"Brokk," Gloin greets, "What did you find?"
He releases a harsh exhale

No, the only real thing that's caught both your attention and imagination is the idea of True Transmutation.
You go to bed with foolish dreams of turning base steel into shining bars of Gromril.
Maybe steel into Gromril isn't viable, but perhaps Gromril into Adamant was an example of True Transmutation? It
is a permanent transformation; and it
is a transformation of an awesome metal into an even-
more-awesome metal.
But I can see why "steel into Gromril" is the idle daydream Snorri had. It's the same sort of thing thing. Gromril is gold standard. Except when gold is the gold standard. Or oathgold is the gold standard. Or... heh. Anyway.
Thankfully for you, there is an Elf from Cothique you can get more info from,

"I am speaking in abstract yes. Among us Brana, the Stonebound live closest to your homes, adopt many more of your customs, incorporate more of your beliefs, and take heed of your words and teachings more readily than most. To take on the trappings and traditions of another, this is another form of consumption no? Some of my kindred say it is a consequence of their proximity, yet I believe this path is false. For there are flocks who live just as close as the Stonebound, and yet they do not take on such traits, nor do they birth Brana who wield the Gold. They follow our ways, and though they take on some traits of the Mountain, they do not do so actively as the Stonebound do. Time will tell, I suppose."
I wonder... what would happen if some Brana lived among Elves? Or lived along the coast?
Would they pick up a Ghyran tradition, or a different-Azyr tradition? Become more water-y rather than more metal-y?
Or if they lived in the Forests rather than the mountains; perhaps they'd pick up some Ghyran. ... Actually. That'd be very similar to the Forest Dragons of Laurelorn and Athel Loren, wouldn't it. The way that the Dragons became more in tune with the magical forests and all.
Another thing I thought about the Brana's description of adaptation or, rather, comprehension is that... it's like they understood and comprehended a culture and nature that was like stone and metal. And because of that, gained a nature or magic related to that. Er, that is. Magic can be a mindset and matter of knowledge, right? Well, because they lived in a way that encouraged a mindset and they learned more of metalworking too, all this happened.
Devouring hearts and impressive beasts... that probably is a shortcut to this sort of absorption of Wind and magic. Hm. I wonder what they might gain if they ate a Magma Dragon or something. Aqshy-attuned griffons, heh.

Burudin:] No:
I'm curious as to what is going on with Yorri, and I want to hear more of his... 'story/quest arc' so to speak.
Also, going it our own way might be interesting. That is... we just keep doing the things we are doing, raising our apprentices and teaching journeymen and masters and keeping Rune Trials going, and researching Runes and crafting things, and being our usual self. It's... mostly just about being Dwarfy in that way where you follow in the steps of your master and teach your apprentices and just do the best
craft you can do, and let the chips fall where they may from that. It's not about seeking an umbrella from a big organization in order to further spread, or shelter or legitimize, your ideas or politics. It's just... about keeping on being yourself.
Which, well, you can do in the Burudin or outside of the Burudin. I'm just expressing a preference of "Eh, if it came to political motivations or prestige boosts from joining? I'd rather not join for that as a reason." Being able to look at a powerful and prestigious organization and go "Naw I'm good, I'll just keep doing my own thing" is appealing.
It's like... if somebody gave an argument of, "Since this is how Dwarf culture works, we could get more of our influence in and spread this way" I'd be curious about seeing the other side of it; of being able to make a statement of "Actually, you don't
have to join the Burudin to get anything/everything done." It's not even about making your own group or whatever, except maybe by default or by accident; it's more just keeping doing what you do and if that results in people feeling freer in how they act and what they do as Runesmiths, well, that might be interesting. In other words, less... monumentality amongst Runesmith culture? Less 'this one political group has the most influence'? More freedom and variety? Without pushing it or anything.
Just simply remaining a weird hermit up in the north, and being an object of admiration by our sheer productivity and skill of craftsmanship and such. Lead by admiration/aspiration/example. Rather than lead by command.
Though who knows about what'll happen with the Burudin. Maybe Snorri would moderate them, maybe he'd learn interesting things, maybe he'd get into rivalries, who knows. Maybe Yorri would be more likely to talk of things, maybe less.
As for the workshop stuff... I don't actually know lol. I'll just refrain from that, though the vote on that seems pretty settled.
