You misunderstand. Kyuubey has spent significant amounts of time to convincing Madoka to contract, which suggests there was something different about her even before ramping up her potential got involved

This is false.

In the first few timelines, the ones before Madoka's potential reached the current state if being more desirable than the possibility of keeping the system working, Kyubey didn't spend a significant amount of time to make Madoka contract.

Because absent Homura intervening, Madoka contracts as soon as he shows up, to save a kitten that was just run over by a car.

It's only after the timeline where Madoka asks Homura not to let her wish anymore, thus after her potential is already considerable, that she doesn't wish right after meeting him and thus he has to insists.

It very much did not. Madoka made an impulsive wish to heal a cat that was hit by a car the first time around. Zero effort on Kyubey's part
That's my recollection too, Kyubey only went out of its way to recruit Madoka after she started accruing multiple timelines worth of potential. She wasn't 'always inherently special' in The Grand scheme of things.

She's still a formidable girl, but the power to become deific came from Homura'd meddling.

EDIT: basically ninja'd oh well

Just like he 'just so happened' to stumble on Mami in the middle of a car accident, hmm?

Wake up, sheeple! He's in all our motor vehicles!
Speaking of this, its well known that Mami would've survived that accident no matter what wish she made, but I think she would have survived it even if she didn't make a wish at all.

My reasoning for this is that Mami had very high potential, near the top end for a normal magical girl, and magical potential is based on the individual's relative impact on fate, meaning how big an effect on the world they're destined to have.

Mami was a young teen when the accident happened, she didn't have time to do anything noteworthy. It doesn't make much sense for her to have a high potential if she was destined to die there.

And then remember that before she became a magical girl, Mami wanted to be an idol, a profession all about stirring the hearts and minds of the people. With her level of talent it would certainly be possible for her to do well enough to generate a high magical potential.

So, I think if she hadn't contracted, Mami was fated to survive and one day become a popular idol.

Does this mean it's also responsible for isekai-ing people? :V
Yes.

By dumping troublesome indiduals into parallel worlds, thereby creating casus belli for those worlds to invade to make the dumping of troublesome individuals stop, at which points the invading force can be leeched of energy thereby offsetting entropy.

And if the troublesome individual manages to return on their own they can be leeched of energy to offset entropy.

Really, you can't lose with Isekai.

On a different topic, a realization I just had: you know that feeling when you start a new playthrough in an RPG and suddenly all these characters you've been through so much with have no idea who you are and don't trust you? That's been Homura's life for a subjective decade.

Wait, so some bigender kids might both get Truck-kun'd and Megucafied?

I'd say that was a fate worse than death, but... Kyubey passed that line a canon ago.

An idle thought:

IIRC Homura has a big stockpile of grief seeds from prior loops, and eventually we might figure out how to Dewitch them. Doesn't that mean we could have duplicates of magical girls around? Like, multiple Sayakas?

...multiple Mamis? 🤔

Yes. We checked with her on this. She doesn't have many, but obviously her friends' Grief Seeds are the ones she's been most reluctant to use across the loops.

The only one she doesn't have Grief Seeds from is Madoka.

Should we really be proposing to witchbomb Hitomi right now if agreed? We had a timestop conversation in the morning about that topic with Homura and Sayaka and I remember the general consensus being to tell them after school at least. Would it be better to propose giving Hitomi the choice to know the secret after school instead?

Speaking of, should we invite Sayaka in on this? Gives a different perspective and it might be good to let her know Madoka's world-ending potential witch. (Same excuse with the metaknowledge)

Also anyone notice the O in the threadmark is capitalized?

I don't recall this. Did we offer to turn all of them into Clear Seeds, since we know the Witch at the heart of a Grief Seed is still suffering, generating tiny amounts of Grief? Comparing the name at the hearts of the seeds to the gems of their living counterparts could be informative, too.

The intent behind witchbombing Hitomi now is to give her a chance to contribute to the conversation about what to tell or not tell Madoka.

The plan I believe is to start with Homura, then add and drop people as appropriate as we discuss things.

Well it took about an hour and a half, but in celebration of the 10th anniversary of SV, and the soon to be 10th anniversary of PMAS, I reacted to every update and side story with the 10th Anniversary emote.

Had the idea a month or two ago when I realized doing my first reread that I hadn't reacted to any updates, and knowing of the anniversary emotes I thought it would be an interesting thing to do.
