[] Look around for Akiko/the rest of the Sendai group
[] Press Sakura about Akiko

[]Ask Sakura who else in the Sendai group all the others could trust to speak for them. What if they all came over and Rin healed Yumi's neck?
[] Discretely prepare a few grief marbles. Keep them in marble form unless attacked, to avoid prematurely startling anyone. Ask Mami and Kirika to help watch.

Ugo, you know the UG will freak out if the entire Sendai group comes over. That's not going to work.

"Sakura, I think Miss Sabrina has a point," Rin pipes up, unexpectedly. You'd almost forgotten she was there. "Maybe Yumi could take over?"

"With her fucking broken neck?" Sakura says sourly. "And you know Akiko won't fuckin' agree."
Invite Yumi to the table? Rin can heal her.

UG might not like that. Aside from the fact it's bringing another of Akiko's group into close proximity- presumably one who's done more to them and is more threatening than Rin- it's also bringing a potential enemy (seeing as negotiations aren't concluded and could still end violently) back up to fighting strength. It's something we'll need to confirm with them first, at the very least.

That update was so much more enjoyable than reading 10-15 pages of squabbling. Maybe I should just stay out of the discussion thread since it drives me to despair. Had a lot of sleep, sheesh my sleep cycle is stuffed, hopefully more calmer and rational.

So we are making concrete progress now. Especially with Rin and even Sakura. But I don't see how to achieve an end goal here. We're pretty much reacting to whatever is happening.

You what I wish right now? I wish we weren't petty enough deny Akiko a place at the table. Sure we were able to make progress on Rin and we deliberately hamstrung Sendai's negotiating position. But I wanted to be able to chew Akiko out face to face. Confront her and force her to personally defend those dumb demands. Rin seeing Akiko spout that survival of the fittest crap would have shaken her faith just as much. If Akiko's that fragile that she breaks to a few questions who knows what could have happened... OTOH it could have had unexpected consequences like from UG. Now Akiko's run away... Oh well, the current arrangement wasn't that bad and probably avoided a bunch of pitfalls.

Okay thats the ranting out of the way. The issue I'm coming back is this; what are we negotiating over? Have we seriously thought about this? If all the items on the table are just Sendai backing down from all activities with no recriminations then whats the likelihood of them accepting it? The signs don't look good at the moment. These aren't the sort of items you discuss at a bargaining table between peers, they're what occurs at a surrender deal. Except we haven't had the decisive victory yet. I simply don't see the direction the current votes are going. I fear everyone is too focused on the immediate situation than to think what'll happen mid-term or even short-term.

So whats the course of action now Akiko's gone? Press again for someone else? Try to find her and spend the next 3-5 updates trying to be a therapist?

I think we've sufficiently shocked Akiko that she won't turn to fighting right of the bat but I'm not sure whats going to happen next. Things are very much in flux. I'm pretty confused at the moment. I guess nows the time for more social with Rin and maybe Sakura?

Hang on, noticed something in the update.
"My 'hangup' hasn't gotten people killed," you riposte calmly.

"That-" Sakura says, and breaks off. "Fuck."

"That what, Sakura? Doesn't matter? I think it does, personally," you say, almost conversationally. "But y'know, let me ask something. Say I'm not here, say you get the University girls to agree to the thirty. What next? You keep on fighting for territory forever?"

"No, I assume we back the fuck off on them if they actually managed to fucking make us negotiate," Sakura snaps.
Something unexpected happened here in the middle of the convo. At first read through I assumed Sakura was just reacting to Sabrina's words. Maybe this was when Akiko bolted? or was it something else?

BTW I liked the dialogue in the latest update, very sharp.

The hell, Akiko? What happened - you leave the oven on or something?
Well, thanks for proving our point that you're a terrible negotiator - leaving without a word during the middle of discussion without a word is the height of unprofessionalism. (Yes, I know that telepathy means that functionally she could participate from anywhere within range and that Rin is acting as her mouthpiece - it's the principle of the matter, dammit.) I just can't get over the fact that she's not even pretending to give a damn about it anymore since there are obviously things that are more deserving of her attention than the negotiation.

Plus our suspicion and her own admission of Fukushima backup en route - makes it a hostile move. Even if there is a perfectly innocent reason (fat chance) the lack of communication shows a contemptible lack of respect for Chouko's group and us.

[x] Telepathy Akiko and demand an explanation - this behaviour is unprofessional, rude and downright hostile and our tolerance of her antics has ended.
[x] Since Akiko can't be bothered to stick around she's just forfeited her position as negotiator. This is an insult, pure and simple - that makes two she's made in total. Get Rin and Sakura to decide on a replacement who will take this situation and the people involved seriously.
[x] Telepathy Kirika to be on the lookout (since she's got nothing better to do) and be ready to antimagic at the first sign of trouble.

Regarding the now all but inevitable ganking:

Akiko clearly has issues. Framing this as a deliberate insult and making high-handed statements about professionalism is going to come across as tone-deaf... it does show she's not really fit to be the negotiator, but we already knew that.

I get that. She's also the gravity manipulator, so the most dangerous of the Sendai group to have so close. But we have to put our money where our mouth is. We've been pressing them to get somebody else to take negotiations and they have one person who could.

And while I say she would be the most dangerous in this situation, we can stretch out our vigilance enough to cover for potential disaster. We'd have Kirika watching her like a hawk to stop her magic while Mami stays on Akiko watch.

It things go wrong, we can hatch Aurora's seed and have all our allies and whichever enemies are closest, to the SB/Toucan's barrier, which I don't remember being all that agressive. Then we would be in the middle of a fight, but half of Sendai would've been cut from the rest.

Okay, it's a bit of a long-term ish idea... but let's say the Sendai girls got split up due to infighting, being absorbed into Mitakihara, or due to more terminal reasons. Maybe we could have UG takeover Sendai?

However, instead of chasing out or charging rent from independents or newbie MGs, they point them to us instead? Another possible clause is that they take in and train any newbie meguca they find, and in exchange we will help maintain a generous gref seed stockpile for them, and they could come to us any time in case they need a cleanse.

My own thoughts on Yumi was to ask if her neck was broken in an obvious way, or if she can at least pass for normal-ish if people aren't looking too closely, and then offer to ask the UG if they'd allow her to the table. Yes, there's animosity, but there's a chance that most of it is focused on Akiko.

I don't get it. MGs go into barriers all the time. We also would be getting them out.
It's the whole forcing them in there.

Her neck is like twisted around, as in she couldn't pass for okay.

Anyway can someone give me a rundown on Sabrina's combat capabilities?

Its been months since the last fight. What are her offensive abilities apart from snapping gems within 200m? I presume we want to be non-lethal most of the time (MG's can take lot of punishment though).

She can make grief wings, grief shields and is apparently extremely durable. How fast is she? Whats attacks can she do?

Isn't everything dictated by her 200m range?

On a side note: Onmur's idea seems like it would be decent in a desperate situation. Or even an unfavourable one. I wouldn't care too much about what other MG's think, we would be fighting against enemies. I don't see how it would nuke negotiations, maybe give other groups caution not to make us hostile due to our unusual tactics.
