Assuming worst-case scenario — that Akiko fundamentally cannot handle the witchbomb (and basically goes into her own version of Tetris) — how would we approach this discussion? What, exactly, would we want to find out, if anything?

We'd be there to find out what happened to Setsuko, and where she got that information, just as always. Hopefully that's not how she reacts, but that's just one more reason to include one of her friends to keep her calm.

Turns out we were in Asunaro all along.
Akiko: Homura never told you where you were...
Sabrina: She told me enough! She told me I was in Mitakihara!
Akiko: No, you are in Asunaro.
Sabrina: No. nononono...
Akiko: Search your feelings Sabrina, you know it to be true!
Sabrina: NOOOOOOO, NOOOOO!
Akiko: ...So now that we're done referencing Star Wars, you wanna help me deal with my metal scars?
Sabrina: Please.

Actually, didn't that happen with Kirika in the Oriko Manga? Perhaps the grief-seed spam is stopping her from Witching out? Certainly explains why she's so attached to them.
Kirika was a special case. She used her time manipulation powers to delay her witching out, and even then she barely lasted for a day before her gem broke. If Akiko had a crack in her gem, she would've died a long time ago, especially since unlike Kirika, she does not have a way to prolong her gem's breakage.
