I don't know a good way to say this, so I'll be blunt: @Velorien had what Brits and their stiff upper lips refer to as "a sudden and unexpected interaction with a delivery lorry" yesterday. His sweetheart was able to log into QM chat using his account in order to let me know what was going on, but he's going to be unavailable to write until medical technology improves substantially. I have his partial first draft for the update so I'll finish it and have it out probably tomorrow, maybe Sunday. After that, I'm afraid we're going on indefinite hiatus.

I considered trying to continue things on my own as I'm sure he would have wanted, but between my business, my studies (turns out flight school has hella homework, who knew??), and caring for my newly-arrived kids I just don't have the energy. (They are fur children, not humans, but adopting all 9 members of a litter just because they're staring at you with big sad eyes from the side of the road is still a major challenge. Unfortunately, there's only one shelter near me and they are full up so these little love bugs are staying with me.)

I'm extending Velorien's draft in order to wrap up as many plot threads as possible, but I'm not going to get all of them, I'm afraid. It will be a bit of a montage and I'll have Hazō finish the current seal backlog (ARS, MARS, STARS, goo bombs), marry Ino and Akane, publicly humiliate and depose Hagoromo Ritsuo, and finish Harumitsu's training. If there are other plot threads that people care a lot about, let me know and I'll try to work them in.

Sorry for the lack of notice on this one, but you can see how it is. Seriously, what are the odds of getting smacked by a delivery truck full of Easter eggs??? Granted, the driver really should not have decided to give his daughter a driving lesson in the truck on the streets of London. (Also, who the hell gives a 12-year-old driving lessons????) Velorien's sweetheart said the driver has been arrested; I hope he goes away for a long damn time.

The part of this that has me the most frustrated is that literally 15 hours earlier I had told Velorien to be careful today because I cast his horoscope and Mars was ascendant in the House Of Health at the same time that the Sun, Mars, and Pluto were in syzygy. Seriously, who walks across a London street with their nose stuck in a book while Mars is ascendant in the House of Health and in syzygy with the Sun and Pluto???

Anyway. Like I said, update is out tomorrow or Sunday (April 3rd) and then we're on hiatus indefinitely. You have been the best audience that anyone could ask for and I would like to thank you all for the wonderful community you've enabled me to be part of for the last 6 years.


EDIT: I think I didn't make this ridiculous enough, because a few people are still uncertain. Yes, this is an April Fool's prank. Velorien is fine and the quest is not going on hiatus.​

The april fools joke was... unfortunate. I really did believe that Veiloren was hit by a truck carrying easter eggs (maybe those plastic things which do need distribution trucks too) because the driver had the insanity to let a 12 year old take the wheel like you would normally let them do with a tractor out in the field. And I was honestly sad. Sometimes stray dogs are pregnant and over crowded animal shelters will sometimes if they don't have enough fosters try to set the person who tries to drop off the dog as a foster if they are willing as they can't take pet due to overcrowding. When it came to the horoscope I thought EarlJarl was superstitious. I was not suspicious of you guys so any flippant tone sailed straight over my head. But thanks for ruining my day thinking Veiloren was seriously injured in a car crash which shattered his hand or something such that you weren't going to try to write any time soon. It's been a somber day.

  • Clarifying the terms of the deal:
    • Tone: these elements are ambiguous. We want to ensure we're on the same page.
    • Orochimaru gets exclusive access to the Dragon parts for two weeks each. He only holds one at a time.
      • The others may be non-destructively investigated by other parties until the deal concludes.
      • Orochimaru will provide five packets of notes/information of equivalent value to those currently offered if any parts are damaged during his investigations. The remnants will then be returned and the deal terminated. Equivalency to be determined by Tower-appointed arbiter.
      • If parts are destroyed, as above, but ten packets.
    • Happy to negotiate destructive/damaging research as it comes up; however, we feel strongly that all of Leaf's researchers should have an opportunity to investigate the parts before they're damaged or destroyed.
    • The Goketsu will swap parts upon request with a 24 hour maximum delay.
    • Can negotiate how many parts are in his possession at once. We'd like…
      • Useful jutsu - ideally, something that reduces the need for sleep. (Very busy, not enough hours in the day.)
      • Consultation on the Great Seal.
      • (If not already present) Snake inclusion in the Summoning Network.
      • Help setting up a 7th path chakra farm for Noburi to drain - remote refuels.
      • Any information about Pain's ritual which may be pertinent to the Great Seal/3D sealing.
      • Introductory biosealing notes. [OOC: enough information to have a broad mechanical idea of what stats/stunts are involved.]
    • If more parts at a time are negotiated, all parts returned if any are damaged/destroyed, damage/destruction penalties are per part.
  • Offscreen:
    • Research ARS, following SOP (prep days, etc.)
    • Ask Kumokogo if the Dragons have acted differently since we killed one.
    • Find out if we need to adopt SSSSS members.

Is basically everything I want. I personally would consider combat jutsu viable as an option but is not a deal breaker

Any particular reason you're voting for my plan and not any of the others? I personally feel that it's the strongest (totally unbiased) but I'm curious as to what differentiates it in your eyes.

@Oneiros and @MMKII, I have ~100 words left that I plan on using for Something (TM) which covers the time until we catch up with the most recent update. Maybe sealing research, I think ARS was what we'd settled on. I don't imagine it will be anything controversial but if there are things you either a) want very badly or b) would change your vote if included, then please let me know.

I do not expect to update this plan much in the next 16 hours. After that I will try to be around.

I don't have time to really check the thread this weekend so as far as my vote goes you could literally spend those 100 words on "Hazou Gouketsu-nee-Kurosawa and the Quest to Obtain Copious Amounts of Questionable Psychedelic Substances from the Drug Dog: Part II (It's Time To Go To Ichiraku Ramen!): The Movie: The Game" and it wouldn't change my vote much.


So long as they still have Neil Patrick Harris, yknow?

I can probably describe most of the first two acts and the card-drafting mechanics.

Sealing research is cool. Wouldn't mind work on finding more summons for any one of the boys or getting permission to go on a trip (any of mist, squirrel scroll or, ritual site would be on my list)

But mostly cool with whatever

I figure it'll be sealing research - a day is not a huge quantity of time and I also might throw in 'EJ writes fukkin' something' at the end.

Actually, @eaglejarl, if we submit a one-scene plan (finishing Orochimaru negotiations) plus some sealing research (probably offscreen?) do you feel like you have enough material to write to bring us up to present day?
 
Any chance we can do a subtle signal to Mari to confirm that this deal is OK (I imagine we would have a preset like "X - good deal, go for it")?

I imagine she's going to want us to accept quickly to get Oro to go away, same as Noburi, if she reacts at all. She was frozen in the last Oro moment. Plus, I feel like she's not going to have a conceptual grasp on how valuable research like this is (since she isn't a researcher in either field), beyond just knowing Sannin notes are probably useful. I wouldn't oppose including it, but I don't think it'll do much. I think it comes down to Hazou at the moment

He did mention he had an idea for MARI he wanted to incorporate in a chapter if possible. Could leave room for that?
 
Alright, I'm just gonna write up a plan since most of these aren't quite to my tastes.

[X] Action Plan: To Sleep? Perchance not

  • By and large, Hazou is amenable to the deal as it stands, with one possible addition:
    • He is willing to give Orochimaru one of the claws to keep in exchange for a technique or method to reduce the necessity of sleep.
    • Reason: There is not nearly enough time in the day to do all he wishes, particularly research, and Hazou gets the impression Orochimaru would feel similar, and so have an option to deal with this. Perhaps a jutsu or technique to reduce the amount needed, if nothing else.
  • Proceed with sealing research, prioritizing ARS. Stick to SOP, including prep days.
