Krecart means that we tried applying grief to magic hammer the first time we tried out our powers. No instinctual way to do it popped up, so it didn't work.

...

You know, since we let that witch-kissed woman die because we didn't want to go into a fight without testing our powers first, does that makes us not-heroic good, or just not-stupid good?

I don't think being good or moral works like that. Sometimes you make mistakes. Sometimes you don't understand the consequences until much later. Is Mami any less of a hero because she's spent her life capturing the tortured souls of other magical girls?

We could blitz all the Witches in Mitakihara tonight by abusing Time Stop. Are we not-heroic-good by choosing not to?

e: Those questions might be rhetorical, but my answer is "no." For the record.

Yeah, all actions have consequences, and your alignment can't be determined by unforeseen consequences. Take timestop-killing all the witches in Mitakihara, for example: would that help people overall by obliterating the local witch population, or cause Kyubey to go on a contracting-spree, causing untold amounts of suffering for people that otherwise wouldn't have been approached? consequentialist ethics are a real can of worms unless you're literally omnipotent omniscient.

@Gadjo: Given that Sabrina exists, the contracting spree has to be absurdly huge to beat witches and familiars killing people and witches suffering from their own existence.

They also wouldn't be ideal contracts, so them being in worse-than-average meguca positions doesn't exactly apply.

Just how many magical girls would have Kyubey to contract in Mitakihara to cause worse suffering than a single death? Given how many die, how many is that per day? Week? Month?

I mean, unless becoming meguca with Sabs is suffering a fate like terminal disease that kills people early, we're talking of massive minority of population, at least, given how familiar system makes up for significant fraction of total deaths. Kyubey would have to start contracting boys because girls ran out.

Of course, Kyubey could go on a contracting spree elsewhere, though that doesn't seem to have any relation. Which brings into the question why Kyubey would do so in Mitakihara if we hunt down witches.

PS: As you might guess, I'm not here to exactly read Shirou's adventures, now with Sue powers.

We didn't think that part through/remember that event until after the fact, and we weren't sure of the timing/how our powers worked at all. While what happened to her was partially our fault, at the end of the day, all we can do is try and save as many people as possible and try and make sure Sabrina's existence is a net positive in terms of the lives of the people around her. Save everyone we can whenever we can.

Also, our existence might have caused enough of a delay in and of itself for Mami to not save her in the nick of time. In canon, they took their sweet time walking across the bridge and street while witch hunting after all.

Just an example of a situation where a supposedly good action could cause people to suffer, dude. On that note, becoming a meguca with Sabrina around still carries the problem of the whole "separated from your soul" and "life of combat" bag of fun. Also, I have no idea what your last line means; who's Shirou?

@Gadjo: Oh, I see. Yeah, taking good actions can make people suffer indeed.
Glances at Mami.
But this case might not be the best one...

Also, this guy:

(BTW, don't take that as detracting against him, Fate/Stay Night series is quite awesome. Just some fanfics, less so.)

Enhanced, and no longer amnesia-inducing vote.

Still takes a look around, but only to see if there's anything we don't recognize going on.

[X] "1 sec...I need to look at something."
[X] Stop...there's more to do here.
-[X] Examine the interaction of the magic and grief. See if it's doing anything we haven't seen before.
--[X]If we do see something new, ask Mami and Homura what they make of it....what do the magical aspects look like to them? Even if can clearly see what's happening, maybe they'll recognize some detail that we might miss.
-[X] Try replicating the barrier's properties on a very small scale...use it as a model to work from, until you can get it right.
[X] Create an atomic clock from grief, leave it outside.
[X] Once we're inside...
-[X] Create another atomic clock.
-[X] Try altering the nature of elements of the Barrier, like we do with our own Witch-Grief.
-[X] Step inside the barrier, but don't go too far...just grab a familiar. Lock it in a grief cage to keep it from fighting back, but don't directly alter it.
--[X] Have Homura Time Stop if things are looking dangerous.
--[X] Begin dissection. Start by analyzing its general structure...
---[X] Does this thing have a core? A soul fragment, or something like it, that controls the rest?
---[X] Is this pure Grief, or is their Magic involved, too?
----[X]If they're both there...what purpose does each seem to serve?
--[X] Try to find whatever gives it intelligence. Whether that's a core, or something else.
----[X] See if you can figure out how it's behavior is dictated...if you can make sense of it, try modifying its programming so that it will obey and/or help us, rather than the Witch.
--[X] If you have any luck with this, try making one of your own...use this familiar as a template, but use your own Grief and/or Magic. Make sure it's loyal to us and obedient.

FOR SCIENCE!

[X] Higure

Cluster, cluster, cluster all round the SCP!
Where'd you get those images from? I can't seem to find them.

Also - random note, but powering Ramiel off of a Love Gem is just asking for Master Spark jokes :p.
Oh, from the same doujin series the 13 Sayakas come from, though earlier number - I found it under the name of "Sahasika Kanya Sayaka Svaha".

Eh, Higure's vote has too much SCIENCE! for me. This is primarily supposed to be a hunt, not an Experimentation session.
So far it has been mostly us doing the Science! alone; ideally, we want to bring Mami and Homura on board with it.

Unrelated note: I didn't understand why Nagisa kept popping up in this story. I mean we saved her and kept her from becoming Charlotte, so shouldn't that have been the end of it? Then I watched Rebellion and it all made sense: we totally want this girl as our surrogate little sister.

Guys, maybe we could engage Walsprugas by making a Mech from Battletech to just blast the thing with Alpha Strike, or a very tiny Death Star.

[x] Yeah, lets go.
-[x] Ask Mami and Homura to hold back for a bit. You want to try something.
-[x] Examine a familiar using both magic and grief sense. See what it's made of, what lets it act independently, and if there's anything resembling the core you found inside a grief seed.
-[x] If possible, try and wrench control of the familiar from the witch.
[x] As usual, abort and go into full blender mode if things start looking risky.
[X] Take turns showing off a bit when dealing with the witch. Create a large flaming blade or bombard it with disintegration rays, that sort of thing.

[x] Encourage Mami and Homura to experiment with their powers. Anything they've never tried because of the cost or because they've fought alone without someone to watch their backs. In particular, encourage Homura to practice with her magic attacks.
