[Q] Telepathy Mami. She isn't going to hurt me. Please don't tie her up- it'll only make her more difficult to calm down.
-[Q] But if she hurts me, go to town on her!

[Q] "B-because..."
-[Q] Blush.
--[Q] "Because I love you, Sayaka."

"Wut."

"Why did you think I'm so annoyed at Kwyjibo all the time? I couldn't ever get past my first love, you, and I can't bear to hurt you. Because... you're special-"

*BRIGHT SLAP*

*CRACK*

"OW!"

"Shit! Did I break something? Besides the table, I mean."

*Rubs cheek*

"Nothing feels broken here."

"I swear I heard something break."

"That was just Mami's heart over there."

*Paralyzed gaping*

"Uh... I didn't think this through."

"Do you ever?"

"Pfff, have you met me?"

[X] Hang there calmly. Place your hands over hers.
[X] In a calm and gentle tone, "I am telling you, Sayaka. I waited to do so because that idiot was trying to save your life from something she saw in the future. She's a precognitive, so knew we would be there to save your family. I waited because I wanted you to have some distance from it, because I didn't want you to charge off after them for revenge and either die or become a murderer. If she hadn't been trying to help you, stupidly misguided as she was, I would have killed her myself to spare you from that."
[X] Emphasize that Oriko is conceited, and foolish, but she's not evil- she was trying to save lives, in her own misguided way- many people, including Sayaka, would be dead now if it weren't for their actions since their arrest.

"Yes," you confirm, jaw tight. "Sayaka, are you OK?"

"I-" Sayaka scowls, furious. "How can you take it so calmly? She-"

"Sit down, Sayaka," Hitomi snaps, voice cracking like a whip. "Hear Sabrina out."

Sayaka stares at Hitomi. The verdette's backed away from the broken glass, arm rising across her chest like she's trying to fold her arms but forgot that one's in a cast. She settles for glaring back at Sayaka, and then you.

You're the last one still sitting. "No, that's alright," you say, standing. Broken glass cascades off your legs and skirt, falling to the floor with little tinkling noises. Something to clean up later.

You meet Sayaka's eyes. "She's also the one who burned your house down," you say. "That's wh-"

"What?!" Sayaka snarls. She storms forward, heedless of the glass, and grabs you by the front of her shirt. "She- she's the one- she nearly killed my parents and- you- you didn't tell me-"

She's all but shaking in anger.

[] Write-in

It rather seems to me that Sayaka is primarily irked at us for two reasons: how calm we're being and that we didn't tell her about this earlier.

I realize that's quite obvious, yes.

Uhm. But, she's taking that and trying to do her usual thing -- Sabrina did something wrong, Sabrina is wrong.

Defusing that is probably accomplished by the votes we're looking at atm.

I'd like to see something addressing the calm issue, though, because currently votes aren't doing that, and we really didn't do it in the last post. And it's also pretty easy to address, because it boils down to "We spent 16 or so hours in a timestop being angry, emotional, and wary right after we got you out of the fire. Homura put a bullet through Oriko's head. We checked on you in the ambulance during the timestop. You and your parents are alive and well. I've already been angry, Sayaka."

(Censor or reduce as needed).

"Because I knew you were going to react exactly like this. Up until a few days ago you probably would've sold your soul on the spot and gotten a power designed for murdering people. Neither of those is acceptable. Now I have a chance to stop you before you make a mistake. She's paying for her crimes.

"As for the being angry part, well, I already did that. We spent sixteen hours in time-stop with Homura hunting her down, and then we blew her head off and dismembered her. And then I tortured her to make sure we weren't missing anything. You may also want to take a leaf out of Hitomi's book - smashing Mami's furniture out of rage isn't particularly just.

*Puts down table leg*

"Aw..."

Uh... that's perhaps over doing it... Just a little.

*feels a little sick*

No.

I dislike the "because I didn't want you to contract" response. It's... it's true but the motive it embodies is impure. People don't respond well to "it was for your own good" equivalents.

The torture is not acceptable. It was not torture. Threatening torture, maybe. We did not blow her head off. And this is not the point of my suggestion, whatsoever, because it is emphasizing the actions we took for the sake of their emphasis.

I do like being slightly blunt to begin with, answering Sayaka's claims that were being bloodless and calculating by getting a little bit hot ourselves. Adding in an extreme enough proposal usually gets people to back down and reassess their arguments, too, which we want here. However, the Vebyast lines are maybe a little much. Maybe:

[] Bluntly: "Because Homura wanted--still wants, actually--to summarily execute her, and I was afraid you'd agree with her. You do have a bit of a violent temper." Glance pointedly down at shirt, and broken glass.

Kaizuki brings up a valid point - "calm" is part of the problem.

My take on the gattai:

[X] Telepathy Mami. She isn't going to hurt me. Please don't tie her up- it'll only make her more difficult to calm down.
[x] "I'm telling you now. Things kept coming up, but... I won't make excuses. I should have told you sooner, and I'm sorry I didn't."
[X] Tired tone of voice. "Calm... Maybe I'm calm. I think it's more like I'm spent."
-[X] "We spent almost 16 hours straight in stopped time scouring all of Mitakihara to find them. Nearly killed them both, interrogated them, and I... I had to threaten Kirika to get her to surrender in the end. I'm not proud of what I did, but they weren't a threat anymore. And you were already safe. We'd stopped her and Kirika's plans and she'd... I'd made her surrender."
--[x] Tell her we didn't want her to Contract, and that we thought she might, if she knew, if she got involved even further in magical matters, even if it cost her soul, even if she knew it'd mean a life of fighting to survive. But, given what happened... Now we just wanted her to come to terms with her Contract before dropping this on her.
--[x]But we didn't have the right to make that call; Sayaka and Hitomi both deserved to know earlier. We're sorry we kept this from them.

We did not blow her head off.

We as in "Sabrina" didn't, but we as in "the group hunting Oriko" totally did. Homura wasn't fooling around in that fight - Oriko was decapitated.

Ehhhh. Saying she'd outright murder Oriko will come across as a grave insult- because it is. Not the way to go right now.
Sayaka just lost her temper, broke a friend's table, and hasn't apologized for it, maybe hasn't even noticed yet. A little correction is called for here.

We in this thread have a bad habit of apologizing too much, and in this case it's likely to be especially ineffective. Sayaka tends to walk over and ignore people who aren't at least a little firm with her, and we need to not be dismissed here.

Correction is not the same thing as saying her outburst is reason to suspect she'd be a murderer. If we shoot back with essentially "Well, someone has a shitty temper and we thought you'd break more than a table that time." we're going to make Sayaka crush our shoulder bones before Mami binds her ass to the wall so fast she loses the deposit on her apartment.

also, the redshirt gattai is solid.

[ ] "Yes I am telling you. That's what this is right now. I've been trying to tell you since I found out, but coordinating these things is difficult. I caught her, I cut her head off, I stopped her, I made her surrender, and she's in the prison I made for her. She doesn't even have powers right now, she's completely defenseless. Do you want to go murder her for the crime of saving a bunch of people's lives in a stupid way that hurt people? Is that justice? You're the wronged party here. Tell me what makes this right again and how much more needs to be done. Talk me through what you want to do and why she deserves it. Then we can go talk to Madoka about it and see what she thinks. And if everyone's on board, we'll go with it. Okay?"

I forgot, does Mami even know the full extent of what was done to Oriko (other than us threatening to Witch Out Kirika)?

We can't really respond to this with an angry rant about how we beat the crap out of her. Nor can we accuse her of wanting to kill her.
[X] Contemplate how much easier life would be if Sayaka wasn't around.
[X] Give in to the templation and crush her soul gem.

But less problems than quickly communicating. :)

Joke votes have "Q" in the bracket.

I wasn't aiming for angry there, but calm and firm. With a touch of "What would Madoka do?"
-[ ] "I can be calm about it because for you it's fresh but for me, I thoroughly took care of it already and have been dealing with it for some time by now. My wound has healed. Let's talk about yours."
Nor can we accuse her of wanting to kill her.
Asking is not an accusation.

Re-read your vote. It's pretty damn accusatory without even considering you're the one bringing up murder, then throwing the idea at Sayaka.
I don't see it, but It's clearly being interpreted that way by people who are not me, so I'll assume it's less than favorable. Vote retracted.
