Mhm... I think letting Chiyoda handle this might be good. No need to constantly keep our hand on the reigns. Though I'm willing to listen otherwise.

Hmm, my temptation is to say something like, "Well enough to work with them while we get this set up. If you want to discuss this further we'll be willing to meet with you at a later date."

[] Not really, care to explain?

This is probably not a good way to stay on good terms with Akane, but it is probably a good way to get the other peeps side of the story.

So this might have been brought up previously, but the thought occurred to me that the Battleship that Homura mentioned using against Walpurgisnacht might have been Iowa's? There is like... only a few battleships left in the world and most are in the USA, which I think Homura hasn't been to before when we asked her about traveling. The only other battleship I know that's floating is Mikasa and I'm guessing it's rather hard to arm since it's been close to 90 years since it has had live shells... and I'm pretty sure all of it's shells, if any remained, were destroyed during the end of WWII...

Thoughts or am I being paranoid?

Edit; I've been ninja'd by an update, damn!
Wait what happened to all the other battleships? My extensive knowledge of history rapidly thins out as the topic approaches the present.

"why yes, I'm pretty sure I just introduced them? Here, I'll go over them again.

There's Mami, Sayaka, Homura, Oriko, Best Buddy, The Plediates Saints, ..."

Ten minutes later the entirety of Tokyo is on fire.

Still worth it.

I'm pretty sure Meiji knows about Toshimichi not being a Magical Girl, they probably know more about her true nature than we do and it makes them distrustful of her.

Wait what happened to all the other battleships? My extensive knowledge of history rapidly thins out as the topic approaches the present.

There are nine floating battleships left in the world; eight in the USA as museums and one pre-dreadnaught in Japan, Mikasa. Most of the Japanese battleships were sunk in WW2... Same fate for most battleships tbh... The USA and UK had the most left but the UK mostly scrapped theirs at war's end.

Forgive me if I missed it (~7k pages :O), but do we have a contingency that tells Homura to immediately stop time and come extract us?

Like sending her a code word via telepathy and she'd (from Sabrina's PoV) appear in front of her within a second? If yes, does Homura have a Clear Seed or equivalent to pull this off risk free?

If not, this might be worth adding it to the next plan since it's an additional safeguard against ambushes against any of the Constellation's members. Possibly have there be more code words, i.e. for "I need help but you alone is enough to extract me", "Bring reinforcements" etc.

I'd almost consider offering the explanation that Grief is a resource for us, and as we're preparing for a big punch-up with the meanest of all living Witches we need all the firepower we can get. So really it would be you scratch our back we scratch yours. Even if that's not exactly true people are less suspicious if they think they know what your angle is, and "I want to be ready for the giant raid boss coming to wreck my home" is a pretty understandable angle.

…But then I realized it would also look really bad, when we keep accumulating Grief after Walputgisnacht is over. So that would be a decent short term solution that would probably make us look like we're warmongers in the long term.

Anyway, this is a risky situation, because the narrative is being painted like we're allies with the Chiyoda group. We obviously don't want to take a side during this meeting, especially seeing as we don't have all the facts.

I can't tell if this is a ploy by Toshimichi, a ploy by their enemies expecting us to vehemently deny being with Chiyoda, or exactly what it looks like at face value.

Admitting ignorance and hearing out any criticisms right here in front of everybody would probably not be a good idea, at least if we hope to get out of this neutrally without embarrassing any party (or ourselves).

Short answer? Aircraft carriers.

Long answer? After WW2, it became clear to everyone, especially those who fought in the Pacific theater, that the true testament of naval power was the Aircraft carrier, and not the battleship. Battleships had to be relatively close to their targets and risked being destroyed by them. Carriers could hit you from so far away the only way to hit them would be if you had carriers of your own. So battleships became obsolete.

Honestly, the few battleships that survived WW2 were either scrapped or (USA) used as atomic bomb targets in the following decades. The only ones that really stayed in active service were the Iowas as far as I know, with their last engagement being in the Gulf War, shelling targets from the coast. After that, they all became museum ships.

[] Bearing in mind that two of Constellation's founding groups were on opposite sides of the Sendai conflict and you're fully aware that Fukushima has quite a few more skeletons than that, does she believe that this is likely to change our offer?

I wanna know, but the last thing we need right now is a derail.

"So I've got a question," Miss Slow Clap drawls. "Do you know who you're working with?"

The way her eyes flick over to Toshimichi make it pretty clear who she's talking about, of course, as conversation in the auditorium abruptly dies.

Torg's caught some of my basic premise already.

The message we want to deliver here isn't that we don't care, isn't that we don't think she can change our mind -- it's that, "To a large degree, whatever you can possibly reveal about Akane that we don't know has no bearing on our willingness to pursue this deal."

Somebody is going to point out that the Oriko thing is mildly misleading on the basis that the issue with her wasn't seed scarcity. I concede the truth of that -- however as a direct example that on a personal level we are willing to forgive essentially anything, it is unsurpassed, and that makes it the perfect opener because it's functionally impossible for clapgirl to shut it down.

[X] Mikuni Oriko blew off your leg, threatened to destroy your apartment, burned down Miki Sayaka's house with her family inside, and fully intended to do worse. You're working with her; she makes great tea and is a decent person. Her girlfriend gives ten out of ten love advice.
-[X] You don't know Toshimichi Akane especially well, but you're quite certain she bears some form of responsibility for one or more deaths under the pressures of the grief seed system. So do some members of Constellation.
--[X] The entire grief seed system -- it coercively warps who people are and how they act. All the world over it takes people like us and cracks them, pushes them to warlordship and murder. If she wants to accuse somebody of being the kind of person who would go out and attempt murder when free of that poisonous influence, you'd be happy to hear her out. You'd look into it and if you felt she was right about it you'd probably find yourself forced to act on it, because you're in this for what it will do for others, not what it will do for yourself.
---[X] But unless she's going to make that accusation... As far as what you're offering goes, anything she might say is almost certainly irrelevant. You're sure she could alter your personal opinions, but even something really drastic wouldn't be a deal breaker for you as long as you can trust the basic lack of a desire to be evil on the other side of seed scarcity.
----[X] On that note, if anybody has some kind of problem to do with long-term curses inflicted by a witch, you've seen a couple cases of those and have some ability to alleviate or resolve them. (Extremely oblique reference to dewitching and the effects of seed-clearing) (1)

(1) -- a theory is that one of the antagonistic groups had somebody witch.

Point --[X] on that plan might be nice with some work but I would drop all the rest. Badmouthing our allies, even for a point, is a bad look.

And taking the airtime to hawk other points just seems like bad form.

Only I'd be a pretty big lie. We don't need more grief at all. If anything we should probably hand some of to the worlds second evilest marshmallow soon.

Don't lie in a room chock full of magic users picked specifically for viability in diplomatic situations, someone is bound to be a lie detector.

Hmmm I don't think pointing at the sins of other constellation members is the way to go here.

Yeah, "I'm willing to work with literally anyone" is not the message we want to give. I'd prefer more of a "You can tell me what you think if you want, but this deal is going through regardless, because clear seed distribution matters more. Oh and we can totally take Chiyoda if she breaks the terms."

Fundamentally, we want to hear their side because it is information we want and will influence future negotiations. But it won't dissuade us, because we're crazy and fully willing to throw down with anyone, even in social combat.

I'm gonna voice a very strong no to that plan.

[X] Not Kaizuki's vote

If I knew you any less well than I do this would really infuriate me. As-is... I mean, maybe one day you'll have the energy to provide constructive criticism again.

Yeah, "I'm willing to work with literally anyone" is not the message we want to give.

If that's the message you heard then I did something wrong, because the message I want to give is "We are willing to work with anyone who is down to not be evil in the absence of seed scarcity."

Hell, why not?

You're sure she could alter your personal opinions, but as long as you can trust the basic lack of a desire to be evil on the other side of seed scarcity, you're willing to write off a lot as the impact of systemic evils on otherwise decent people.

[X] Yes—you. All of you. We intend to work and co-operate with every girl in Tokyo on this. That is why we are here, offering our resources, offering our help, instead of forcing the issue. If you have any concerns or complaints, you are free to come to me, or any member of Constellation, and we will step in, mediate and resolve it. We will even help you leave Tokyo, and move somewhere else if you wish it. We are not here to take sides. We are not here to cause conflicts. We are here to help.
