I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Master Rune of Hope: A banner rune, it imbues all friends to the Dawi who see it with hope, not only for the battle that is but too for the battle that is to come, and for that hope they become able to endure greater hardships than any could imagine and yet stand fighting. It becomes stronger against Nurgle, as the foemen find the solidified despair they draw on for victory can find no purchase against them.

Master Rune of Calm: An armor rune, they who bear it shall become a plate of calm floating atop a great lake of rage and hate, keeping calm and in control and so lashing out with more finesse, more ability each time they strike, every blow proving more and more able as those the bearer fights lose control. A vex upon Khorne, whose fury--and attacks--prove less and less able to strike home.

Master Rune of Contentment: Carried upon siege weapons, those who work under it find any desire for personal glory soothed to instead seek only to fulfill their duty, ambitions put aside for the moment. Such allows a greater harmony as they fire, and so makes the firing smoother, and the shots truer. Baneful to Tzeentch, who ever flourishes upon such self centered ambition, and so the fire from his daemons as they duel means less and less as the little magics find no purchase.

Master Rune of Restraint: Born upon the thick walls and watchtowers, those who fight atop find themselves a disciplined machine, not wasting energy as they fight and therefore able to do more of the fighting--to attack more and yet with the same skill. Hates, and hated by, the servants of Slaanesh, who find their usually astounding speed slowed and much so as they look upon the walls and towers bearing it.

Old they are, and fearsome too these runes--created by ancient Runesmiths, old when the Karaz Ankor was young and found upon many of the Karaks, on their armor and banners and engines and walls, such was the hatred the Dwarfs bear for the Great Enemy. But the reagents for them were rare then, and only grow rarer now.

So uh, with Hope and Calm I realize the effect against Khorne and Nurgle are sort of similar but Nurgle's would be like, a -1 to wound while Khorne's would be a -1 to hit, if that makes sense?

How far along the path does a Runesmith/lord have to be to become functionally ageless/ immortal?

As I understand it, its not about magical ability or personal development.
Its about having such a cause or purpose that you cannot afford to die anymore.

In our in-game era, for a Runesmith, that means:
-Research backlog - Can't die, too much science to do.
-Cultural and political importance - Can't die, the beardlings need me.
-Irreplacable practical need for services - Can't die, nobody else can make this.
-Debts unpaid - Can't die, I still need to pay off Snorri's favors...what do you mean it increased again?!

This would of course, need to be balanced with the mental fortitude to withstand all of the above without cracking. Grind at a stone enough and it will turn to sand eventually.

Snorri's mother passed on soon after Snorri technically adopting Karhstah because that meant that Snorri was finally healing after his wifes death.
Gotrek of the blacksmiths guild pretty much declared he wouldn't die until he got the chance to work with Gromril chain.

You don't need magic to be immortal. IRL, lobsters have a genetic quirk of retaining their youthful DNA. Meaning they will never die of old age or become less physically capable as they get older. What does kill them are things like predators, hunger, disease, or having grown so large that their next moulting of their shell causes them to die of exhaustion.
 
I always thougth it was just a story that got blown up by the internet.
Like the molding makes impossible to tell the age but by being spread on the internet it started a telephone game and we ended up with the DNA bit.
Still ding of exaustion because you molted to many times sounds a lot like death of old age.

And figure out how to make their molting less... exhausting? Huh, I wonder if there's dwarfs who keep lobsters as pets and commissioned a Runesmith to create a couple Talismans to enhance their vitality and such.

Speaking of which, @soulcake, has there been cases of Farmers and whatnot commissioning Runesmiths to create some simple Talismans for the prize goats of their herd in order to breed even better goats and all?

Dwarfs probably haven't known about lobsters long enough for more than one generation.

Honestly do not know. The problem here is that in order for the lobster to have enough energy to molt and at some time they cannot physically eat enough.
There might be a selective breeding process to reduce the energy by growing a thinner shell or something but thats going to be taking actual millennia to figure out since you need to wait for them to be more than half a century before you know if one has good genes.

We migth as well start raising non orcs fungus, there is a fungus in Canada that has more than two thousands years.
Is a gigant underground network of micelia (not sure about the english word for that one)
They live underground, potentialy for ever will never betray you and will make food.
Immortal lobsters have notting on them.
 
They aren't immortal, old age does kill them and they do get senilish, it just takes possibly thousands of years to die for them and the body takes a lot to decompose, there are a number of sleeping beauty in ulthuan who are in reality just dead but it takes decades for their suitors and families to notice even after kissing them.
Also they just live soo long that it becomes almost a statistical certainty that they will get killed violenty, (the chance of a cow killing you is low, but it gets bigger evry year).

How did the war of Vengeance/Beards/Ancients start?
Malekith being a bastard and Caledor losing one of his two brain cells in the couch cushions.

Malekith set up some false flag attacks on the dwarves that were apparently particularly gruesome and upsetting. Dwarves, being dwarves, start collecting grudges and grumbling about going to war.

The high king managed to keep a lot on things to an extent, and sent a diplomat to the elves to figure out what was going on.

He got the run around from the court, may or may not have brandished an axe for dramatic effect, then swore on his beard that he wasn't leaving until he got an answer and some recompense for his people.

Which is when Caledor had him shaved, because he'd rather do the rough equivalent of castrate an ambassador than admit the dark elves exist.

He was then surprised by the dwarves deciding to kill every elf they could get their hands on, and burning their colonies to the ground, so presumably he never got his missing grey matter back.
