Thought: Ishinomaki claims that they attacked Akiko because she was there earlier than she was supposed to be and because the other two were 'skulking around'.
"Rin," the now identified Akiko smiles. "I wasn't expecting to be needed so soon. I'm quite sure this isn't Ishinomaki."
Oriko similarly takes a sip of her tea. "They're telling the truth about going to Ishinomaki," she says. "They'll be there in a day or two. More than that...
Had we not met the Sendai girls, Akiko would've been teleported to Ishinomaki later, at the right time, but both groups would have ended up fighting anyway, somehow.

Does this mean that Ishinomaki would have attacked her anyways, or that Akiko planned to start a fight at the meeting? Why wasn't Akiko with Rin and Sakura anyways, since she was there way earlier than she was supposed to? Meeting Kato, perhaps? What excuse is good enough to split the group in enemy territory?

Also, another point against Akiko, since the meeting wasn't scheduled for just yet.
"They claimed to be suing for a truce, but attacked me when I got there," Akiko says, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world, her lips curling into a scowl. "During the negotiations... which were presumably a feint."
Actually, I'm not sure... I think the meeting was scheduled way beforehand, but she could have called it early, once there. I want to ask this before leaving.

@Muramasa
Before: [] I think we're pretty much done here. Thanks for the information.

Can we ask if the meeting was scheduled days or hours beforehand? It would still be their word against Akiko's, but if the meeting wasn't supposed to happen for a few more hours or even a day, it would almost certainly mean Akiko is the liar, here.

The fighting would have started, but at a later date. Do recall that the Ishinomaki group were planning on an attack, we just caused them to fast track their plans because Akiko came in early or something. I assume that without our interference, Rin and Sakura would have taken much longer to get to Sendai due them dealing with the lichbomb. Either that, or the negotiations failed and the attack went on as scheduled at later date.

This is all assuming that the Ishinomaki group are being perfectly level with us, of course.

Now that I think about it, Maybe we should start gathering a list of inconsistencies? It's starting to get a little too much for me to keep track of.

That's a fair question. I'll edit it in. One moment.

edit: done. Vote looks like this now.

Uh, I really hope yer not implying what I think yer implying.
That everyone is either digging way too deep into some level of conspiracy being present or just plain confused as hell as to what is really going on (partly due to the former)? Nah.

Yes.

But seriously, Firn has created a fairly compelling mystery. It's just that the sheer level of speculation, assumption-making, shadow-derping, and confusion brings something else to mind, which I found funny.

But we are totally drunk.

Hey! I, for the record, am just buzzed. I'm just intoxicated enough to come up with terrible ideas, and just lucid enough to articulate them (the perfect SV state of mind).

So who's voting for what?

I don't like Muramasa's vote by itself (nothing personal) because it comes off very bare bones. Its essentially just leaving without asking more pressing questions. The question he added in on the timing of the negotiation is imho frankly irrelevant at this point. We're not even sharing contact details with them or getting the University group's contact details. Which Ishinomaki should have, and they will probably tell them after we leave that the ambush failed and they got the stuffing beaten out of them by a new group not affiliated with Sendai.

Its not that I object to the contents of his vote (I incorporated it into my vote here), but we could do much more.
There is no concrete proof, per say, but Akiko's behaviour so far has not been that of someone wanting to avoid war. For instance, see this snippet:

This is in response to us telling her that the University group organized the whole affair. It certainly implies that Akiko is not adverse to fighting a war, and may even be hoping for an excuse to move on the university group. Why she needs an excuse, I'm less certain, though I have a niggling suspicion it has something to do with the Sakura-Akiko conflict we caught wind off.
I think thats reading too much into it. Her response could have been about something completely different. We just don't have enough information about the University-Sendai relationship/conflict. You could certainly be right though (I personally find your statement reasonable, even likely), but lets not get carried away by our biases before examining the evidence.
She is important enough for Akiko to use as a reason for starting the war, and it's certainly important enough for her to keep attacking even after being repulsed multiple times. Insert failbaddon joke here

I want to know if she genuinely cares about her or if she is just using her death as a convenient excuse to stage a territory grab, because that determines the approach we take when dealing with her.
I'm personally leaning towards the latter, which is why I want to ask Ishinomaki more about their conflicts with Sendai. Was it just about Setsuko? Or was there other things they were fighting over? (I framed it in my vote obliquely by asking why they'd fight when Mitakihara is closer and less defended).
I'm a bit leery of giving them advance warning directly- they may do something stupid. Also, Sendai's our first objective.
I don't dispute your second point, but is giving the University group advance warning of us really that dangerous? As soon as Ishinomaki tells them we're not part of Sendai they'll go out of their way to keep it that way. They're not going to go Leeroy Jenkins. I just want to avoid the scenario we ran into here, where one side had no idea about us and immediately assumed we were hostile. Just a common sense measure to avoid misunderstandings.

Agreed - we're right here, we could at least ask them a few more questions about things that we want to know that only they can answer and that they're not likely to object to.

I think part of the issue is that @Muramasa has so much momentum no-one wants to spend the effort on making a new write-in that won't win, particularly since it was a "tentative" vote so we assumed it would be changed as discussion continued. The hazard of having 'celebrity write-in-ers', I guess.

Asking why Sendai would attack comes over as...asking questions we just learned the answer to.
Look more closely at the update. The Ishinomaki girls did not give us a very good answer. Allow me to demonstrate:

Remember, we have some of the Sendai's story. Sure, some parts like the reasoning may be false but the details of what happened are easily verifiable.

When we first met the Sendai group, they gave us this story:
Akiko gives you an evaluating look. "Negotiations, and healing."

You narrow your eyes. "Then how did this start? Why were those girls after you?"

The bluenette shrugs. "They hold an... old grudge. I suspect that they orchestrated this entire thing."

"A grudge," you say skeptically, idly noting that she seems to be pinning the blame on Ishinomaki, rather than the University group.
Akiko closes her eyes, tilting her head back up at the sky. "We attempted to... aggressively acquire their territory, once."

"You tried to steal their city," you say flatly.

"Yes," Akiko admits.
And then in the very next post they contradict the bolded word:
Akiko tilts her head to indicate agreement. "I don't know how much you've heard, Miss Sabrina, but Ishinomaki and us have... not been on the best of terms, in recent years."

"I heard about it," Mami says, voice forbidding. With her arms still folded, she directs a disapproving, regal frown upon Akiko, looking down upon her despite their nearly equal heights. "You've been fighting back and forth for... two years?"

Akiko's face tightens. "We have, yes."
Maybe her "face tightens" since they were accidentally called out? Or it could probably be a bad memory.
"They claimed to be suing for a truce, but attacked me when I got there," Akiko says, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world, her lips curling into a scowl. "During the negotiations... which were presumably a feint."
Probably lying but lets not jump to conclusions.
"It's not the first time we've... skirmished," Akiko says, with a dismissive wave of her hand, before softening it with a smile. "You're new, so... trust me when I say it's nothing so dramatic as a magical World War." She pauses. "I'm grateful - we all are, right, Sakura?- for your intervention, but it wasn't necessary," she adds in clarification. Rin nods fervently, while Sakura just grimaces, breaking the staring contest with Kirika and nodding.
They've fought several times, I want to know why. If it was just over Kato Setsuko then I will admit my paranoid error. Also, Sendai comes off shifty as hell and we will investigate that in the future.

Now the Ishinomaki side:
Yuuki frowns. "You... do know why we're fighting, right?"

"Not completely," you say, cocking your head to the side, and favouring the Ishinomaki group with a raised eyebrow. "I would quite like to get your side of the story. I've heard Sendai's, of course."

Yuuki glances at Yuuka, and then back at you. "What's to tell? Chouko... ah... Tsubaki Chouko, from the University group comes and asks if we want to help put down the Sendai group. We agreed, of course, so we drop an ambush on Hamasaki-" the lines around her eyes tighten on the mention of the name "-when she came by."

"She claims she was here to broker a truce," you observe.

She rolls her eyes. "You believe that? You've met her, haven't you?"
This is not an answer! We don't know why they're fighting. Why did Akiko come by? Does she have an important relative living in Ishinomaki or something? I would like to note the use of the word "put down", they wanted to kill the Sendai group. Why the readiness to use lethal force? Did anything further happen?

Then this sequence happens:
"So," you say. "What exactly has Hamasaki done?"

"You don't know?" Yuuki asks in faint disbelief.
Aki grimaces, but nods, and steps forward. "Somewhere around there, I guess. So there's this big fight or something, I don't know, in the Sendai girls. Whatever. Result is, one of them dies or something, and another one, Kato, I think her name was, leaves them." Her voice is a little raspy.

"Ah!" Mami says. "Kato Setsuko?"
The third sentence is pretty intriguing, Sendai civil war? We need to remember that in the future.
"Thing is, a month later, Hamasaki and her cronies come screaming at us about her," Aki says. "Said we killed her, and they tried to kill us." Her face flattens into blankness. Similar expressions, blank looks and grimaces, echo across Kimiko and Ayaka's faces. "We win."

"I see," you say.

"We... were willing to let... bygones be bygones," Aki says. "But... eh." She shrugs again, and makes a 'what can you do' gesture.
This only accounts for one incident, two years ago. Akiko mentioned earlier of several fights and one outright invasion. Why did this happen? Then we get distracted talking about Kato Setsuko in the last update. We don't follow up on the details of why the conflict is happening. Lets verify Akiko's "multiple skirmishes" actually happened with Ishinomaki.
Yuuki's lip curls. "I dunno. She called for a meeting, right, so I figured we should be the bigger person and agree. But then when we find her here early, skulking about and her two friends also skulking about... Like, wouldn't be the first time she's set up an ambush," she says, frowning.
Inclined to believe them rather than Akiko but theres one question. Why? They fought Sendai and won. Akiko indicated Sendai kept fighting them, why? Why are they meeting? Is Akiko going to say sorry or something? If they're still fighting, why are they? Aki says Ishinomaki won in the earlier quote.

Another point, this directly contradicts Ishinomaki's earlier statement! (in the first quote box). Yuuki said they'd already been contacted by the University group and were laying the ambush. They're lying about something. You don't get to assume being the "bigger person" then turning around and laying an ambush to kill at the behest of allies. Also note their reasoning "Oh shit, Akiko's here attack!" (see bolded). This comes off extremely odd.

Now, its true both Sendai and Ishinomaki need to be asked some pointed questions. But Ishinomaki is right in front us now so lets ask before we leave.

Okay, you have a valid point, and if you're wrong- and there's a very good chance you are- then just asking won't hurt. Vote tentatively changed.

Sticking with the original for now until less asleep.

@Emdeman, if you can remove the "contact Sendai and tell them to back off" bit of your vote, I'll happily vote for you. I've explained aLready why I think that is going to help little at best, or be actively detrimental at worst. I also don't particularly think that now is a good time to ask for their cellphone numbers, but that isn't worth quibbling over.

Cannon's pointed out there is no functional difference between the latest versions of the votes other than the unhelpful Sendai contact and the less than important contact information- effectively, they're the same vote.

Sticking with the Mura vote.

[x] Exchange contact details with the Ishinomaki group i.e. cell phones numbers, emails etc, ask for University group's contact details.
[x]Ask Ishinomaki if they can contact the University Group and convince them to back off from the conflict and/or to organise a meeting with us.
-[x] if University Group does back off, let Sendai know that we got University Group to stand down for now, so no picking fights with them for a while, OK?
[x] Last question: Ask the Ishinomaki group why Sendai would want to take over their city (at least that was what Sendai told us). Is there something Akiko wants? After all, Mitakihara is pretty much in between Sendai and Ishinomaki and until recently, much less well-defended. (Frame it as self-interest), wouldn't it be more logical to come after us? Or is "two years worth of skirmishes" all over Kato Setsuko?
[x] Muramasa's vote.

For reference. The only thing I would really want to keep from emderman's vote is asking if Ishinomaki can organise a meeting with the university group, otherwise everything else is either identical to mura's vote, or stuff that are potentially problematic.

A new franken vote way too late for it to matter. Oh well, might as well get it out there.

[x] Ask the Ishinomaki group why Sendai would want to take over their city. Is it truly two years of constant skirmishes over Kato, or something more?
[x] You said Sendai arrived early. When exactly were the negotiations supposed to take place?
[x] Ask Ishinomaki if they can contact the University Group and get them to pull out to meet with us
-[x] if successful, head over and meet with them directly. Otherwise, head over to Sendai.
