I think Sendai had Kato Setsuko on the brain. That's why she was mentioned as the 'independant' Rin was supposedly going to heal.

My running theory at the moment is that Sendai believes Kato is alive, and they were in Ishinomaki to search for her. It explains why Akiko had split from her companions. They were short on time and needed to spread out their search. They didn't all come to Ishinomaki because that would be suspicious and provoke a war they didn't want (they were caught being suspicious anyway).

The university group caught wind of their meeting and set up an ambush and pretty much doomed their efforts to begin with.

So yeah, war.

If possible, I would like for us to start heading into Sendai by the next post. We've given them enough of a headstart as it is, let's not give them any more time to make things worse.

I'll come ip with a proper vote when I get back to a proper computer.

If it's so important, then this is only half-joking:

[]"Looks like we have to beat a teleporter to Sendai. Do you mind if we finish this conversation by telepathy?"
[]Propose meeting for lunch/dinner at some point after the shit has stopped exploding.
[]Ask Rin details of on healing/meeting Kato. Ask if Mami is able to telepathy Kato. Ask if Ishinomaki is able to telepathy Kato.
[]Compliment Mami on her absolutely amazing fight, and don't leave Kirila out.
[]Head to whichever of Mitikihara or Sendai is closer. Have Homura meet you when you're reasonably close to Mitikihara. Timestop express the rest of the way to Sendai. Discuss the situation and combat and diplomacy tactics.

I'm nervous enough that I'd vote to have our other trump card on hand if there's support for it. If not, just fly straight to Sendai.
[]Head to Sendai at maximum warp. Discuss the situation and combat and diplomacy tactics.

[] Ask for some details on the Sendai Group. Powers, other people we haven't met, etc, if they know more.
"Their last two members are Tanaka Tamiko and Minami Yumi," Homura says. "Force fields, and gravity respectively."

Homura might be our best source here. She's probably got first-hand info in the tactical sense on all these groups.

Re the vote, I'm reasonably certain we've wrung all the information we need out of the ishinomaki crew for now, so I'm not sure why we would want to remain here any longer. We need to dicuss our findings with Akiko and press the inconsistencies, as well as prevent them from pushing out the University group, if we aren't able to stop the wa outright.

I would also like to convince the ishinomaki group to join us in Sendai, if possible. Their presence should reduce the likelihood of the Osaki group being called in, plus, while they may not be as central as an actor as the Sendai or inshinomaki group, they do still have legitimate grievances with the Sesai group and this deserve a place at the negotiations.

I'd be okay with a representative or two from Ishinomaki. Not the whole goddamn group. How can you not make that look like an invasion?

edit: Actually nevermind. I'm against Ishinomaki coming with us entirely.

[x] One last question. You said Sendai arrived early. When exactly were the negotiations supposed to take place?
[x] I think that's it. We're pretty much done here. Thanks for the information.
[x] Goodbye for now. Maybe with a little luck, we can get things to settle down in a day or two.
[x] Wings to grief carpet. Time to leave. Next stop: Sendai
[x] Heal injuries.
[x] Fangirl Mami on her absolutely amazing fight, and don't leave Kirika out.
[x] Update Homura, via telepathy.
[x] Check if Mami can telepathy with Kato

Tentative vote.

We're not really hurting for information about Sendai's combat ability. Most of it, Kirika can cancel out easily.

[x] check if Mami can telepathy with Kato
To that vote, because she looks to be an important factor in understanding why Sendai is acti the way they have.

[X] Mura.
Man, I have to get into reading these updates earlier: I can barely follow the conflict. Just to be sure, we're going back to Sendai to give Akiko a "what the fuck?" followed by diplo-intimidation in an attempt to get her to back off so we can convince everyone else to back the hell off, right?

Pretty much, yeah, with a side order of demanding answers and cleaning up whatever mess she'd be halfway through making at that point.

That's the secondary/optional objective, IIRC. Primary was to get in touch with the University group before they call in their reinforcements.

It occurs to me that we have been treating telepathy as long range when in the show they needed to go fetch mami physically instead of telepathing her when they found Charlotte's seed because they didn't know her phone number.

Probably too late to change things though.
Keeping in mind that Kyubey mysteriously found Mami out of range at a time where it would be really convenient for her to be unavailable so as to force a contract.

That said, on poking witch cores(missed the discussion earlier), what if we set up a grief extraction process and keep it running in the background while we science it? Sure we gain a spike of corruption, but that's why we just need to have it removed as fast as it builds.

I disagree with the idea that we should go back to Sendai.

The Sendai Conflict is relatively limited, and will not result in much of anything greater than the University Group being driven out, probably with casualties. Of much greater import is the incoming reinforcements. If our goal is to limit this conflict (and hope we do so with minimal casualties), we need to prevent the reinforcements from joining the fight. Going to Sendai is going to be abandoning the herd for the sake of a single sheep.
I disagree with this. We need to head to Sendai, they are the heart of the conflict. By resolving the issue we get rid of the need for reinforcements. We need to go to Sendai, talk to University group first, then contact Sendai group that we've sorted things with the other side and gotten results. That'd make Akiko take us seriously. But first we need to figure out what the University group wants and why they want it.

Lets look at the big picture. By getting Ishinomaki agreeing to stay out, we have given Sendai a temporary advantage in the conflict. Sendai + Fukishima vs University is no contest. We might have to intervene to force Sendai to back down, one of the worst case scenarios.

Heres a short list of things that would be helpful to know (that I wrote up before the update):

- find about more about the university group; interests, nature, motives for seeking conflict etc.
- find out further details on why Ishinomaki is involved in the war, past grievances etc (update lowers importance)
- learn more on Sendai's operations and "mercenary" nature, to see how redeemable the senior members are.

I am a little hesitant on Mura's vote, I want to add more to it:
Mura's vote said:

Stray thought: can't we talk to University group over the phone and find out the details? Imply that we're a third party that might be interested in joining their side and ask for details of the conflict. It'd be faster and save us from dealing with a conflict in Sendai without relevant info. It could backfire which is why I'm not including it in the vote until more discussion is had.

[x] Exchange contact details with the Ishinomaki group i.e. cell phones numbers, emails etc.
[x] Ask the Ishinomaki group to inform their allies the University group that a neutral third party would like to meet them soon. Perhaps get the University group's contact details in the process.
[x] Last question: Ask the Ishinomaki group why Sendai would want to take over their city (at least that was what Sendai told us). Is there something Akiko wants? After all, Mitakihara is pretty much in between Sendai and Ishinomaki and until recently, much less well-defended. (Frame it as self-interest), wouldn't it be more logical to come after us? Or is "two years worth of skirmishes" all over Kato Setsuko?
[x] Muramasa's vote.
[x] When we arrive at Sendai attempt to open communication with the University group, and possible meeting.

I'm a bit leery of giving them advance warning directly- they may do something stupid. Also, Sendai's our first objective.

Why? We'd be in pretty much the same position as the last conversation. Just with a few extra pieces of information. We don't have much to bargain with apart from getting Ishinomaki to stay out. And since we have no idea what University wants we'd be at a disadvantage again, upon which Akiko feeds us her version of the story (and probably won't take us much more seriously either).

The plot thickens .... inb4 Kato is Hildegard. :p

Welp, Sendai's looking fishy and Ishinomaki's looking more reasonable; however, (playing devil's advocate here), we really don't have a reason to believe them when they say that Kato isn't hiding in the city. There also seems to be something odd about their ambush on Akiko. In this post they say:
"What's to tell? Chouko... ah... Tsubaki Chouko, from the University group comes and asks if we want to help put down the Sendai group. We agreed, of course, so we drop an ambush on Hamasaki-" the lines around her eyes tighten on the mention of the name "-when she came by."
Which sounds to me like they were recruited to spring an ambush from the beginning, but in the latest post they seem to contradict this and say:
"She called for a meeting, right, so I figured we should be the bigger person and agree. But then when we find her here early, skulking about and her two friends also skulking about... Like, wouldn't be the first time she's set up an ambush," she says, frowning.
Which sounds more like they were legitimately going to meet with her for some reason, then saw her early and decided to attack first on the basis that she was being suspicious.

Which one is it: You were going to ambush her from the beginning, or you were going to meet her but noticed her skulking about and pre-emptively counter-ambushed? Changing stories halfway through the conversation is a bit suspicious...or have I missed something and misunderstood the situation?

Anyway, conspiracy theory aside, as things stand now Sendai is going to back up their remaining members against the university group. We know that the University group contacted Ishinomaki for an assist, so perhaps then the quickest way to stop the fighting in Sendai is to have Ishinomaki contact the University group and convince them to withdraw. We could also use them to set up a meeting with University group so we can get the last POV of the conflict without having to kick their asses first.

So, with that in mind, I'll vote for []Muramasa if we throw in a line to the effect of:
[]Ask Ishinomaki if they can contact the University Group and convince them to back off from the conflict and/or to organise a meeting with us.
-[] if University Group does back off, let Sendai know that we got University Group to stand down for now, so no picking fights with them for a while, OK?

Edit* ninja'd by emdeman

Agreed that it is odd, but I suspect they were keeping their options open until they shadowrun'd seeing Sendai make preparations.

*shrug of IDK*
Could be nothing at all except a case of red car one scene, blue car next, but just struck me as odd.
Though as a side note, gonna need a list of all of these people by the end of this - so many names ....
