I'll make mostly the same comments I did to ROTP's plan:
  • Put the Hagoromo section first
  • Get rid of the details of why we're tired
Why do you want to put the Hagoromo first? Frankly, I'd like to make sure he's in an extremely good mood first.

I think that the 'why we're tired' section is important for the tone so I'll be keeping it.

[X] Action Plan: Reflection (without a mirror)

I see a cute Ino scene, I vote

Get rid of the details of why we're tired

I disagree: without some explanation just saying "I'm tired" is too vague. What is Hazou tired of? People dying in our even as we make progress on saving more lives? Not being able to 3D seal yet despite all of his training? Is Hazou depressed?

It needs some quantifiers that Hazou is tired of the Hagaromo being bigots for no discernible, rational reason.

IMO my original plan (Reflection, linked here) is even cuter as getting our girlfriend a beautiful, gem-encrusted mirror which is made out of corundrum and therefore won't break (callback to her sobbing on a Skytower talking about how broken the world is) is even cuter.
Actually, I wanted to ask about that. Is this an Earthshaped gift, xor is it something Hazou's outsourcing to various civilians?

Would you also vote for

[] Action Plan: Reflection

please? It has the macerators in there, too. (Unless you don't like the idea, in which case, could I tweak it?

Earthshaped all the way. I'll probably add a sanity check.

Voting for this because I want to see what happens if EJ doesn't reopen voting.

I want to talk to Ino before Asuma to get her ideas. Would an endorsement from Mari (to give her the mirror) work for you?
Oh right, the Hagoromo section. I'd forgotten about that, my mistake.

Hm. It'd be interesting to have the general sanity-check before everything, then the Ino section, then the Asuma section. But your way works too (though you'd have to explain to her where we're sourcing it).

@charlesrwest, @faflec, @Dictator4Hire, @Noumero, @Egg Shavings, @RandomOTP, I've removed the no mirror plan as the current incarnation of Reflection axes it if Mari/Kei don't approve. Let me know if this works for you, or if I can tweak it so it does.

(If Ino asks us where we got it, we can shrug enigmatically.)
[X] Action Plan: Reflection
Word count: <300
  • Sanity checks (Mari/Kei, offscreen)
    • Asuma: plan Earthshaping, Hagoromo conversations.
      • How can we benefit without breaking the economy?
        • Limit output?
        • Sell only to Tower?
        • Exclusive rights to sell Earthshaped goods?
    • Ino:
      • Discuss Hagoromo with her?
      • Okay to give her an Earthshaped mirror?
  • Ino
    • Plan a private date.
      • Be there for her. Let her lead - fashion and gossip? Grief and loss?
    • Would she be a sounding board for a clan head issue?
      • Maintaining OPSEC…
      • Explain Asuma's Hagoromo suggestions.
      • Will they ever leave you alone?
        • They'll always have plausible deniability.
        • Would it matter if you stopped?
      • How do you break the cycle?
      • Discuss Ruka, reconciliation.
    • Give her a mirror - corundum shell around reflective metal, jeweled handle.
  • Asuma:
    • Request topic-appropriate security.
      • Provide samples, calculations, projected economic impacts of ES 50.
        • Highlight unlimited gold/jewels, novel materials, increased ore production/quality.
      • We want to profit - our insights/training/time are distinctly Goketsu - but mostly, we want to help Leaf.
      • We've learned our lesson: we're coming to him.
      • What should we do?
    • Hagoromo:
      • We'll never like Ritsuo, but we're tired.
        • Destroying Ritsuo's knife helped nobody.
        • The plays helped nobody.
        • It's always more hate.
    • Ruka:
      • Is her punishment mostly about Akane? If so, it seems disproportionate.
        • It's effectively death. She didn't kill Akane.
      • Suggest long-term till'n'fills supervised by KEI/clanless nin. Hatred doesn't withstand exposure.
      • Does he think Ruka can change?
    • Reconciliation:
      • Goketsu/Hagoromo need to see each other as full people.
        • Reference the evolution of Noburi/Neji's relationship.
      • Assign Goketsu-Hagoromo teams long-term till'n'fills requiring cooperation. Neutral (Sarutobi? Inuzaka?) leaders.
      • Are there more flexible Hagoromo? We want to see their clan as complex, multifaceted.
  • Sealing Research:
    • Next Minato seal/Directional Explosives.
    • Eschew prep, use SSA, reroll -9/-12.
  • Offscreen/misc.

I'd rather not keep Ino in the dark too long regarding the mirror's origin but it's good enough for me

Use corundum instead of sand. Much harder, it's a 9 on the Mohs scale. Sand is around 6 or 7.
Why does this matter? It's a incendiary weapon, not a waterjet cutter.

3. The macerator is used in typical fashion while keeping the protective plate, discharging a cloud of extremely hot material at speeds somewhat greater than a traditional flamethrower. This does not explode due to a lack of combustible material to detonate and the degree of spread can be modified by changing the grain of sand used.
Keeping the plate in place during combat use is probably not going to work in terms of action economy. You have to draw the plate, draw the seal, place it on the plate, and activate the seal in one round. I'm unsure exactly what the action economy of that is, but I'd guess that's 2 Standards and a Supplemental. Which is not possible. Even if it's one Standard and 2 Supplemental, that means no Sub, which is very bad.

A seal meant to be used as a reloadable flamethrower so that genin can used them as much as needed and potentially have multiple (spook target with explosive seal and then spray target until it dies becomes SOP against chakra beasts).
I'd say you're better off giving up on the reloadability of the seal and aiming for a Taijutsu attack with a +6 bonus and Weapon:2 or 3.

Why are most of the proposed plans intent on telling everyone that Earthshaping can make you very rich? I literally don't understand this, we are giving up our wealth advantage for nothing. This is extremely sad-making and frustrating. Hivemind can't keep its damn mouth shut

Why use a flamethrower when you can use a flamethrower that will also cut through your enemy?
Because it won't do that. Making corundum sand is difficult and a waste of Hazou's time, for literally no benefit whatsoever.

EDIT: Just a little comparison, exit velocity of macerator is 20 m/s, about 45 mph. Exit velocity of a sandblaster (which notably don't cut) 500 mph. We got a ways to go before the cutting power of the sand is relevant.

Yes, we could go and sell gemstones and iron secretly, and make us very rich by comparison to if we'd told Asuma. But the trade-offs of that, beyond making Asuma very much happier with us, being worried about Earthshaping being not a clan secret so questions need to be avoided, possibly getting Tower-approved shinies which may or may not be more valuable when compared to the riches we'd get...

It's the fact that we can use Earthshaping far more openly, without the concern of having to hide from the Tower. Want to make a bazillion telescopes? We don't have to hide from Asuma, he will work with us to make Leaf's scouting forces way better. Want to equip all of Leaf's forces with weapons? Tell Asuma, he will approve and get the smiths working on giving everyone a bazillion kunai. Want to crash Rock's economy? Asuma will publicly dance Kagome's butt-wiggle dances on top of the literal tons of gems we will use to bury Iwa's economy with. And possibly literally bury the Tsuchikage with.

My opinion is that the benefit given to us by sharing Earthshaping with Asuma for being more effectively able to mass-produce everything to uplift Leaf is worth the losses of not getting as rich, and being able to support Leaf using that wealth.

I don't think Hazō's characterization supports responding to Asuma this way, but if I had my way we would say this:

As it stands, we see the Hagoromo as vicious reactionary fools who claim to care about people but only do so when it's convenient, more loyal to the idea of Leaf than the people who actually live there. I expect they see us as greedy undeserving fools who have no loyalty to anything at all and will cheerfully destroy Leaf in the pursuit of our ambitions.

Naturally, I think they're wrong about us, and I begrudgingly concede that people whose opinions I respect believe I am wrong about them.

Working together sounds plausible and being forced to face the humanity in each other sounds plausible, but I don't think the school is the right fit. We're biased against each other's ideology, and in that setting increased contact may breed increased conflict.

What about charitable works? You know us better than we know each other: are there projects they would appreciate that align with both of our visions of "doing good"?
