On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Is the Durin consternation a big (or extremely big thing it seem?) only for runesmith or for the rest of the dawi too ?
for runesmiths and tangentially for the rest of the race since it will allow them to get equipment with more runes to use

edit: by more runes I mean this will probably help us figure out how to make more runes on a item somehow.

we must start flooding the rest of the dawi empire with toys to begin raising relations with the rest of the race, Ancestor God of Children's Toys we go! :V

So that's super cool. But its also only the start. That's only at the level of Rare Stuff. It seems like we could potentially do a couple of things. We can either spread where we have standing 10 in order to improve the range where we'd be considered a minor ancestor god after we die, or to improve the depth of our Ancestor Godness and go up from Minor to Mild? Medium? something like that after we die. I'm guessing being considered an Ancestor God while still alive would be the final form of such a thing, but that's probably something we'd have to be at least 2 millennia old to have a hope of pulling off.

So really we need a Master Rune of Windsight? But a regular Rune of Windsight is enough to achieve the first step.
Honestly i think it's better to release a basic rune of windsight to let other Dawi put their own spin on things, Snorri's master rune of Windsight will likely work well for him but might not fit for others.

Better to show them an answer to the consternation that Snorri's reached and let them build from there, eventually looking at how others have iterated on it in the future to see if we can combine the various ideas with whatever Master Rune we made.

Eastern Dwarves seem like a good target. Close, and we were already involved in some stuff there.

idle observation: the Siblings appear to be fulfilling something of a thematic trio that matches up to the Big Three Ancestor gods- warrior(grim), smith(zharr), miner(iz). I don't know if thats going anywhere but its neat

I think it more matches thematically with Grugni himself, who was a miner, smith, and warrior himself. Grimnir is definitely warrior, but Valaya wasn't really a smith or miner, she more was brewing, cooking, medicine, motherhood, and guarding the hold.

Funny enough for a second I thought solving the Consternation was tied to the Far North minor ancestor godhood. I realized the truth though.

Probably for Runesmiths and their direct Kin who they've explained it too. It must suck for super meticulous people to be unable to explain the basic functions of WHY their works do what they do.

So does that mean that in order to become a proper Ancestor God of the likes of Valaya, Grungni and all the others we have to achieve 10 standing in every hold/Dwarf territory, or at least a vast majority?

Ah but that's a banner Rune.

Maybe I'll change it/give it more effects just to keep this meme going.

EDIT: Thats exactly what I'm doing.

(*Updated*) Rune of the Hawk: Increases the vision and high altitude tolerance of allies in range
I can help
#Rune-Ideas

Rune of Birds Eye View: Any rune that doesn't function right in a mine is of questionable value, however some Prospectors, Rangers and other sorts claim it can be of use mapping and orienting oneself on the surface... A claim somewhat similar that a mud tankard can be of use when you want your ale to taste of dirt. Not untrue, but a circumstance better avoided by those right in the head.
When activated this gives the user a view point directly above their head looking straight down, the altitude of the view can be altered however it always remains centered on the user and doesn't improve vision.
Talisman, Activation, Utility, Mental, Solo, Light, Odd

Rune of Minds Eye: Allegedly invented for a deaf miner who kept breaking into caverns filled with hostile creatures, however its sometimes known as the Rune of Yorri-bane, which makes you wonder the truth of it.
When the user closes their eyes, they are able to reposition and reorient their view anywhere within 45ft to spot potential ambushes.
More than a few runesmiths with these have been spotted walking around with these in Khazagar since you reclaimed KKR, the cheek, as if you'd leave an artifict like that with less than 15 meters worth of defense.
Talisman, Trigger, Utility, Mental, Solo, Light, Odd

Rune of the Meerkat: Named for a Zornish creature that has the good sense to live in burrows, the appropriate wariness to watch for predators and the misfortune to not know how to make pickaxes.
This Rune allows users in a formation to share the vision of each other, and whenever one becomes aware of a threat all others immediately learn it.
Banner, Constant, Augment, Defensive, Utility, Mental, IFF, AOE, Mental, Odd

There now we have even more runes that don't help us see further.
Though that didn't mean you couldn't watch at all of course, it just meant you had to do it with a multi-lense contraption that the Engineers Guild made on your behalf from a safe distance.
Was this what prompted the far distance question?
Hmmm, couldn't the rune of Refraction have done this?

Durin's Consternation is a wall. A wall you can not see, for you are blind, but a wall you know exists. You know, from the room you have memorized, that beyond the wall is a world. A world full of wonders and mysteries and glory. A world denied to you. Because of a wall. A wall you can not break despite all the hammers you bring against it, a wall you can not climb, despite all the handholds you search for.

No matter how much you work, no matter how much you learn, no matter what glories you build within your room, there is always the wall. It taunts you, in your dreams, and it obstructs you when you work. You may have learned to live with the wall, accept that there is a wall that you can not do anything about, but it still chafes.

If only a door exists, even a door fit for a mouse, then you could begin to explore what lies beyond the wall. But no door exists, and you have looked.

But now... now there is a window. A small one, barely able to fit a hand through, but one nevertheless.

Its time to explore that wider world.

No in order to become an Ancestor god of the like the White Dwarf, he needs to hit 10 Standing in every hold (or at least a vast majority).
In order to become an Ancestor god like Valaya or Grungni he needs to hit 11.
Rough Guideline of Standings*:
-5 [Unknown]
0 [Respected]
5 [Deeply Honoured]
10 [Exalted] The normal cap.
11 [Ancestor God]

That was a beautiful update. Snorri's mindset felt different in a way I can't quite put my finger on. I can't wait to see how the rune acts in pt2. Bring on Aetherbinder! I guess esp pt3 is going to be locked for now until we learn more about the winds, but I think that'll be making a MRune with that adds all the esoteric parts of Windsight in.

I hope this rune gets us what we need though to unlock rune metal. The work must be done.
