If we're going to be fighting magical girls in a deadly manner, can we please be efficient about it and gem snipe as much as possible?
No. We're trying to save MGs, not kill them.

For now, our trump card is Kirika: Anti-magic followed by Mami's ribbons. We likely won't be sniping soul gems unless everything turns to shit.

-OMG-WTF-AND-WITH-THAT-SONG
No. Please oh god no. This thing should not be.
But on the other hand YES! It's perfect! I am slain!

And the update: Yes. All of my YES. I need meddling!nosy!supportive!shipper-on-deck!Kirika in my life. It's just too good. (where's a bunnycat when you need one...)

Meguca and Lich? Now all we need is the witch/lich-bomb and 'grief spiralling' and 'witching out' to catch on and EVERYONE will be speaking nerd with us. Do not be ashamed, do not fight it, it is inevitable. (Homu needs to get her Nerd on - disappointed in you Homu.)

Right, so, votes - we're going to "Nip this in the bud". What precisely does that entail?
Does 'nip it in the bud' mean going to Ishinomaki to extract Rin, Sakura and Akiko and then take them back to Mitakihara vicinity?
Or does it mean that we're going to try to meet up with Sendai and their agressors and try to come up with some way to get hostilities to stop?

What was the plan that was actually decided on for that vote?

Regardless, this vote is weighted a little more towards extraction than confrontation purely because planning an escape route if things deteriorate is something that we should do, and that we CAN do on the way (not much else to do on a magic carpet).

[x] Keep your senses open as you travel to see if there are any witches within range - should things go to hell, pursuit could be lost by entering a witch barrier. (Try to keep options for retreat in mind if teleport ain't an option - always be prepared.)
[x] Ask about the specifics of Kirika's powers. In particular, find out if she can selectively exclude others from being affected by the antimagic, as well as if she can direct the blasts in a specific shape like a cone instead of a radius.
[x] Discuss with Mami where specifically would be a good point in/around Mitakihara to extract the Sendai group to (Train station, maybe? That gets them out of the city quicker. Or any abandoned lot?).
[x] Check with Mami and Kirika as you get closer that they can't feel your grief carpet - stealth mode activated.
[x] Once at city limits organise rendezvous point with Sendai.
[x] Reiterate that you don't want any casualties if there is any other option - i.e. if fighting erupts we can form grief wall to cover retreat - be defensive rather than aggressive.
[x] Use grief senses to check for other Meguca in the area, but do not engage.
[x] If possible, (i.e. if no immediate danger to Sendai group) observe and get a feel for the situation before jumping straight in - E.g. check for potential hostiles/spies in the area; can you see where any fighting has occurred, what is the extent of the damage?

I assume that will carry us through to next vote and is a decent set up for either confrontation and negotiation or just plain extraction.
Edit* added 'ask Kirika' and 'use senses to detect Meguca'

Saving Kirika: 1000% worth it. Why is she so damn cute.

Regarding soul gem safety: them's the breaks of having your soul in a gem outside your body. I mean, we could probably surgically implant our gem into our torso or something and pull grief out through a cut that we heal over every time if we wanted to go true lichmode on Mami. Good news is everyone we're fighting will have the same problem, and we can sense the gem even if it's hidden.

And while we have the downtime, I think we should ask Kirika about her power, to see if she can either exclude Mami and Sabrina from the pulse or shape the pulse so that it doesn't hit us. NOT asking for a demonstration since we're flying obviously, just asking if she can do it. If she can, she can spend the trip practicing or something, it'll keep her busy.

If we don't see any witch barriers on the way... can we just MAKE a witch?

Edit: By that, I mean we have grief seeds and a whole ton of grief.

The possibility did cross my mind of using a grief seed as a 'reality marble' - but given that we do not know whether or not witches can be returned to Meguca, erring on the side of 'not killing anyone by accident that might still be saved' is a good way to go.

I mean we could get one of our grief seeds to hatch, then turn it back into a seed after we're done.

No fuss, no mess, hopefully no witched out girls

Since I'm too lazy to write it out again - from a couple hundred pages ago:
I'm starting to think that the constant removing/replacing grief into grief seeds is something we shouldn't do so frivolously. Imagine what that would be like for the witch/girl in there, even if she is unconscious, but especially if she is conscious. Something along the lines of:
Witch: I'm such an idiot.
Sabrina removes all grief.
Witch: Wow, somehow I feel much better. Like a weight that I hadn't noticed is gone. This is nice, and I reckon that maybe I coul-
Sabrina deposits even more grief.
Witch: THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS!!!!
Mami: ... Is that seed screaming at you...?
Sabrina: Nah, just your imagination.
That, but in reverse: dump grief in, then rekill witch.
*Trauma intensifies*

I said it before and I'll probably say it again. Kirika is way too adorable when she's not being murderous.

New information Get: Not terribly much this update, but we now know the names and powers of all the members within the Sendai crew. Additionally, we also know:
Groups that are already involved in the fighting:

Sendai Coalition:
  1. Sendai group: 5 members. Full information on group composition is now available. This is the only group which we have made direct contact with prior to this incident. The Sendai crew appear to be at the centre of this mess, and at this point in time are our only link into this war. Left to their own devices, they will show up in Mitaki tomorrow, and in doing so bring the war with them. Known members:
    • Waterbender: Akiko
    • Teleportation: Sakura
    • Healing: Rin
    • Forcefield: Tanaka Tamiko
    • Gravity Manipulator: Minami Yumi
  2. Fukushima Group: ??? members. Allies of the Sendai group, and will enter the war by the end of the day to bail out the 2 members stranded in Sendai. Capabilities unknown
Ishinomaki Alliance:
  1. Ishinomaki Group: ??? members. Currently fighting on their own turf, but motivation for joining this war is unknown at this point. There is a non-zero chance that they are being dragged into this war by the Tohoku group. Known powersets:
    • Earthbending: ???
  2. The Tohoku University Group, AKA the second Sendai group: 6 Members. Mami knows of these guys before. Aliies of the Ishinomaki group, and presumably are the instigators of this war. According to Mami, they have been planning an attack on the Sendai group since the previous year, though the reasons for this attack presently remains unknown. Known members and powersets:
    • Invisibility: ???
    • Flight: ???
    • Plant control: ???
    • ???: Ayano Chika
    • ???: Umeko Yuko
Groups that are not currently involved:
  1. Onegawa Group: ??? members. Future members of the Sendai Coalition. Capabilities unknown.
  2. Tokyo Group: ??? members. Future members of the Sendai Coalition, second to join up. Capabilities unknown. Please don't be the Tokyo 6
  3. Osaki Group: ??? members. Future members of the Ishinomaki Alliance, first new party to join up on their side. Capabilities unknown
  4. Tome City Group: ??? members. One of their members used to be part of the Tohoku University group, but left for whatever reason. They have a grudge against one of the parties involved in this war, most likely the Sendai Group. Will join the war on the side of the Ishinomaki Alliance in the near future. Capabilities unknown.
Unaffiliated power sets:
  • Technology control: ???
  • Electricity: ???
  • Telekinesis: ???
Additional notes:
We are currently heading to Ishinomaki, where Rin, Sakura and Akiko are currently trapped by the Ishinomaki alliance. Ishinomaki is one of two battlefields in this war, the other being in Sendai, but according to Oriko the fighting in Sendai is currently in a lull.

Territory is the spark that lead to this war, but it's not solely about territory. It is clear that several parties are using this war as an excuse to settle old grudges; the Tohoku group in particular have been itching for a fight with the main Sendai group at least since the previous year.

As of this point, only half of the 8 groups are involved in the fighting. Depending on the timescales involved, if we act now, we can prevent the fighting from escalating any further.

First casualty in three days time.

Up next: Battle plans

I'm pretty sure they will save the two girls still in Sendai that are attacked by the University group there.
Some pages ago, Kinematics pointed out that the Sendai group is currently split with the three we know personally in Ishinomaki (Rin, Sakura and Akiko), while the other two are still in Sendai where they are stalling the University group until Fukushima arrives to save them.

I was under the impression that the fighting in Sendai is currently in a lull, and the Fukushima group are called in to bail out the guys in Ishinomaki. I'll update the list if you can get me a source.

Can we just threaten to grief them until they all calm down?

If tensions escalate, we steal all their soul gems and see if we can poke around to make them cooperate.

It's in a quote from Oriko somewhere in the middle of Kinematics post.
Directly under Back to quotes:
Kinematics post

Edit: The first quote also suggests that there still is ongoing fighting in Sendai itself or at least a stalemate.
