We should have to expect to send at least a secondary war mission next turn unless we get really lucky or the marches decide on a preemptive strike.
They seem to be operating as an effective hedge trimmer, I'm not concerned that they will be overwhelmed. One reason is that they are not dealing with western nomads at all, see stillbirth of the Metal Nomads faction. Two, is that the tribes sound like they are just moving in. If we hear tell of a Martial Hero then it will be time to be concerned, but next turn should be safe unless that happens.

I see only one way to get rid of nomad attacks.

Trees everywhere. Good luck getting your horses through that!

We should start expanding immediately.

Hmm maybe it is a good thing that we are getting more nomads because it could mean more martial innovation and I don't know about you guys but the Xoh must be really feeling the heat right now there primary agriculture practice is very water intensive and they do not even have the land needed to expand there fields if this drought continues for a few more turns the xoh could be finished

The last update tells us that we have already started. It'll take a long time for our Marches to plant enough trees for it to be an effective anti-nomad measure, but they'll get there eventually.

The Xoh would have to go through the other Lowland powers to get to us. They are not any sort of immediate threat.

Nah.

They're too much like cockroaches. They'll just go through another metamorphosis and continue to survive. It's kinda funny to watch actually.

They will never be a threat as they are now and if they do resurge well the whole sacrifice children thing should be more than enough of a reason go to war.
It's basically a military checkpoint, as intended. It can't really grow given its environment.
If we expand black soil can we begin to make the bad lands fertile and if so do we have enough half exiles to increase black soil production?

SMT also heavily borrowed.

It is fascinating reading, in small dosages.

I did read Silmarillion as a child, because I was a fan of Tolkien and felt like I had to.
It was among the most tedious readings for me.

Kaballah is sometimes headache inducing.
I recently reread all of Tolkien's stuff for precisely that reason.

the area has too many heavy metals, and probably lacks the plants to retain black soil for long enough to grow the plants that would retain the black soil.

I'll be glad if they come to us for aid.

Not particularly, mostly focused around river and they can't get them to extend very far past that. They primarily use the trees as a form of bocage.
Expanding Black Soil production would probably help with this, though. As would doing the Dam so that we develop the ability to make Dams elsewhere.

@tenchifew The Silmarillion is literally the best of all his books.

Without The Greater Good, their traits don't benefit us nearly as much. They act as an Expansive trade power, where they are the most convenient place to trade in the region and thus get a big flow of trade goods. We are the Gateway trade power, where we sit on terrible terrain for trade, but we have access to cultures that normally never meet due to hostile terrain and hostile 'terrain'(i.e. Nomads)
We're getting something like four Saltern expansions out of our new trait. That's worth a LOT. People are bemoaning the loss of efficiency in recovering stability, but the fact is that the returns from our new trait for a single turn more than compensates for the loss of efficiency.

This is a REALLY REALLY good trait for the guys with the saltern and snails. I expect we would have developed it if we spent a few more mains on trade actions.

Not really. Despite the drought, we are still doing well with Economy 4.

You...

You keep looking for comparisons between Tolkien and us...
I do, but this has nothing to do with that. This is a discussion on the nature of various cosmologies. My repeated attempts to characterize our civ are nothing more than a joke.

Also, the gateway approach to this trait is even better than the crossroads trait, as it enhances our ability to monopolize goods. This reduces the likelihood that the strife et. al that occurs when other people selling similar goods enter our sphere will occur.

And we see with this trait how monopolies become the optimum. The more we have a hold over the things like salt and dye the more powerful our trait becomes and the more ridiculous the Overflow becomes.
When we get wine going as an export things are going to get interesting. I wonder if Drunk Lowlanders are worse than normal Lowlanders?

@Academia Nut is the ??? trade good opium?
That's a strategic good so it could be that or tin.

The one big downside to losing Greater Good is that festivals are capped at 2 Stab. Our best golden age-trigger is proclaim glory now, which is more inefficient. Still more efficient that Grand Sacrifice without the trade bonuses though.

@Academia Nut After this megaproject is over, is there the possibility of building another Grand Temple or similar structure? Some of the arguments I've seen have been 'we can put x in another Temple at place y.' Would we need to expand a particular holy site a bunch of times or could we just build another temple?

It might also be wine ;)

But seriously, we need to get opium so we can become the local luxury/drug lords. Wine, opium, salt, dye. (All the world before our eye.)

Read the description for Great Temple, it seems quite explicit to me.

Great Temple - With the ability to cut larger and larger blocks of stone and still shape it precisely, fantastically larger complexes to the gods and spirits can be raised (1/5-7? action commitment, -1 Econ and Art per action)
