."
"Well then. I suppose you'll just have to find a way to convince him to keep things in check yourself. We both know what happens if you don't."
Russ glares.
Rus knows something about what Xanatos is up to, that he's either unwilling or unauthorized to share with us. But I can see what the Government wouldn't want Xanatos to have too much influence.
