Can we convince her to take an aptitude test of some kind so that we can see where we can point her to make her feel useful?

We could give her a grief seed and tell her that if she comes across a desperate meguca, she can save them.

I can see Sayaka liking the idea of becoming a policewoman or firefighter or lifeguard or something. (Her becoming a firefighter would actually be pretty appropriate in this quest)

We could ask her to become part of our information network, letting us know where we're needed.

I'd suggest first aid training, but it's Madoka that is the nurse. Then again, maybe Sayaka would still be interested. If we could create magical equipment that lasts outside of our range, we could equip her with some. (Maybe we should try using grief to build magical objects out of mundane materials rather than out of grief)

People like Sayaka (and myself) absolutely hate feeling like parasites. She needs to feel like she's of use to those around her.

No, I think she's just disappointed that we were so tactless.

So, does anyone have an idea for how to make the both of them (Momdoka and Sayaka) feel useful? The easiest thing seems some kind of assistant to other magical girls or to us in our experiments, but both of those things just get them deeper into the meguca life and closer to a contract. We could look for mundane things for them to feel accomplished about, but I think that would be difficult (since, well, if all of your friends were superheroes, would you be satisfied with your contribution to something like baseball or somesuch?).
 
Wait! What if we offered to create something for Hitomi on Sayaka's behalf? Like a sculpture or something? We could let Sayaka be the designer and we could use grief to carve it.

Or, if we can record our grief instruments on mundane equipment, we could write a song for her?

EDIT: ^Yeah. Hitomi's presence does limit us for now.

We do know she likes music though.

Writing a song for her would defeat the purpose, since she doesn't just feel indebted, she feels useless. She needs to be able to pay back Hitomi herself, or it won't mean anything to her.

Pretty much seems like our only option, yeah.
 
Does Hitomi often contract if she finds out about the masquerade? She's a friend of Madoka and Sayaka, and if things are explained to her carefully and in controlled circumstances, maybe she'd be more useful keeping them distracted with "normal" things? As of now, she is kind of annoying as we have to keep quiet about everything of any importance whenever she is around.

Maybe we could ask Homura what she thinks about this?

I apologize if that doesn't make sense to you, my head isn't screwed on straight this morning, and I can't into explain.

Well, yeah. But it could be a stopgap at least and transferring the debt to us might be easier to manage. "Oh Sayaka! You're the only one that can help me!" -> Debt fixed

Next time the subject of why we don't go to school comes up, we totally need to show off just how much "stuff" we know, and thus why we don't need school. But as skirts the bounds of "meguca stuff" (why would an "fresh" amnesiac have such ridiculous, almost supernatural amounts of knowledge?), maybe not around the "uninitiated" (Hitomi in this case)? Thoughts?

Eh, unless Hitomi (or anybody else really) makes a fuss about it, I don't think we really need to try and explain it.

That said, I am curious about how she thinks we keep getting into their school. :p

... I got nothing, wasn't expecting that innocent seeming line to lead to such a large level of foot in mouth.

I think an overly childish reaction would be less awkward than just looking sad and hoping the conversation moves on.

3. Go for walk with Sayaka and Hitomi

4. Create grief!thug

5. Get "knocked out" by grief!thug

6. Have grief thug harass Hitomi

7. Sayaka: "Justice!"

8. Grief!thug: "Oh no! I am defeated and must run away!"

Again, could use more tweeks to prevent crashing and burning.

Oh Gad, it's horrible!

I love it.

Shame it would push Sayaka towards contracting, and that it's hilariously manipulative. Because I would just love an excuse to pull that off.
 
It also assumes that the girls are rather dim, when Hitomi and Madoka are pretty smart girls and Sayaka isn't stupid either.
