I have no idea if I've already missed the chance for this joke, but for the hell of it.

So the Constellation has been established. It has been founded.

So this chapter is the Constellation Foundation chapter.

And Japan is where the foundation of the Constellation took place...

Which makes Japan the Constellation Foundation Nation

...Anyone got any more "ations" to add to this?

The Constellation Reformation/Liberation Organisation for Emancipation and Aggravation Cancellation through Incubation Nullification (Unification and Appellation Optimization Deputation: Foundation Nation)

Or, the subcomitee responsible for uniting and naming the Japanese arm of the Constellation reformation and liberation organisation, a body dedicated to defending the peace and establishing liberty for magical girls worldwide by overthrowing Kyubey

EDIT: Decided to go all-head-full, but had to introduce some additional words and punctuation to stay on the right side of the narrow line that divides word-salad from verbal upchuck :D

How many things are different because of a wish?
Well one difference might be the blue/green/pink/violet hair and eye colors PMMM humans have probably being the result of some girl in the Stone Age wishing for unique hair and eye colors for herself and her friends, with the trait being passed down to there descendants.

Obviously the out of universe explanation is anime logic.

Also given that they are clear differences between PMMMverse and OTL outside of just magical girls such as holographic computers and for this quest in particular a less terrible Idol industry, would PMMM technically count as a quasi-alternate history instead of a secret history?

Ok gonna lay down a vote

Specifying dinner really doesn't help the packed schedule issue, since we've already got dinner booked for the next few days. There are lots of non-dinner times that we can talk to Shin. I think those times are actually preferable to dinner, since we'll be able to talk to him before Nagisa, and if he decides that some of our life choices (such as leaving babysitting duty to fight a group of supervillains) make us too dangerous to associate with or at least require some time to think, we won't have just upgraded Nagisa's opinion of us from figuratively fantastic to literally fantastic.

After Nagisa's departure, we need to buy that fucking smartphone. We have gone too long without an IRC app.

You are absolutely fucking right Torg.

*Hisses* the trouble is that dinner is probably Shin's natural time and us being able to make lunch with him at all is... Interesting? Hm. This requires thought.

What we really need is a degree. Preferably from hackerguca. That'd give us an excuse for why we're not in school. Which, um, yes, does imo have extensive utility even with people we tell we're a meguca.

Problem is that the standard for a degree may be much higher IC than OOC, due to the magic that gave us Fencier Schools. Which might be a problem if we picked a Math degree and other Math profs decided to start chatting about the solution to the Riemann hypothesis.

Yeah, okay, so: Shin social stuff. Time to talk about it.

Torg's right that dinner with him is terrible because it includes Nagisa and we want to talk Meguca. Thing is that applies to post-school hours in general and would mean lunch or a weekend. Our weekend is fucking packed and next weekend is far away.

Thing is we have not given him any clear indication we're not in school (to avoid, you know, scrutiny while we've had much more crucial stuff on our plate), and that means that being able to make a lunchtime with him is ?!? without a clear alibi for why we can do it.

I have actually been thinking about a degree for a long time now because, well, A) we can in fact talk the talk to back it up feat a number of people in this thread or who can be called up, B) it's an incredibly good excuse for why we're not in school at any given time, C) we're a foreigner and nobody is going to question us being weird in the manner of having a degree.

So one path of this imo is, we decide that our standard background story now includes having a degree, which isn't unreasonable imho and isn't something that can be poked through trivially if we get hackerguca to back it up bc people in this thread really do have degrees. And then we schedule a lunch with Shin using that as the reason why we can at all.

Option two that I've seen is, we do it by phone. Which I think is... Difficult? But prevents info leaking to Nagisa. That would preclude a lot of e.g. demonstrating that magic is real, which... I don't think is great.

I'm open to other ideas on this if people have them.

This is absolutely an issue but I think a BA in physics e.g. is probably sustainable. I think the odds of holes being poked in the story are low versus the yield of having it.

After school, Mami can keep Nagisa occupied while we talk to Shin. Or the other way around, with Mami giving the magic talk while we distract Nagisa. Or neither, and we just talk to him in a closed room and mute any sounds that try to leave the room, because we're magic and we can do that.

During school: "Shouldn't you be in school?"
"That's part of what I want to talk to you about."

During work: "Hey, Mika, is meeting with Momoe Shin a thing you can do? I want to show up with you and blow his mind."

Hrm. Those are possibilities... I'm not sure I like them -- this kind of reveal is best on the terms of the other person, I tend to think -- but they're something where I had nothing.

The work one is a joke. I don't see the problem with the other two. If you want Shin to be the one to figure out how to talk to us without Nagisa, then the answer is to let him do that and we need brainstorm no further.

Still think the work plan is possible, even if I wonder how to explain why we aren't telling him in person. Just my two cents here, but the longer we put off explaining (in person preferably) why we ditched Nagisa the scummier I feel.

We should see Shin's reaction first before making a decision. The other 2-3? times we had Nagisa over we didn't ditch her, so he likely realises it wasn't intentional. We also left her with Madoka whose mother he knows and we arranged transportation with her. He might be understanding and we can delay telling him. Worst case we can pull him aside to explain, while the others entertaining Nagisa. Kyubey would take care of anyone seeing our demonstration in public.

As for the degree. Is Mami's school the norm or just a ridiculously advanced school? Educational plans, requirements and past exams with the solutions are all publicly available online. (At least in my country) We could do some research and solve some exams to test our knowledge. Also we don't need a masters degree. At worst case a simple high school diploma should be enough to explain why we aren't in school. Also as far as I know schools don't usually let you test out this young. They found that making child geniuses attend university seriously erodes their ability to socialize with their peers, which harms them more in the long term. I don't know what's the policy in Japan, but it might be a good idea to get our degree from overseas. We can explain it as foreign weirdness and we have to worry less about accidentally meeting our supposed classmates.

Edit: I'm going to sleep now. I really should be in bed and I made way too many mistakes in this post. Good night, everyone! See you... well today.

Ok, so....
Remember Kuybey's assertation to Madoka that humans would probably still be living in cages without the Incubators' involvement.

Like was mentioned, no only do we have people with degrees here, but Firn is also a doctor in physics and we have the magic of our wonderous minds!!

I agree that doing some research into how advanced the schools are. Not just in Japan, but in America as well if we're gonna sell the whole foreigner with a degree thing.

And while a High School Diploma would explain why we aren't in school, an actual degree would have regular people listen to us more, since if all the schools are more advanced, then the colleges and universities must be insane.

Though remember, our knowledge doesn't have to be limited to whatever degree (or degrees!) we decide to get.

In the pursuit of this, I propose downloading in-universe Wikipedia in its entirety and doing a diff-check between that and our (IRL) copy of Wikipedia, just to watch out for gotcha's when picking however many degrees we want. Also, an outline of the coursework of whatever foreign degrees we want to fake, so we can download the relevant textbooks.

This is all assuming we can transfer data between our soon to be purchased smartphone and Sabrina's brain-server/cloud/collection-of-users-computers/magic-rock. If we can't right away, we need to figure it out soon to transcend the limits of matter:
[13:36:38] <GriefBeGone> Also, minor correction: I haven't transcended the limits of matter, I suppose, since I'm still *using* the keyboard. Maybe I should try plugging directly into the ethernet socket to manually flip bits...

To properly invest myself into quest-participation, I've begun re-reading the story-only thead on my tablet (there are far worse ways to spend time during lockdown), and during the first extended timestop (while hunting for Oriko and Kirika) I experienced a double-brainwave that jumped me out of bed to make this post.

Both relate to the issue of communications that are independant of Kyubey, which will be VITAL to our objectives of subverting/overthrowing the Incubators' systems of control.

The first brainwave occured at Mami's apartment, when Sabrina noticed that electrical devices still functioned within timestop, even though there should be no flow of electrons through the mains power to operate them.

I've jokingly mentioned enchanting cellphones to infuse them with magic, and if past experience proves that magic can indeed power electrical devices, the current proposal to go purchase a smartphone after seeing Nagisa off sounds like an ideal oppurtunity to put this established phenomenon under the experimental microscope.* At the very least, enchanting a phone might give us infinite battery life - and depending on the constraints of magic, potentially give us a access to magical or magic-enhanced comms that do not rely upon phone networks or Kyubey as an intermediary. An enchanted cellphone that communicates at a magical level, and which thus has unlimited signal strength at all times and places, would be an invaluable tool.

The second brainwave came from just observing Sabrina, Homura and Mami communicating at close range during timestop. Now, apologies if this has been suggested/disproved before, but I think this is an ABSOLUTELY vital experiment that should be carried out ASAP:

In short: DOES TELEPATHY WORK DURING TIMESTOP?

If it does, then this might support the theory that telepathy is not inherantly dependant on Kyubey/the Incubators, and is instead an inherant Meguca ability that they've hijacked or piggybacked on in order to control/suppress the spread of information. And if we can establish whether or not Telepathy works without Kyubey's participation, then it infers there could be a way to take BACK control or encrypt our messages so that the little white bunnyrat can't censor or listen-in on us!

* If we're worried about possibly damaging our brand-new smartphone through magical experimentation, just purchase a second cheap model and explain it to the store staff as being a 'backup/emergency' phone in case we misplace our first one - it can be our experimental testbed.

Wait, so the incubator abolished all prisons on his own? AMAZING

Damn, that was a typo that feels all too-IRL right now!

"...I don't have to explain shit."

Weirdly, I can totally picture Kyubey saying this in that cutesy little voice of his, and it just makes me smile - it sounds like the kind of ad-lib that belongs on the dub's blooper-reel (potentially in the scene where the bunnyrat lays the facts at Madoka's feet) :D

MADOKA: Why, why would you trick us like this?!
RATFACE: I don't have to explain shit /人◕‿‿◕人\

I'd like to find Kyubey while we're in time-stop and test telepathy where we can see him. I'm a bit worried that telepathy would count as touching him and bring him into the time-stop without us noticing.

I really don't think firn is up to writing an entire wikipedia database. At best we might get some interesting historical events that are different.
I mean if we do try to do something like this I only really want to check for gotchas like unsolved mathematics being solved or some other factoid that someone with a degree really should be familiar. Also coursework can be glossed over by only focusing on differences needed to make our degree plausible.
