[X] Make sure that Mami is registering what you're saying before starting. Shouldn't need to be said, but there it is.

Screw complex plans. Sabrina is being honest with Mami about her past and her feelings, dammit.

This flows fucking terribly from last post.

End of last post:

You force yourself to look Mami in the eyes. Bound up as you are, Mami lying on your chest as she is, you have to tilt your head up in a rather uncomfortable position. But you do it. You meet her eyes squarely. "I'm sorry, Mami," you whisper. "I'm sorry. I-I had to be h-honest with you and I n-never wanted to hurt you. I'm so, so sorry, Mami."

"S-sabrina," Mami whispers, curling her arms yet tighter around you, enough that you actually feel the strain. Tears soak through the ribbons, through your blouse. "I-I- please- promise me- p-promise me- you mean it. I-I- please- I have n-nothing l-left, I- p-promise me."

"I mean it, Mami," you whisper past the lump in your throat. "I promise. I, I'm so sorry for all the p-pain. I mean it, I-"

The ribbons fall away, and Mami throws her arms around you with a sharp wail. Your arms come up instinctively, wrapping behind her back and pulling her close to you. One hand goes behind her head, cradling her gently as she sobs into your shoulder. Tears and mucus soak your shirt and skin.

Your own tears join hers.

"I'm s-sorry," you whisper brokenly. "I'm so, so s-sorry. I never meant to hurt you, I'm sorry."

Your vote does not do a good enough job of responding to the last thing Mami said. The content could stand to be used, but its current format just...

Suggestions. Red is must-have. Purple is just a bit of wording change that I personally would do but it's not terribly important. Yellow is same as red but may need re-wording depending on how strong it should come off.

[] Hold onto Mami tightly. Turn the grief that you're pulling from your soul gems into solid grief, so it stops pinging Mami's senses as much.
[] "I just wanted you to be happy. I still do. When I woke up in that alleyway, I knew things about you and the others like you might from reading a story about everyone, bits and pieces, at a remove. I didn't know anything about myself, but I knew enough about you and the others to decide that I wanted you all to be happy, to stay happy. I knew that you were lonely, and I knew why, and so I wanted to make it so you weren't lonely any more. I wanted to make you happy, I didn't expect you to make me happy. I don't want to lose that, Mami. I don't want to lose you. So if you're asking me not to leave you, I can promise: I won't. Because you make every day brighter for me, Mami, just by being you.

So uh, reading this

She confesses, in a fit of emotion, baring her soul to this girl she feels she's known for half her life, hoping beyond hope that this time, it doesn't go bad, but knowing that it will, that Sabrina, on seeing how pathetic Mami is, will walk away. Like everyone else.

But she doesn't.

Sabrina picks her up, tells her she's a wonderful person, that she's helped people. That she's worth something.

And Mami lets herself believe.

She lets herself believe that one day she can live up to Sabrina.

And then this

Then Sabrina says she has something to tell her. Something awful, from the way she acts.

Her worst fears come to life.

That Sabrina knew her from the beginning. From a distance.

Like Kyuubey said: Sabrina was a good actor.

She has nothing left.

Feels like Mami is letting herself believe we were just sayin that she was a good person. Best counter to that I can think of remains stressing that over time we've grown more affection for her.

I suppose I should expect that level of overwrought in talking to a 15 year old, but don't you think it's a little much?

I think this is edging from "I will not abandon you" to "we are one true soulmates and you will never have a relationship which is as meaningful". Which.... no.

Let's not, in Sabrina's understandable desire to say whatever she has to in order to ease Mami's pain, end up saying things that we will regret. I know everyone wants to ease her pain, but clinging solely to Sabrina as a life preserver is ultimately not healthy and we should not use words that will push her in that direction either.

I... guess it's a question of perspective? Would walking her through the early, early days from our perspective help? Reassure her that we really do, honestly, care about her - that that was never faked?
I'd say yes.
On a somewhat related note, my own preference for getting across tricky information is by telling a story. Little bits of information gets revealed over time, rather than all at once. The thoughts running through your head, and the justification for the choices you make are all easier to convey if you can get them imagining themselves in your place.

Admin issue -- you're going to need to tinker with lines one and two to get the right effects, probably.

You're so sorry, you never wanted to hurt her -- not the right lead line. We should focus on the positives here, and this still presents the issue of not flowing from last update (I think). Just delete it this! It doesn't add anything.

Line four is supposed to be part of line two, at least from the perspective from which i originally suggested the merge.

None of that was an act, or fake -- I keep considering stuff like this and then I go, "nah." I... It always raises the question of what was fake. And the honest fact of the matter? Nothing was. Not anything that mattered. It's not hugely important, though.

"And... Yes," -- no. We shouldn't be hesitating to admit things at all right now. Delete.

And you promise... Stay by her side -- way, way too much. Dipping too heavily on the promising and not enough on the giving of reasons that onmur keeps pointing out is the crucial thing to be doing but nobody seems to be acting on.

Will edit w/ proposed changes in a sec

...is it weirdhorrible that I think this makes sense in Sabrina's current state. Glubbering, sad, and incoherent because of it, and so she just says this instead? Heck, maybe all of her words.
Sure, but it's not "competent" or "efficient" enough for SV. There's not enough biggatons in having an emotional range wider than a cartoon villain.

Hmm...

=====
This is the mind of Tomoe Mami.

She is lonely. Her loneliness defines her.

All she does stems of that loneliness. That she pushes herself ever harder to present herself as the perfect magical girl is borne of a desire to be looked up to. That she adopts and helps people is obvious.

And every time, they leave her.

It wounds her deeply, every time, another crack in her perfection she desperately shores up.

And yet, she picks another, and tries again.

Kyuubey, perhaps her only constant friend (and even then, not much of one, but one she clings to for a lack of anyone else), brings to her news of a new potential in town, one with gargantuan potential.

And so, Tomoe Mami steels herself to try another time.

Perhaps it'll go better this time.

And then comes the white haired foreigner.

Sabrina.

And she's perfect.

Everything that Mami could have ever hoped for. She needs help; poor dear hardly remembers herself. She's cheerful, friendly, and just as happy to have a friend. She's more than willing to help Mami out in a hunt. She's a terrifyingly powerful magical girl, and more than strong enough to hold her own in a fight. She has a unique power that makes her amazing.

And she's perfectly happy to go along with Mami. She lives together with her, sees her off in the mornings, and then goes on hunts with her. She's even charismatic enough to do what Mami never believes she could, and helps to mend bridges with the other magical girl in town. They banter together, and tease like they've known each other for years.

But.

But.

Mami begins to realize...

Perhaps Sabrina doesn't need her. Sure, she's a little reckless, but she has power and then some to blow through obstacles. Sure, she's a little rude, but she's happy and cheerful and charismatic that people can't help but like her. Sure, she tends to go off on the oddest of tangents, but it's just enough to be cute, on her.

Perhaps Sabrina doesn't need broken old Mami, when she shines far brighter than Mami ever could.

That if she keeps at it, she can be as good a person as Sabrina says she is.

Perhaps it'll go better this time.

She doesn't think she can take it if it doesn't.

And so it goes.

They live together, they fight together. She doesn't mind much that Sabrina has to go do her own things, too. She can't be tied down all the time with her, after all.

Mami believes, and it is perfect.

And so it goes...

Then Sabrina says she has something to tell her. Something awful, from the way she acts.

Her worst fears come to life.

That Sabrina knew her from the beginning. From a distance.

Like Kyuubey said: Sabrina was a good actor.

She has nothing left.

It's always interesting to see Sabrina from another perspective. Hopefully we get more. Also, that little bit about Mami feeling like she's known her was pretty heartwarming.

IMO, part of the reason why they're so close and Sabrina means so much to her, is that their relationship is explicitly one of equals. Putting aside Mami's utter dependence on Sabrina. There was always a bit of difference between Mami and her apprentices. In TDS, Mami believed that she was more of a teacher than a friend to Kyoko. No need for pretending or acting strong.

Sure, but it's not "competent" or "efficient" enough for SV. There's not enough biggatons in having an emotional range wider than a cartoon villain.

Oh, stop. Acting like a robot isn't even remotely an issue with the current mood. Now you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.
