Canon!Mami showed off too, and look what happened to her...nah, save the theatrics for SCIENCE!! Sessions. Kill Witches good, kill Witches fast.
In all seriousness, though, "showing off" in this instance basically means "show off your awesome grief weaponry". It's not really all that risky, and there's a line right in there saying "if things go wrong stop screwing around and rip it to pieces".

No fun. Not until after the witch is dead and we can safely do more !!SCIENCE!!

[X] "1 sec...I need to look at something."
[X] Stop...there's more to do here.
-[X] Examine the interaction of the magic and grief. We've always used them seperately...how is the Witch intertwining them?
--[X] Ask Mami and Homura what they make of it....what do the magical aspects look like to them?
-[X] Try replicating the barrier's properties on a very small scale...use it as a model to work from, until you can get it right.
[X] Create an atomic clock from grief, leave it outside.
[X] Once we're inside...
-[X] Create another atomic clock.
-[X] Try altering the nature of elements of the Barrier, like we do with our own Witch-Grief.
-[X] Grab a familiar. Lock it in a grief cage to keep it from fighting back, but don't directly alter it.
--[X] Have Homura Time Stop if things are looking dangerous.
--[X] Begin dissection. Start by analyzing its general structure...
---[X] Does this thing have a core? A soul fragment, or something like it, that controls the rest?
---[X] Is this pure Grief, or is their Magic involved, too?
---[X] Try to find whatever gives it intelligence. Whether that's a core, or something else.
-----[X] See if you can figure out how it's behavior is dictated...if you can make sense of it, try modifying its programming so that it will obey and/or help us, rather than the Witch.
--[X] If you have any luck with this, try making one of your own...use this one as a template, but use your own Grief and/or Magic. Make sure it's loyal to us and obedient.

Unifying the SCIENCE votes.

Please ease up on the sniping, cg.
Yeah, that was uncalled for. Sorry.

Still, we are a hard counter to witches, unlike Mami, and showing off in this case means breaking out the big fancy guns and going to town, not prance around like a ballerina with guns. There is practically no difference in risk between showing off and not showing off, so I fail to see how it being "risky" is a legitimate objection.

Well, there is a difference between showing off and not showing off, but if we weren't showing off, we wouldn't be getting any fighting in at all: we'd just use our powers to rip it to pieces. Either way, we kind of want to let Mami and Homura work as well, so there's no point in going all "serious business" here, and we haven't used any of our grief weapons on an actual opponent yet, so let's try that out.

Maybe ask Mami if she wants to try some experimental and/or expensive moves thought about? And that we'll make sure to watch her back.

Maybe Homura too, allow her some practice with her magical attacks? So she's not too dependent on her mundane guns.

The difference is either showboating by using a sword as a griefbending caster and letting it try and hit us...or being unimaginative and simply tearing it to shreds before its ever a threat using grief bending- assuming we want to show off instead of letting Mami shine. :(

[] Tell Homura to try stopping time before entering the barrier if she hasn't tried it already.
This should be a thing that she has tried before in the many timelines she went through. I'm also...not sure what this is meant to accomplish.

Something like this then?

[] Yeah, lets go.
-[] Tell Mami and Homura to hold back for abit. You want to try something.
-[] Examine a familiar using both magic and grief sense. See what it's made of, what lets it act independently, and if there's anything resembling the core you found inside a grief seed.
-[] If possible, try and wrench control of the familiar from the witch.
[] Encourage Mami and Homura to experiment with their powers. Especially Homura, some magic attacks wouldn't go amiss
[] As usual, abort and go into full blender mode if things start looking risky.
[] Feel free to show off abit when dealing with the witch. Create a large flaming blade or bombard it with disintegration rays, that sort of thing.

Us showing off and Mami showing off aren't exclusive, you know. In fact, us showing off kind allows Mami to show off, otherwise she wouldn't get a chance at all. Plus, she'll get plenty of chances to show off while we are making our way to the witch.
I think Mami needs the opportunity to "un-wind" and just curbstomp some Witches. Sendai arc was a definite stress enhancer, and well...Lichbomb.
Unless something has gone very wrong somewhere, this battle will be a curbstomp. The only difference is between us having some fun along the way or us treating a witch battle the same way a border guard treats stamping a passport.

Suddenly Skadi :V

Another thing we might want to try once we get more free time with warehouse-kun:
Grief replicators/nanolathes/protocrafters. Then use that to turn scrap metal or concrete into another piece of advanced tech... or start small like some electronic gadget that's powered by a solar cell/panel. (...Wall-E?). Leave it for a few hours, then check back if it's still in one piece. Maybe create a nanolathe using a grief nanolathe?

The point is to check if anything our grieftech can manufacture with raw mundane materials will keep running or if it will fall apart the moment we leave.

Also, if our grief can create scifi tech, can we possibly create a machine housing advanced AI? And theoretically, we could hollywood-hack anything connected to a computer. :V

after SCIENCE! or if we cannot science at the time:

-[X] Tell Mami and Homura to hold back for abit. You want to try something.
-[X] Examine a familiar using both magic and grief sense. See what it's made of, what lets it act independently, and if there's anything resembling the core you found inside a grief seed.

cause if we can't science at all might as well learn something from destroying the witch.

That logic...doesn't add up. Us not showing off doesn't have to mean rushing in and griefstomping the Witch. We can and have held back in the past and there's no good reason we couldn't do so again for Mami's sake.

Instead how about this.

[] Take turns showing off a bit when dealing with the witch. Create a large flaming blade or bombard it with disintegration rays, that sort of thing.

Even Skadi wouldn't prove much more than a speedbump to us if we don't hold back. No, really, Sabrina is that powerful.

Also, Ugo, you forgot this bit:

[x] Yeah, lets go.
-[x] Ask Mami and Homura to hold back for abit. You want to try something.
-[x] Examine a familiar using both magic and grief sense. See what it's made of, what lets it act independently, and if there's anything resembling the core you found inside a grief seed.
-[x] If possible, try and wrench control of the familiar from the witch.
[x] Encourage Mami and Homura to experiment with their powers. Anything they've never tried because of the cost or because they've fought alone without someone to watch their backs. In particular, encourage Homura to practice with her magic attacks.
[x] As usual, abort and go into full blender mode if things start looking risky.
[x] Feel free to show off together with Mami when dealing with the witch. Create a large flaming blade or bombard it with disintegration rays, that sort of thing.

Also changed the wording on the show off bit, because I'm reasonably certain that the witch won't last long enough for both Mami and us to have a turn at showing off. Unless it's a uberwitch like Skadi, but even then....

It's an intentional omission from that version. Not sold on micromanaging or experimenting with a Witch fight rather than as its own thing.
