Mari's Uplift Exfiltration:

Itachi's eyes are on Goketsu right now, and Noburi is a poor liar.
We'll wait a day or two, then send Mari a ciphered message to exfiltrate our team.

Uplift is unlikely to get more than 12 hours of head start. to many eyes are on uplift.
1-2 hours is enough time to skywalk above the clouds and vanish beyond visual range in an ~untrackable direction.
So Mari can just grab Noburi+Yuno and vanish into the night. neat.

As a bonus, we want to maximise our resources and visibly break ties with leaf.
This could be any combination of "take everyone we care about", and "burn bridges on our way out"

"take people we care about" is tricky. the more people we bring, the more firepower(and chakra!) we have. but most of the people we might bring are loyal leaf nin. also, taking half of a group(extended Goketsu, Snowglobe, ect) suggests that we might care about the other half.

"burn bridges" is tricky. any obvious treachery that gets noticed cuts into our 12-hour head start. It would be really nice to steal the Uzumaki sealing vault, murder Ritsuo, ect, but doing so without immediately raising the alarm is probably hard.

Ultimately, I'm in favour of waiting two days, then dumping this in the lap of Mari, renowned infiltration expert.
She can decide who else it's safe to bring, and what(if any) bonus objectives to do on the way out.
I like this. She is also a master of genjutsu and can keep an eye on Noburi (I know some people were worried Itachi might try to secretly genjutsu nobs.)

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

Strength of the Storm was taught to Yuno, written up and put into the vault, etc., right?
It's in the vault. You don't monitor her training, but there's no obvious reason she wouldn't learn it.

@Paperclipped I understand that naruto folded due to past trauma from Itachi prime, but wouldn't the shadow clone's lack of red eyes prevent this trauma from triggering fully?
You'd have to ask Naruto about that. Really, you seeing as much of that encounter as you did is already stretching QM policy.

To clarify, when you were forming that PONWOG, were you thinking of it in terms of "how the rest of Team Uplift can go missing without Leaf stopping them", or in terms of "how the rest of Team Uplift can go missing without Leaf or the Akatsuki stopping them"? Because the concern under discussion is that we might need to evade newly-installed Akatsuki surveillance; not that "going missing" is in itself difficult.

I was not thinking about Akatsuki in particular.

Next relocation, I want to visit the magic chakra water cave. Being cut off from Leaf's chakra means it might be a huge help to our research rate, with or without Noburi.
Did we get the info about this cave from one of the Orochimaru lootboxes? Sorry, I can't remember.

Since we need Primordial Sealing right now, and Biosealing is confirmed to be its own stat, and the logic behind that implies MS is likely to be its own stat, then DoB is very much a large positive (since it applies to all of 'em).
There is one thing we should consider before losing SSA: Army of One. It's (probably?) easier to make all the AoO variants we want to make while we have SSA. (Right? I haven't run the numbers TBH.)

See, I was pushing for that for a dozen updates. Now, knowing sand is one of their best information Network locations? I'm more concerned going there
I wonder if we can use Jiraya's network to get information on Akatsuki's network. Regardless, I guess it depends on where exactly the cave is.

The only people who know we know about the chakra water cave are ourselves and Orochimaru. Not even Naruto knows that we know about that site (and it's very likely he doesn't know about it at all, nor does anyone else in Leaf that isn't Uplift).
Does the family know about the cave? If so then we should probably consider it compromised.

the simple possibility of Itachi space-warping through them or even teleporting other Akatsuki members through.
Do we know if Kamui exists? And if so, how does it work?

Without Noburi, we may as well be at a standstill. We can't research in those conditions, not the breadth and depth needed to complete all our runic weapons and runic tools in the necessary timeframe. With the full Team Uplift at our side, we're a researching machine. Without him, we may as well give up on preventing Pain's return. If so, I recommend going off the map to a place where we won't be hunted and see if there's any forbidden lore there. If we give up on the necromancy race then we're playing the long game, hoping the world remains in one piece long enough for us to complete our research anyways. Or maybe we tell Hana what's going on and ask her to help us kidnap a Wakahisa or something, idk.
OK, I'm convinced that we need at least Noburi. But I'm concerned for what happens to the clan if we take the rest of the team. I like the idea of taking them but I want to minimize the damage to the clan. Perhaps we can leave it to Gaku as regent or something?

(If Itachi is still hanging around Leaf, sneaking intel past him would be quite tricky. We could hand Noburi an encoded letter, but Itachi could just yoink it and demand someone translate it. Even if he couldn't, the mere presence of a letter likely makes him suspicious enough to hinder exfiltration. We could tell Noburi an encoded message, that even he does not know the true meaning of until he relays it to Mari, much like Naruto's "playing around in the sand" codephrase, but I do not know if we credibly have such a system set up at this point in time.)
Itachi could well be snooping around Mari as well. I'd bet on Itachi being better at genjutsu than her.

Or, heck, 200 km farther than that, 500 km farther. Realistically, nothing stops us from going to the other end of the world entirely. We have the supplies, there's nobody we need to come in contact with, and we can still relatively easily make the return trip once we're done.
I think we should go build the Village Hidden in the Sky by the power of skytowers. It's really hard to pin-point a hidden outpost in 3d space. We can probably out-scream Kagome into letting us do it if we really try.

Edit: Can we use Scenery Clones to hide Hidden Sky even better?

to returning to Leaf to go missing.
Hmm, on the one hand going back to Leaf to then run away again gives us a chance to coordinate with the others better, but I think that overall the risk of Akatsuki catching us is too high. Once we go back to Leaf we have to be ready to defend it and not leave until Akatsuki is defeated.

IMO we go back, sanity-check with Kei, then leave a dead drop with the Toad Sages since Noburi is showing up with them every day to train.
Yeah, Kei would be sad if we ignored her (again!). Unless there's a plan that calls for an immediate message to Noburi? I think we should wait, given that Itachi is waiting at the compound.

So slightly crazy idea but what if instead of jumping all around the elemental nations we went and cut a deal with Ryugami to stay in Mist for a while?
Nah, Mist won't be able to protect us, even if they were willing to.

I like this. She is also a master of genjutsu and can keep an eye on Noburi (I know some people were worried Itachi might try to secretly genjutsu nobs.)
Woulnd't genjutsu be broken by going to the Seventh Path? It's a ninjutsu effect (sorta), so wouldn't the caster have to be nearby to maintain it?

(Sorry for the long post, but I'd rather reply to everything in one post than multi-post.)

According to snuncle it seems like Itachi can create long term compulsions, though if he needs Tsukiyomi to do it I doubt he's spamming it all the time since it damages his eyes.

It's a wide ranging attack that affects multiple people. Seems like it more produces actual sounds than changes your brain-chemistry. Which might have been considered Genjutsu back in the day (and under MoL rules!) but might not right now.

Hazō remembers Jiraiya describing it as a sonic genjutsu.

can this apply to primordial sealing too? someone else already mentioned minatosealing

No. Primordial Sealing is extremely different from regular sealing.

We could defy naruto, return to leaf, tell itachi we arent doing dimensionalism. ignore any other questions saying we don't have to answer those and walk away once he starts asking those. And mention it's rude to pull hazou away from research without any gifts as compensation for lost time

We'd be relying on Resolve against, I assume, his non-Sharingan Genjutsu. If it's a diceroll it'd be the most important diceroll we'd make for this conflict. What are the chance we succeed? Can we do anything to prep?

Yeah. The weird thing is we basically haven't done any research we wouldn't have done in absence of Akatsuki, and we haven't done dimensionalism. We haven't even made a weapon that would scare them. We could state all of that honestly.

The problem is we still really really really don't want to meet the Akatsuki right now after how they've shown they'll act. Asuma told the truth* and then they murdered him and used the village's inevitable reaction to extort everyone and wrap the village around their thumb. Fuck them.

I would happily suggest putting all the above in a letter, addressed to Akatsuki and Naruto both.

*stated from Hazō's perspective

I initially parsed this as "DoB is worth less than SSA (for Primordial Sealing)", which is not true (we get more number immediately by buying DoB and the buff stunt for it right now). I'm not really sure what you're trying to argue if that's not what you meant.
Certainly. IMO, we should wait to buy DoB and the expected loss to research progress from waiting is smaller because we are limited to one track. Going missing, our timelines are longer. We can rush less because Naruto cannot call us back. We do not know what fallout going missing will have. DoB accelerates our research more meaningfully on short to medium timelines than on long timelines. Not saying to never get it but saying we can afford to wait until we know Noburi makes it out safe.

At Sealing 51, we have eff Sealing 75. Dropping SSA puts us down to eff 63. We were always going to raise Sealing to 59 to max the PS cap. Finishing notes XP and leveling to 56 now is inefficient but narratively locks us in to qualifying for stunts gated by eff Sealing 80.

Genjutsu 79 vs (Resolve 62 + (Alertness 40/3) = 76)

I'm just assuming what his genjutsu is here since he's also good at so many other things, only so much pyramid/XP to go around. Pretty close roll honestly, at neutral dice and FP parity Hazou loses by one shift. Notably invokes are declared ahead of time and Itachi has no reason to think he would even need to invoke against a chump like Hazou, so Hazou may win because he actually bothers using his FP

Good enough for me!

That means people like Shinji can learn it, just to confirm?
Assuming you're giving Gōketsu ninja free access to the vault, sure.

@Paperclipped @eaglejarl @Velorien

If Noburi leaves Konoha to join Hazō, does he think that Konoha would be able to secure another Wakahisa's services for a mass Sannin clone assault in the event of a Rift assault?
Hazō has no clue about current Leaf-Mist relations and whether ninja loans are viable, nor how Mist would react to learning about the rift (assuming Naruto was willing to get them involved).

[X] Action Plan: Take The Fam And Go
Wordcount: >300
  • Tell Noburi we'll be back in a little over two weeks.
    • Reassure Noburi that we genuinely haven't done anything wrong, and we've stared down Itachi before.
      • Tell him to be firm, don't let Itachi steal anything before we get back.
  • Sanity/Optimize with K/K/S
  • Start heading toward that chakra-pool-cave in Wind(?)
  • ~2 days later, send a ciphered message to Mari
    • "We're going missing. anyone not with us is potential leverage. sometime in the next 8 days, exfiltrate team Uplift and whoever else you find it wise to include."
      • More people/resources is good, but only if they don't blow the exfiltration.
      • Burning bridges and cutting ties is good, but clan Goketsu and uplift projects collapsing is bad. Looking like we care about anything left behind is also bad. It's a balancing act, figure it out.
      • Some possible ways to extract value and cut ties. use judgement. only do these if they don't ruin the exfiltration.
        • exfiltrate ~all Goketsu ninja with you
        • exfiltrate Tenten
        • kidnap Ino ("kidnap", so remaining Yamanaka are held blameless.)
        • loot the Uzumaki clan vault, especially of seals.
        • loot anything else of value that won't immediately blow your exfiltration.
        • kill Ritsuo
        • steal the Monkey Scroll
      • Include some SCSAs with the message, to conceal their skytowers when camping.
      • Include notes from Kagome on how to destroy any sensitive materials in the Black Archive(Kagome's Bedroom)
      • Consider burning/stealing our Jutsu scrolls.
        • Clanmates have had plenty of time to learn them, and Itachi is likely to search the compound.
  • Research:
    • As time allows, finish Capacitor Rune and read TH notes.
  • Dogs
    • Let Cannai know what's up.
    • Ask for an Elite bodyguard dog
    • Offer contracts to all the dogs from the last raid.

My understanding is that was the case, barring Mío, but the official post on who has access to what hasn't been update in a while.

Would it be unreasonable to assume that the new ninjutsu have the same level of access as everything else we have? I could totally see it having been restricted to chūnin or above, but given that we shared PEA freely…

Anywho. May I humbly request a ruling on this topic when time permits? It's causing me a bit of stress.

Ninjutsu:

This list includes who knows about the listed ninjutsu. The list of who actually can cast the ninjutsu is smaller in almost every case.
  • All Pangolin ninjutsu (Pangolin Conditioning Jutsu (not a clan secret), Ghost Scales, Pantokrator's Hammer, Pangolin Flash, Exploring Tongue, Pangolin Earth Armor)
    • Everyone
  • Orochimaru's ninjutsu scrolls, including Rapid Rejuvenation
    • Everyone
Clan members must share their ninjutsu into the clan vault (and Sage praise the clan secrets laws that make having such a vault be a not terrible idea). Exact ninjutsu collected in this manner are TBD.

I'm not sure you fully get how trauma works. It isn't a full checklist, and it isn't a summation to 100% trauma trigger. Things can be fully triggering without being all the exact same, especially in the presence of the person who inflicted the trauma.

And that's without analysis that Naruto was not fully affected in fact, and that that case would look worse than what we saw.

It's pretty likely that Itachi will search/loot the entire Goketsu compound once we go missing. I don't perticularly want to give him SotS and PEA, but I really don't want to let him know that Mari has WWB.

I'd rather burn down the Jutsu scroll stash, tbh. Almost all of it will live on in the remaining Goketsu, but it protects it from Itachi and sends a message that we don't care about the Goketsu left behind.

Fair.

Also, I just remembered this passage:
If I'm not dead, I'm gone. Maybe that "transcendent but broken" thing happened and I decided I've become too much of a danger to my loved ones. If that's the case, trust my judgement and don't try to find me. More likely, the unchained brilliance of Ami was enough to come up with some sort of unprecedented uberplot, or maybe to recognise some Dragon-tier threat or opportunity from clues any sane person would miss. Whatever it is, I am literally unable to imagine it as I am now, much less predict why I would disappear without getting you involved.
I have a couple of ideas as to what she's doing:
  1. What if she predicted that we'd have to go missing and so left unconspicuously in order to be able to join us later? If so, we should find some way to get in touch. Maybe find some Schelling point of contact.
  2. What if she figured out that Akane has EM, and was kidnapped rather than killed?

Also, on the topic of Akane,
Azure shook her head. "Not if we think creatively. We don't need to acquire Hazō directly to access the bulk of the value he represents. See, I was reviewing some of the reports from our informants, and I think that in the wake of a recent sealing failure, there may be some weak points for us to exploit…"
I wonder if these people are the ones behind what happened to Akane. Does anybody remember what sealing failure they're talking about? Is it the one at the old compound?
