That's actually the wrong quote...

Let me find the right one.

If someone else doing it can piss them off this bad because it spits on all their values, you can guarantee that them doing it themselves is unthinkable because it violates all of their values.

Shit. Well there goes that idea by WOAN.

Well, what do you think about sending out discrete groups of Blackbirds to fuck things up? They are ninjas after all.

My interpretation on AN was that them sending all their mercs was nearly certain, and all the situations he described had that built in.
Considering I counted their mercs as being their armies when AN said 'we could probably take them' I was counting that as the mercenaries and when he said they could bring others in to make it dicey I was thinking that AM meant the hired slaver tribes

It makes me wonder why you guys think AN needed to clarify that an offensive choice would end badly. Maybe it is because one of the choices is an Offensive option? Which do you think that would be?

Yes the Trelli need to be talked to, but we are not currently capable of dealing with them in a martial manner.

Do we actually have AN quotes that Trelli do not have colony/march/trade post? Like they were K's trade post, so the concept is there already.
Well, we have his map which is like forty years old at this point. It clearly showed them without subordinates. And describing them as Venice and Carthage makes it sound like that's still true.

None of them are offensive war.

As far as we are aware they are a single city using money to hire out the local tribes to raid for slaves and also using mercenaries as the basis for their armies.

They are supposed to be Not! Venice after all

Then why did AN say it was possible?
Also we are trying to avoid war by prematurely stopping their raids and massive expansion in a provocative but not aggressive fashion. It's not an insta war ticket, and if it did lead to war it'd be a defensive one

If we are doing either East or West trade posts. I want to do Grand Docks asap, even before Census. We will seriously need the boat tech.

That map is kinda ancient with complete non-information past Trelli point. And AN said they are Venice/Rome; so a bit flippy on that part.

Also could you link to Academia Nut's post on that? I couldn't find it.

Those posts were actually quite cool.

Only doable at Stability 2 or 3, but you are now imagining the hypothetical quintuple kick war mission against someone using biological warfare derived from the teachings of the People.

Unless you rolled incredibly poorly, you would probably get at least one full generation before anyone even considered poking you again, allowing for some recovery. We'd be talking archaeologists would be wondering what sort of ecological disaster caused the cessation of whatever civilization was involved, given that the layers would just stop at one point. Like, detritus layers from long term occupation, then a destruction layer, obvious burial and compaction, and only significantly later would the signs of human activity return.

Nah, but doing things like deliberately dumping waste into drinking water supplies based off of explicit knowledge given to you by the People as to how to avoid that, i.e. taking knowledge intended to help and using it maliciously to harm, would drive them absolutely berserk. Just kicking people out, well, even the People do quarantine. Also, it would pretty specifically have to be using the knowledge of cholera prevention within the next generation to truly produce ire, in that it would be obvious that someone was taking the knowledge freely given and abusing it.
Expect arguments among archaeologists over whether the written records (which wouldn't necessarily survive, and would almost certainly become mythical pretty fast) are accurate, or if the People were simply claiming credit for some sort of natural phenomenon, or if perhaps there was some sort of military expedition but it was during a time of plague or climatic upheaval.

Quintuple kick is

"Ummm... who's farming your land?"

"We have reserves. We'll endure."

"Oh. I see... I guess that explains why your women are here too."
Well, all of your immediate neighbours would just sort of back away slowly and go "Can you tell us what they did so we can never repeat that?"

And of course, a Xoh Negaverse omake describing just that

Now, sure, this is also because some other values would have been violated (the Xoh perverting our knowledge also triggers Love of Wisdom or whatever it was back then), but it was made clear that use of biological warfare triggers Divine Stewards something fierce.

You know, it occurs to me that this whole "be passive-aggressive with the Trelli by preempting their strategic resource trade" is rather... immature. I mean, really? We have a problem with the Trelli, and instead of confronting them about it we decide to poach their trading partners?

Do we really not have better means of conflict resolution than this? What happened to Honour of Elites; weren't we supposed to be the honorable polity?

So you know what? I'm changing my vote. lets handle our confrontations the way our ancestors would have wanted us to, and in a away that would make our descendants proud.

We are already doing that when we are fighting people in war. Did that to the Hats when we got into war with them.

Makes us a bitch to deal with since they can attack out of season as it were.

If you mean, before we get into war with someone, we nixed that idea long ago with the Metal Workers. It also again goes against our Justice trait.

E: And Joyous Symphony too now that I think about it.

I want to finish Palace before anything else. After that, we can talk about doing boat stuff.

Also, we can't afford the Grand Docks; they require lots of wood supply that we don't yet have. Maybe after we integrate the Stallions?

I'd also like to get the far north trading post before we grab the Grand Docks. I'd like to have as many types of wood available as possible.

I'm just confused as to why people want to kill our action economy when we have three Megaprojects and two integrations to go before we get our realm out of "civil war at the drop of a hat" area.

Why mention it at all then?

I am pretty sure he meant that one of the options is an offensive option.

He said it was possible to survive a defensive war.

I don't see trying to take someone's source of Tin as anything else but aggressive.

You guys also seem to be under the impression that this is going to be instantaneous. As if making the decision is going to cause a trading post to suddenly appear with contacts with the Tin Tribes.

The Trelli already have raiders scouring the coastline for slaves. They are not going fail to discover us. They will attack
No, it's because a poster asked him how prosecuting a war with them would shake out.

None of them, because the king knew that piece of information even before AN told us in thread, so only considered options that didn't involve an offensive war.
Then why on earth do you think giving them a Causi Bellus is a good idea?

Personally to me it's as valid as any of the other options, since the salt surrounding all the other ones have completely devalued them for me. My fucks to give have been completely drained out reading the discussion surrounding our expansion vote, because it looks like people are just flailing at each other inanely. It's kinda hilarious.

But this is just my opinion that is basically not factually supported at all, since there are resource cost differences between the various options.

It was actually because I asked our war and admin advisors how we would do in a war against the Trelli in general. And since there is a major difference in how an offensive and defensive war would be prosecuted, they gave their opinions on both.

After all, if they just said 'Eh, it'll be hard, but we can take them' in answer to my question, there would have been people who would have pretty much gone 'Oh, so they aren't a big threat to us. Maybe we should be more aggressive and see if we can take them over soon'.

A tradition of games as a surrogate for actual warfare is nice tbh.

We are not declaring war by building a Trading Post. Under that definition, we'd be fighting an offensive war anytime anyone tried to conquer us.

Use EU4 terms. It's an offensive war if you declare war. It's a defensive war if they declare war, even if they have a valid casus belli.
