That wasn't a battleship, that was an anti-ship missile platform that she stole from the JSDF. She was intending to steal it again in this timeline, but we brought her to Russia instead to steal some Russian equipment.

This is what I'm referring to;

Homura nods jerkily. "Walpurgisnacht is..." She grimaces, violet eyes cutting into you. "Kyuubey can't hear us, right?"

"Nothing at all," you confirm, gesturing at your Grief construct. "This is absolute."

She lets out a quiet breath, regarding Mami, then Sayaka. "Walpurgisnacht is overwhelmingly powerful. It's been hit with... battleship weapons before. It didn't die."

And to forestall the inevitable derail: yes, antiship missiles are a million times more effective than battleship guns. Yes, including at punching through lots of armor. Tandem warheads are unfair like that.

Anyway, while I like the general idea of what we say, I'm not sure about the specific wording. By which I mean I'm not sure hammering the "we're here to help" message again is the best tack we want to take. Yes, it's our whole schtick. But I also think we should ease off on it a bit right now.

I might type up a specific vote later.

Clapguca: So that's why you and everyone else is evil.

Sabrina: Battleships!

Everyone: What.

Sabrina: Evolving methods of warfare!

Everyone: ....

Braindamage.exe: Aircraft carriers!

Clapguca: I feel this proves my point but also I'm kinda scared now.

Okay, non-kneejerk post time.

I really wish I could kick what I suppose is a bad habit of slamming out some thing and then going over everything fine-tooth and coming up with a serious concrete position, but to be fair to myself I've been doing that for a decade and a half. Was a great way to write papers.

*has actually read the story post instead of skimming now*

*is totally a guilty party and an instigator*

Okay, so, extremely different approach proposal time. Funny how that works, when you aren't just -- ahem.

First of all: we're winning big so far.

Secondly: what we're seeing in the thread is getting at a lot of good points.

Third: we don't really want to burn any possible bridges just yet.

[X] Yes—you. All of you. We intend to work and co-operate with every girl in Tokyo on this. That is why we are here, offering our resources, offering our help, instead of forcing the issue. If you have any concerns or complaints, you are free to come to me, or any member of Constellation, and we will step in, mediate and resolve it. We will even help you leave Tokyo, and move somewhere else if you wish it. We are not here to take sides. We are not here to cause conflicts. We are here to help.

A couple problems I do have with this: for instance, "instead of forcing the issue" is actually the worst bite we could possibly include. I think much of this is honestly kinda inspired, that in particular really has to go.

The rest of it -- the stuff talking about how we're willing to do all these things -- that's a tougher issue. Clapgirl is either in this to cause trouble (Meiji...) or feels that the current plan is taking a side, and/or will portray the current plan as taking a side should we try to say that we are not. (Or all of the above, honestly)

//This is honestly the meaningful line, the one we should certainly push to include:
[X] To be blunt, you don't know the precise root of their grievance, so it's hard for you to know if it's part of the increasingly large set of things you're capable of just fixing that other groups simply aren't. If there's any chance of that, you'd really appreciate if they'd get in contact with you -- you might really be able to help them.
//Whatever else we say is likely just... somewhere between showmanship and meaningless. There have been several proposals already that basically work.
-[X] That said, as far as your perspective goes? What you are engaging in is triage. You have no interest in specifically working with or uplifting any particular faction that might or might not exist in this city. They are people, and their lives and problems matter, but not all of those problems matter at the same level, nor are they the only people in the world. Your first priority is cleansing, because the absence of that is death and murder. If she has something to say that would impact that, and she wants to approach it seriously -- you'll take her seriously.

telling oriko's story would be a huge breach of her trust and im dead set against it.

i do however quite like kaizuki's second proposal

we want to communicatie that we dont want to -nor do we have to- deal with clapgirl's bullshit during this meeting. the trick is coming across as strong and no nonsense without also coming accross as a bully or tyrant. we still want to be and be seen as reasonable, kind, safe, and approachable.

Pretty much exactly what you said.

Proposal one was crap lol. Proposal two -- not so much.

[X] And by that, I presume you mean miss Chiyoda? if so, then the question is wrong. As I have just told you, everyone I am working with is already stood right before you. The purpose of this visit is to expand that list to include all in Tokyo who can play nice. So Socrates, can you play the ball? if̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶y̶t̶h̶ing ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶w̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶w̶i̶s̶h̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶h̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶u̶s̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶a̶f̶f̶a̶i̶r̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶o̶k̶y̶o̶,̶ ̶i̶d̶ ̶k̶i̶n̶d̶l̶y̶ ̶a̶s̶k̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶w̶a̶i̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶a̶p̶p̶r̶o̶a̶c̶h̶ ̶u̶s̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶u̶n̶t̶i̶l̶ ̶a̶f̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶m̶e̶e̶t̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶e̶ ̶d̶i̶s̶c̶u̶s̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶c̶a̶u̶s̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶d̶r̶a̶m̶a̶.̶

Yeah, I wrote that line out and deleted it half a dozen times because I couldn't tell if it was appropriate or not. Went with my gut, and I guess my gut was wrong.

The main dangers in this situation IMO are:
  1. As Nerdasaurus Rex pointed out, this delegate is trying to make our offer a referendum on Toshimichi; if we're going to speak up, it should be in a way that makes it clear this is about Tokyo magical girls in general, not Chiyoda or their leader.
  2. Regardless of whether we imagine Constellation eventually being a global MSY-like org, it seems very important to avoid implying, in this venue, that muscling out Chiyoda/Toshimichi/the Tokyo Council and taking over as the new arbiters of Tokyo intergroup politics is in any way on our minds. That way lies the sort of complications we do not have time for right now, IMO.
So I'm broadly in favor of the "Yes—you" approach in general as a great angle for turning the trick question inside out, but would want to strike any mention of "forcing the issue" (even as something you've chosen not to do, saying it out loud can come across as a veiled threat that you coulda), and the blanket offer of mediation or "escape" goes waaaaay beyond the topic of the day &, again, sounds like an attempt to take over what this council is already for.

An abridged form - something like...

[X] Yes—you. All of you. We intend to work and co-operate with every girl in Tokyo on this. That is why we came here, on our own initiative, to offer our resources and help to you directly, if you are willing to accept it.

...I would be more comfortable getting behind.

Alternatively, it might be good to just [] Let Chiyoda handle it - giving them a chance to jump in & using it to take the lay of the political land - and only jump in ourselves if things look like that conversation is getting out of control.

Yeah, I think I'm happier with this phrasing.

Excellent reword and avoidance of undermining Chiyoda.

tbf at this point would be out of character for sabrina to not endlessly plea for an unreasonable person to be reasonable tbh. this is not meant as a dig against any of u or your plans, just a read of the way i forsee this going, i read her a shit stirrer, i just dont want sabrina to appear weak, or for this girl to thnik she has free reign to walk over sabrina. we are however surrounded by our allies, and ooq, i trust the fukushima girls to do the metaphorical stick waving for us. sabrina is more of an social worker than politician.

edit: i hate seeing people be pushed around, in fiction it manifest as a lack of patience, irl it results in freeze response.

I guess this allows us enough flexibility if it turns out there's actually something really horrifying going on.

Okay but consider! If we take over Tokyo we can gift wrap it and hand it to Mami as a present! Imagine all the kouhais she can have!
