Sigh. Still better than OTL's turf war, hopefully... :(

Almost certainly. It is heavily implied that in the OTL of PMAS the turf war triggered the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami after all.

We don't know what effect the changes between RL and PMAS, besides the upgraded reactors, would have had but IRL ~600 died in the earthquake and ~14k in the Tsunami that followed.

One five thousandth the deaths is a pretty good improvement.

@Omegastar
In a word? Yes. What's the difference between an Incubator that we have no interaction with and one we have nothing to offer for? None.

Between an exercise in futility (winning over QB) and working on something that might actually be useful, the latter seems like a better use of time.

Nothing we do is going to deter Kyubey from working to screw us over, and it's a waste of time to try. It's not a human being, it won't do things out of spite or change its ways because of appreciation, and we can't win it over because its mindset is fundamentally abhorrent and works in ways that prevent true cooperation with it.

Why is Madoka giving Homura a funny look after what Sayaka said?
Shipping.

[]Change the subject. Have they got any plans for the next few days? Any ideas for things to do?
[]How about an amusement park? Maybe bringing Nagisa along?
[]Telepathy Homura. Does she want to talk later? She's walking Madoka home, right? She should talk to her.

What's next? Fukuda actually writing good stories and not appealing to the lowest denominator to sell stuff? Magical Girls being straight? Microwaved tea actually tastes pleasant?

Oh, the possibilities...

so any plans on what to do when the witchbomb goes off?
Well, hope this works...
From
http://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/posts/2130595/ (This was the biggest one - includes discussion on endless timestop)
to
http://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/posts/2133524/ (Sorta fizzled out to nothing by the end of it, so chose this as the stopping point)

Only missed one tiny little discussion around 100 pages in, cause it wasn't really long enough to justify throwing it in.

Dunno what to do with a post like this, so I suppose either @Tam Lin can add me to the conversation and I'll copy the list there, or the debaters can simply look here at this post.

Regardless, I've got the links saved in a txt document, so if witchbomb debate shows up in the future just point any new posters to me and I'll give them the required pre-reading.

Stick to the policy, everyone.

Because Sayaka just made a casual comment about how she wouldn't mind the girls in Not-Infinite Stratos hooking up, and that's a concept that Madoka has likely been mulling over for some time.
It's not that I don't understand that connection, it's that the framing of the events seems weird, or the language used. The "funny look" sounds like a direct reaction to what was said, but she's looking at Homura, who didn't say anything. It's like, if Madoka is giving Homura a funny look, did Homura say something and I missed it? Or was Madoka supposed to be looking at Sayaka? Or was Homura the one who made the comment that it says Sayaka said?

Edit: Also, the fact that she looked at Sabrina and Mami next seemed to imply a transition from being surprised by what was said, to connecting it to a specific couple (Sabrina and Mami), versus a self-awareness regarding Madoka and Homura which doesn't really seem to fit.

We should pursue a better understanding of this issue. At maximum awkward. We can defeat this melancholy with embarrassment.

Pretty sure that's not the case? The earthquakes were due to the one girl's earth powers. No tsunamis were mentioned other than speculation. And our question regarding Fukushima and earthquakes and stuff was met with confusion from Oriko.

Hm. Odds are, one of those reported fatalities is erroneous, because of that disembodied Moe-arm we left lying about. The other two - maybe we missed someone in the wreckage, maybe stray lasers beam weapons, or maybe that Tiro Finale overpenetrated in exactly the wrong place.
Still. Could easily have been a hell of a lot worse.

"What's the chances of them triggering off something bigger? If they have someone who can make earthquakes..."

That startles Oriko. "What? Low-" she twitches, back arching slightly. "High. It's not during the fight. It comes after."

It's not definite but it does, as I said, imply that this would have triggered the 2011 Earthquake.

"Last question, unless I think of more - what about the nearby nuclear reactors? Will they be affected?" You can feel the weight of Homura's, Oriko's, and Mami's puzzled looks at you. Kirika seems completely unconcerned, humming to herself and twining her fingers through Oriko's hair.

"The... nuclear reactors?" Oriko asks. "Do you mean the Fukushima nuclear plant?"

"Those, yes," you nod.

"I don't... see... the relevance?" the seer asked. "The fighting won't go anywhere near that region?"

"No, I mean, with the earthquakes and all..." you explain.

Oriko's head tilts slightly. "With their recent upgrades? No."

Similarly nothing definite here but there would have had to be an Earthquake and Tsunami for the upgrades to be relevant otherwise Oriko would have just said no.

So overall we can't say for sure this was behind the Earthquake and Tsunami but there is certainly an implication that it might have been.

About the negotiation attempt:
Sure we weren't the greatest negotiator, but the attack was all Akiko's idea. It also happened right ater we admitted that we maybe weren't that good at this negotiation thing. If she was abit more patient things could have turned out very differently.

Madoka seems to be contemplating the possibilities of forbidden love, going by the looks she gave Homura and Sabrina and Mami. We have to introduce Madoka to Kirika, since both of them seem to have developed shipping goggles for a certain white and gold pairing.

Between an exercise in futility (winning over QB) and working on something that might actually be useful, the latter seems like a better use of time.
False dichotomy. Determining what might be useful can only (as far as we're aware at this point in time) be done in relation to interacting with Kyuubey. Also, it's not a matter of "winning over" Kyuubey at this time. Regardless, if it's an exercise in futility, then so is the hope of a useful solution to our current dilemma, short of becoming a god (for which the 'useful' part of that phrase is debatable).

Falsely assumes that saying we have nothing to offer him is the same as having nothing he's interested in, while also implying that us not trying to interact with him is the same as him not interacting with us. Also falsely assumes that we have nothing to offer, which cannot be determined without further information.
Nothing we do is going to deter Kyubey from working to screw us over, and it's a waste of time to try.
Assigning a false motivation and intent, and conflates means with goals. Unproven (and unprovable) assertion that it's a waste of time to try.

OK, I can see how you could interpret it that way. When I read it, whatever the "big" thing was was completely undefined, and never clarified. We should ask Oriko; that comment weighted a lot of how I approached planning for the entire war.
Similarly nothing definite here but there would have had to be an Earthquake and Tsunami for the upgrades to be relevant otherwise Oriko would have just said no.
That part seemed to imply that Oriko was confused about why we'd even be asking about larger earthquakes in the first place, which is why I didn't connect the idea of a 'real' earthquake with the earlier line. Edit: The fact that she'd know about recent upgrades (ie: past information, thus not precog-info) implies whatever was done was pretty widely known news.

1. We know what he wants. (Unlimited emotional energy, preferably in nice large payouts.) We just can't give it to him at this time.
2. Even if we had what he wants, it's impossible to give it in such a way as to stop him from betraying us at the first hint of a potentially larger payoff when he has a track record of just that.
3. A useful solution such as kicking the Incubators off the planet and aiding the existing megucas is a viable, even preferable alternative. There are definitely others we could try. Even the status quo of 'no interaction beyond grief marbles while working to reverse witchouts en-masse' is perfectly viable.
4. Kyubey wants us dead. This is a fact. In the long term, he wants every single magical girl dead and producing grief energy. I do not see that as likely to change.
5. We are not going to be able to get useful information out of Kyubey at this junction without revealing far more of our cards than I'm comfortable with.
6.Working with the Incubators doesn't actually get us anything.
