"So what's next, Sakura-sempai?" Sayaka asks, using the break to pop out power gems - the ones she'd used during the fight.

"OK first, f-" Kyouko snorts, choking herself off and glancing at Yuma. She flicks her attention back to Sayaka, watching her motions with an evaluating look.
First, does Kyouko has KyouSaya on the mind and that's a glance back at tsundereness accusations? Or is that just no swearing around kids?

Second, apparently the power storage gems are consumed by retrieving the powers.

Third... It occurs to me that this training thing is probably great for Kyouko's mental health. She's been alone and living aimlessly on the streets for a whole now. This gives her not just people to talk to but a purpose. Not a particularly grand purpose, but something that she can make progress on every day and feel satisfied about. That's a huge boost.

Is Sabrina any good with her fists? Warhammers don't seem ideal for this.

Well, I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, I'm a master of gorilla warfare, I have over 300 confirmed kills as a sniper, and I can kill people in 700 different ways with my bare hands alone.

Surely Sabrina will have access to my skills in hand-to-hand, right? Skills that I'm totally not lying about! :V

You know, I know a lot of people put a lot of stock in letting Sayaka handle "converting" Kyouko. But... I begin to wonder if Yuma isn't a bit of an obstacle to that.

Kyouko isn't even willing to swear around her. There won't be any of the stuff she said in the anime being said around here with that in play.

On top of that, we exist and Sayaka is on our friggin team. The old cards about "only hard gucas live through being gucas"... They don't really apply, and Kyouko knows it on some level.

If we really want to convert Kyouko -- and, more than that, to get her to make up with Mami -- I dunno if this alone will be enough. I don't think that if we leave it at this, we can expect Blueberry to just magically win Kyouko over. There's no exchange of ideals going on here, no talking about morals, or right and wrong. None of the dynamics from the anime are in play that lead to Kyouko's redemption -- not between Sayaka and Kyouko, anyway.

Do I think it'll never go anywhere? No, I don't think that. But I think it's going to take a looooong time going at the rate it is.

... In point of fact, I think a lot of the Sayaka-Kyouko interactions from the anime have already happened between Sabrina and Kyouko. No, not the shipping, the redemption parts. What was it Kyouko said about Sayaka in the anime? "You reminded me of how I used to be?" Between us and Yuma, I think a lot of that has already happened. Certainly enough that when Kyouko ran into Sayaka a couple nights back IC, she acted the way she did. I can easily imagine a harder Kyouko reacting to that, trying to convince Sayaka to "toughen up" instead of helping Sayaka blow off steam. Anime Kyouko: "This is being a guca and the sooner you realize that the better." Pmas!Kyouko: "Brina just makes you wanna punch her sometimes, don't she?"

So, here's my latest idea (which may have been previously stated? Dunno.)

I think we should metabomb Kyouko.

And lichbomb her, because we've never done that as far as I can tell. Certainly not when we told her Kyubey had been using Mami.

I think we should go over to Kasamino early tomorrow (activities permitting?) and friggin metabomb Kyouko. Because... If we take what I'm saying about the Saya-Kyouko anime interactions and extrapolate, it follows that the best way to handle Kyouko is to confront her about things.

Also we kinda owe it to her.

Seven thousand, as agreed on - oh, and Sayaka, pass her the ring?"

$70? That little... Huh. That wouldn't even pay for a night at a hotel, would it? Gold would, ofc...

leaving away nothing

The thing is, Sayaka doesn't have to redeem Kyouko in this timeline. Yuma is already doing that. Taking care of her is forcing Kyouko to be a better person.

I haven't been watching the thread lately, just reading the story posts, so this might have already been answered but @Firnagzen, will you be using characters from Magia Record?

What works in hand to hand for a swole Navy Seal, might not be as effective for a tall teenager.

Can Gorilla's contract and make a wish to be the dominant species?

I like how nobody's taking offence at the implication Yuma's better than us at melee. :p

"Fine," you grump. "So it's my turn to spar with Sayaka? You remember I'm not very good at melee, right?"

"Yep, and that's perfect," Kyouko says, grinning and leaning on her spear. "Honestly, wouldn't be fair with me and Yuma."

[] Fight...
- [] Full force. Sayaka's better than you at this. Fair warning, though.
[] After training...
- [] Bring up the Nakano thing.
- [] Head back.
--[Q] Ask Sayaka if she wants to stay and live with Kyouko.
- [] Karaoke!

So we need songs.

Ehhh, I don't think Sabrina is as bad at Melee as we say we are. Yes, we have been beaten, but that doesn't exactly mean we are bad at it. Just roughly average at it. Part of the problem is that we aren't really creative at Melee, often we sorta default to Sabrinapilot for it, which is sorta hurting our chances. As well as this automatic idea that "melee is our worst stat" which is psyching ourselves out.

Things we could do are:

Fight "dirty" with headbutts and grappling. Sayaka prefers fencing range and tries to keep to her sword, we could bum rush her to get in her guard so she can't use it.

Overclock our muscles even farther than what is 'safe' for a burst of strength

use our Malleable Enchant on a hunk of rock, pull off a bit and slap it around a hand to keep her from using it. She'd either have to stop what she's doing to break the rock off, or go on essentially without a hand.

Malleable Enchant our Hammer and sorta 'fling' the head off at Sayaka.

Grief is not our only weapon, we just crutch on it a bit hard.

We are bad at melee as in most every other magical girl is just better at it. It's not that Sabrina doesn't have skills, she's just not a melee fighter. She's a slow wizard type of fighter.

We beat Kirika with pure melee, back when Kirika was still new and green. I expect she would wreck us now.

This merits a re post. :p
Maybe she's trolling us? Trolldoka is best 'doka.

'Magical Girls in Karaoke Parlour.'

Yes, we have been beaten, but that doesn't exactly mean we are bad at it.

Sayaka beat us at a melee spar *the day after she contracted*, after we'd already been a guca for more than a week, including the fighting at Sendai.

Since then, we have literally never won a melee match against her, with Mami judging her to be improving by leaps and bounds.

She *sucessfully cornered us in melee* despite us having a constant minimap of her position and significantly more mobility.

Don't make excuses - either Sayaka is some kind of impossible prodigy (which Kyouko and Mami's reactions point against) or we're hot garbage at melee.

Which is fine - if we were allowed to use our grief, we could probably beat Sayaka and Kyouko working together while slouching against a rock and not moving the entire time.

Shouldn't a warhammer be useful and breaking through blocks?

As in Warhammer vs sword - hammer wins?

or is that more vs shields?

We're a squishy wizard. Our full-force is their middling or soft-ball. Without our grief, we're just not that dangerous to other meguca in combat. I say full force.

Edit: Hell our only real advantage is how smart Sabs is. And even then, despite her protests, Sayaka is not stupid, and if it comes down to a fair melee battle on flat ground? We're done.
