On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

My first thought about the Burudin vote is that while it does mention that joining will provide (or at least bring acknowledgment of existing) fame and prestige it doesn't mention what the group gets out of Snorri joining them. We should really think about what that might be.

We're probably the most prestigious member of the guild that could be called progressive and us joining an ancient group of conservative power brokers will have some result on the political landscape.

Edit: just to make sure nobody sees this and misses the later clarification from OP, the Burudin aren't any more conservative then the average among runelords.

- [X] Find new accommodations: In removing one problem, that being the overcrowding of your home, you have created another. Perhaps it is no concern of yours, but you will do what you can to find a way to house them now that squatting in your home is no longer an option. Unlocks further options.

As I said about the home it's getting crowed and is meant to be or home and workshop first and foremost I'd rather they had accommodations in the nearby town instead of our home.

Now only the oldest and most prestigious Runelords and very select Masters may join, for in the minds of the Guild and Burudin that is what it takes to be a member of the group.
Isn't this basically normal for dwarves? At least the age thing, it just seems like an extension of normal dwarven attitudes, not telling the beardlings how good they are so they'll work harder and all. I don't see why Yorri or anyone would find this concerning since it is a lot like things dwarves seem to do all the time.

This is not the case. They're not a group of arch-conservatives, because the conservative/radical split is as old as runesmithing is - it began with Thungni's children! They'll have the same spectrum as standard runesmiths, just vastly more skilled and experienced.

Embrace both sides it's better then joining one which can be make others see us joining their side which can point us to becoming a conservative same with the radical because I want us to be as paradoxing to the dwarves as a way to really make them use both runes and engineering to fix their problems

Fine. Fine. If the idiots are choosing to be cheeky and finagle a way to stay in your home, they're going to at least pay for the privilege! It will require a good deal of work, and cost a pretty penny both in time and effort, but if it's going to be done, then it's going to be done right. Your southern colleagues may grumble and growl, but when have they not? You're over a thousand years old, they can suck on a particularly porous piece of pumice for all you care! Unlocks further options.

Gain title, Member of the Burudin. Options Unlocked. Yorri is too plagued by his mysterious old hurts to see the truth. Accept Alric's offer, and join the Burudin.

[x] [Burudin:] No

Yeah, after that recent description joining seems like a terrible idea. The best of best aren't the best because they joined the Burudin and us staying out of it will help to prove that.

You are ignoring content by this member.

Yorri's gripe is that the Burudin has become a political creature first and a forum second. He sees members using their influence to push things as against the purpose of the group. The Burudin should be researchers, learners and pioneers; their purpose solely dedicated to furthering Runecraft. Not arguing about what the correct interpretation of the rules is, not pushing for certain reforms or arguing to stop them amongst themselves. Members shouldn't be joining for the purpose of using their newfound influence to control and coerce the Runesmith community of their Hold and region nor trying to form groups within the Burudin itself.

at least in Yorri's opinion.

And there may be a grain of truth, there were members who joined well before they became millennials, if their talent proved good enough.

A good part of your home no longer feels like it is solely yours. A significant portion of the complex has been subsumed to house and accommodate the needs of several dozen visiting Master Runesmiths, an innumerable number of Journeymen and, of course, your Retainers. While you had planned on the latter living here, especially those drawn from outside Kraka Drakk, the former was not. It was a simple result of circumstances. Khazid Okraz, for all its security and experience dealing with Runesmiths, did not possess a wealth of locations that the Masters, and now some of the Journeymen, could stow away their things with any degree of safety or practicality. Gold, reagents, tools and the like that one understandably felt cagey about entrusting to another. The solution for your part was to open rooms in your home for the sake of storage, swearing mutual oaths agreeing that nothing would be touched in exchange for the promise that the Runesmith in question wasn't a complete idiot about the things they kept inside. Paired with the large amount of time the beardlings spent learning at your feet meant that they only tended to leave your home to eat and sleep, and not even that was always the case for the latter.

You've caught out enough Dwarfs who entered their vaults to stow away their tools after a long day only to fall asleep within. Some of the fools even started bringing mattresses into their secured rooms, and effectively lived inside, only coming out to learn, eat and socialize.

A consequence of such occurrences was that the entrance gallery, long since rendered incapable of doing what you initially intended it for, now serves as a sort of gathering place, not only for the numerous Dwarfs who lodge in your home but sometimes the odd Runesmith from the rest of the Karak has wandered in here to meet with a visiting colleague. You have half a mind to grumble and growl at them to find a tavern if they want to socialize like children at a feast, but your responsibilities and their lack of screwups have made it a not-so-pressing issue. If they kept the peace and didn't make a mess of things you saw no real reason to bring an end to it.

Or you could go as far as turning the Workshop into a sprawling complex meant to serve not only as a housing area, but better serve the purpose Runesmiths learned from you. Most of their suggestions were about maximizing the throughput of Runesmiths from your home by minimizing wasted and idle time. Things like internal cafeterias, both private and public workrooms for them to practice when not learning under you.

All I'm thinking while I read this was 'A Karak in a Karak in a Karak'. We shall build Snorri's Workshop into a Karak Matryoshka. Chaos breaks Drak and finds Snorri's Villiage, they break that, and make it into Snorri's Workshop. Like levels in a dungeon-crawler. Karak-ception.
