[X] Check the time when you leave. If it's after ten, call Kyouko. Otherwise, see what you can fit into the gap.

Cutting off the plans to visit, because I do think we need to do this. Today.

Yes, there is disagreement here. But I do think the science angle can help us figure things out just as much as the social angle. I'd argue that it has certain advantages, even, because knowing even a little can help us avoid falling into traps if we try to talk with Homura about it.

Also: I want to make feeding Aurora after we drop Mami off at school a regular, consistent thing. It's a good a time as any for it, and I want to do a long term experiment on what happens if Aurora is fed magic.

Though my real reasons here are that, if nothing else, I expect it would a nice thing to do for her at this stage and help her to be in a better place when we figure out how to make contact, and I certainly don't think it will do any harm.

So we robbed the Yakuza again, huh?

...The next time we to that, I kind of hope we get a cameo from Kazuma Kiryu or Goro Majima from the Yakuza series.

For this, I'd support Socialz over SCIENCE!!! Mainly because the social things we're doing (talking with Kyoko and Yuki) are all things that should happen sooner rather than later. Science won't get harder if we wait to do it, but social issues will. I'd much rather visit Kyoko and Yuki than get science done, so this bit
If its before 10:00, see if griefhax can learn anything about the Feather.
Isn't something I would vote for, as it replaces talking with Kyoko and Yuki with Science. However, this:
Feed Aurora while you make your way across town.
is better; we don't lose any time doing it. You

I'll point out that I wrote that "if it's before 10:00, then science" line with the specific intent that we'd be meeting Kyouko around ten. (Since when we last tried at nine, she'd been sleeping in.)

With something like this, I expect Sabrina to go into a trance and possibly miss out on Kyoko time if we SCIENCE!!! with Feathers. It would be fine if we knew for sure that we wouldn't go into a trance-if we could be sure there would be no trance, we could just stop sciencing whenever-but with Feathers especially I don't want to risk it. Maybe this afternoon, after lunch with everyone?

Also, your vote doesn't have anything about calling Kyoko/Yuki if it is 10:00 or later, or if it reaches 10:00 while we're experimenting.

Well, if that's your concern I'll note that we do actually have a method to bypass trance time. The Chibi we made from enchanted grief took only a moment of focus, rather than the usual... what, ten minutes? What it lacks in trance time, it seems to cost about half as much again or so in time spent enchanting grief, but that's a process that we're aware for and which can be stopped at any time.

As to the rest, honestly I didn't include it, or even much in the way of details on the experiment itself, because I expect the update break to occur when we leave Oriko's place. Firn has outright stated that each and any of these meeting would require a full update in its own right after all. Kind of a habit born of trying to weigh wordcount optimization against making sure all the points are actually in the update.

Though on further thought, the same idea could be put as:
[] Check the time when you leave. If it's after ten, call Kyouko. Otherwise, see what you can fit into the gap.

What would a "precog enchantment" look like?
Perhaps this?...

As you may know, in our travels throughout the galaxy
we Melnorme have found many strange and interesting alien artifacts.
One of these devices is the MetaChron, a kind of trans-time alarm system.
In a nutshell, it warns me of future dangers by predicting its own demise
which is most likely linked to my own well being, since I keep it under my pillow.
The unit is a small pyramid and, when all is well, white in color.
But if we are proceeding along a timeline which will eventually result in the destruction of the MetaChron
the unit slowly darkens. Presumably, it will be destroyed at the same time as it turns completely black.

I think Oriko's basic magic, at least in PMAS, is to be forewarned of danger.

She was really shocked when that rice we prepared them for breakfast plopped on her head.

You remain on the floor, watching as the rice slooooowly detaches from the ceiling and plops square onto Oriko's head.

The seer flinches, her eyes going wide
. Kirika giggles, sweeping the rice clear with a few brisk pats.

You sit up, running your finger along your collar and tugging to loosen it. Ugh. It itches, and the warm soup steadily soaking through the cloth to form a damp, sticky patch against your skin doesn't help.

"Ugh," you say.

Kirika unwinds herself from Oriko and glances over, finally looking at you properly before returning to flicking bits of rice off herself. It takes her a moment for what she just saw to sink in, and her head snaps back to you. "Is that a maid outfit?" she asks.

"Nooooooyeeeessssssss?" you say.

Kirika gives your costume a long, thoughtful look before turning back to the girl at your side. "Orikoooooo- Oriko?" the playful tone abruptly vanishes from her voice.

You glance up.

"My visions didn't warn me," the seer whispers, swaying as she raises one hand to her temple. Her eyes are huge and shocked.

Kirika pulls her into a wordless hug. "Y-your power?" she whispers.

"Going," she whispers. "They're weakening."

If she can make enchantments with this effect, even if it wasn't quite battle precog, it could be quite valuable to have.

Now that there's no longer a discord to mull in, I guess I'm doing it in thread. Got to Sendai again and had some thoughts:

When Oriko is viewing the future of Sendai, we see this bit.

"Right," you say, "But it's important to know. Next question - what's the casualties like?"

"In the immediate aftermath... four... dead," Oriko answers, this one coming quick, as if she'd expected it, though she hesitates a little over the word 'dead'. You can guess why. A sidelong glance at Mami - she swallows, face growing pale again. "In the longer term... another nine, by month's end."

"And the collateral?" you ask grimly.

"A dozen city blocks levelled, across Sendai, and Ishinomaki," Oriko answers.

You can't help but think that that's... not terrible, for what amounts to a war. "What's the chances of them triggering off something bigger? If they have someone who can make earthquakes..."

That startles Oriko. "What? Low-" she twitches, back arching slightly. "High. It's not during the fight. It comes after."

Originally, I'd thought the aftermath was the conflict's resultant witches, which would likely come as a result of becoming a conglomerate witch, but now I'm wondering.

Witches are certainly obvious and possible, but it occurs to me that if this was Feathers instead it fits into a potential pattern: It would imply that Feathers tends to act in the moment or wake of a tragedy. After Walpurgisnacht's arrival, with the attendant destruction and loss of human life; In the wake of the Sendai/Ishinomaki meguca war, that would have cost 13 girls their lives/humanity and leveled nearly as many city blocks by the end of the month; The moment of Sayaka's death at (what is probably) Rionna's hands, which Oriko's arson prevented.

It might also inform which side of the old lines speculation Feathers reason for interfering during Our Benefactor, implying it might be less "our barrier did this" and putting more weight on Mami's reaction. (After all, Mami was "only" at a third of her capacity ... but Feathers did something in our barrier.)

The only event I can remember right now that doesn't fit the pattern is the event on the 26th that results in the disappearance of Oriko and Kirika.

Of course, if it goes as far out as Sendai and Ishinomaki then, well the world is full of tragedies... and Kyuubey was suddenly very busy in the days after we first showed up.

If Feathers does have an interest outside Mitakihara, It may be worth asking Nadia or outside groups (Such as the IRCS) if there's any rumors of what looked like reality warping accompanied by signature feathers have started showing up in the wake of things going down. Likewise, if Feathers responds to tragedy, to suffering, then I wonder if our grief --- as human suffering made manifest --- isn't trying to form into feathers when we let it go.

...Kinda tempted to add a bit to the vote asking Oriko if she remembers what was behind the massive collateral damage that would have come in the aftermath of Sendai now.

Thought: Instead of Feathers, it could be the Iowa group, or any other random evil group of wandering meguca.

With so many meguca dead/Witched... that leaves all the cities they come from as easy prey, so it's possible multiple raiding groups would move into Japan and attack a multitude of cities. Not just that, but if KB doesn't make new contracts, a lot of Witches will pop up due to Familiars feeding on people practically unimpeded.

A boom in Witch birth and a bunch of hostile meguca seeking easy prey... that would be disastrous, too.

Oriko's words and our question strikes me as the result of something with a specific focus on earthquakes and/or disasters: Be it a souped up/conglomerated version of Inoue Yuuna's witch or feathery intervention.

I suppose it's possible that Iowa could be a magical girl group running around and threatening to hit cities with large scale disasters in order to ransom them for supplies, but it's not what my first association would be in this case. For one thing, sweeping in in the aftermath seems like it would lend itself to grudging acceptance of the situation, rather than resistance.

I don't think the earthquakes are necessarily related; we worried about those because of RL stuff, but those worries are unfounded in PMAS, the reactors are better prepared against natural disasters than they are IRL.

What matters is that something happens after the meguca all kill each other, that there's a consequence beyond that death, (and conjecture) most likely because of that death. I guess we could ask Oriko if she remembers what she saw there, we kind of got interrupted after that question.

okay, been away for a bit, so I'm gonna need to catch up, but it looks like we have some kind of incoming threat?

Have we ever tested whether another magical girl can apply their own enchantments to our grief?
Since we're asking Kirika to make us some enchantments, would it be possible to have Kirika directly enchant some of our grief with anti magic?

... Wouldn't that mean Soul Snuggles? Nothing against Soul Snuggles with friends! But it's definitely breaking new grounds. Maaaaybe we could try something like this at some point.

Actually, the Pleiades will probably do this at some point, since 'canonically' they do all sorts of mixed magic stuff. We can offload the discovery process to them. :p

BY THE WAY, @Redshirt Army, I think you were saying the other day that it'd be great if we could disconnect a meguca directly from their Soul Gems quickly in combat? Or something like that? I remember something. Two somethings:

You still have no real idea how to channel magic, as opposed to simply exerting your will on Grief - that comes naturally to you, like moving another arm. Still, maybe if you try to tweak a little of the magic in your body...

You focus on your hand and twist with your will... and you yelp as your hand goes completely dead, all feeling leaving it. Your hand droops on the end of your arm as you flail it about wildly. You hastily let go, and feeling returns to your hand in a rush of pins and needles.

... well, you suspect that if you should one day need to play dead, you can probably accomplish that very easily.

You grimace. That was rather unpleasant, though.
First is that we already know how to disconnect parts of our own body.

Second is that the Pleiades in PMKM all know a 'spell' (Tocco del Mare / Touch of Evil) that's basically an instant, contact spell that disconnects a Magical Girl from their body.

Which sounds like what we did to our body, but developed and applied to someone else as a whole.

Imagine if we could apply this through our Grief... Fog.
