On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

What is the most common Runesmith take the mixture of Workshop and Home anyways? I can't imagine that many Runesmiths would want to be far from their Workshop.
Workshop and home are generally one and the same for Runesmiths, but not always.
Out of curiosity, is the intimacy aspect part of what more conservative Runelords would have a problem with letting Runesmiths lodge in our workshop?
I don't understand this question.

The research that they give are what's amazing. Not the runes we've currently got. Like the fate runes, or the repair and space runes
Yes? And are we gonna trade those away? We haven't with grimnirs rune. And I doubt we will do it with the fate rune.
Our repertoire of special runes is small right now and being able to widen it is good. As an example, without a trade we would not have been able to make our cool armor. So getting better runes let's us make better shit.

For you specifically? If we assume that a member wielded their soft power to such a degree...

It depends on the member specifically of course, someone like Alric Thungnisson has more weight than a regular Burudin member, but their baseline is certainly Runelord level.
So working from that baseline, first off their Hold's Runesmith community will essentially ignore you and any points, innovations and proposals you make. Were you a Master Runesmith you'd be better off moving to another Hold far away from them otherwise you'd find the knock on effects of having your Guild essentially abandoning you affect your business and ability to operate. Contracts dry up because Runesmiths say you aren't trustworthy, parents wont let you apprentice their kid, friends only speak to you in secret that sort of thing. As it is, for a Dwarf of your station, they'll make platitudes and grumble about possibilities, but you won't see anything of real substance from them.

Same goes for the surrounding region, unless there's another member to counter their influence, but not as much as in the member's own Hold.

Dwarfs can get and have been that petty, but Runesmiths, in general, tend to self-select so that those individuals don't get the chance to piss off a Burudin member to that level. Not that it's ever gotten that bad from what you know. Usually the offender offers recompense or takes the first chance to prove themselves they can get before it gets that bad. It takes a special kind of stubborn to ignore the weight of that much shame, or a comparable level of influence.
Has anyone ever annoyed Snorri to the point he black listed them like that? Say some runesmith calling themself a Snorrist and using that as an excuse to mass produce junk.

Fine. Fine. If the idiots are choosing to be cheeky and finagle a way to stay in your home, they're going to at least pay for the privilege! It will require a good deal of work, and cost a pretty penny both in time and effort, but if it's going to be done, then it's going to be done right. Your southern colleagues may grumble and growl, but when have they not? You're over a thousand years old, they can suck on a particularly porous piece of pumice for all you care! Unlocks further options.

Gain title, Member of the Burudin. Options Unlocked. Yorri is too plagued by his mysterious old hurts to see the truth. Accept Alric's offer, and join the Burudin.

Guess we're going to be wrangling cats(rude prickly and ornery) and consolidating power....
This look like a blatant power grab and will become messy.
(With this many runesmiths beholden to us.... Ughhhhhh.....)

I mean i can see the appeal. Considering we can already see the beginnings of an ass backwards political bureaucracy.
But with this, we might change that direction.

ALso we need to speak to the Ancestors about the Old Ones.

Honestly I don't really care either way on the Burudin vote. But I really don't feel that Embrace is a good idea. We can make a dorm for runesmiths in the Okraz. Putting them in the Workshop is going to put us on a collision course with traditionalists because even the appearance of putting other Runesmiths under your sway can gain the Wrath of some Runelords. We don't need that.

Damn, Burundi vote is neck and neck but the workshop vote does not look good...
Well that just means we're going to hit the ground running.
Yorri is going to freak out because we brought the politics he's so despised back to his doorstep. I hope he doesn't stop visiting.
Ehh, yorri gonna leave in a bit anyway. He's not permanently based in our home, he just likes snowing in and hitting us with troll tongue. If it really bothers him that much just being in the vicinity then he will pack up and... Dunno, find the lizardmen. Or something like that.

That has literally never stopped us before. Not when we made the chain forger free to learn nor when the Prothese rune got the same treatment.
*Neither* of the two could have the appearance of power grabs because we didn't even have the appearance of trying to steer those whom we taught towards Snorri's views or methods. Snorri strictly taught the runes. He pointedly did not screen those that he taught the rune of prosthesis past making sure they had the skill for it. He didn't care about their ideology.

Outright having the runesmiths that come to Snorri stay in his workshop and outright formalizing the process will make it far easier to accuse Snorri of attempting to gain undue sway over other Runesmiths.

Oh soulcake, remember the days you thought you would never have over 10k posts and you updated every week?

Also congrats on making another contested vote it's 70 to 70 by my tally before my vote

Personally, I will trust Yorri when he is being this serious

But, through not vetting and accepting all we did make a political statement. "come you downtrodden and small of cash, here you shall find teachings and good company!" and we are the oldest rune lord in the north, our power lock is there, it's just rarely used...
