And i'm finally finished reading through the quest... while it may have been a rather strange mistake of avoiding it before, at the very least it was a good read for 2 days without a waiting for updates...

Also, am i really the only one who was partially rooting for Akiko, because reasons?
Well, she's completely crazy and out for revenge on a group that probably had nothing to do with her friend's death...so probably. :p

Also, welcome aboard, and have a cup of microwaved tea.

I'm reasonably certain that Ramiel's lasers didn't cause collateral damage until she did that nova burst upon us snatching her gem. Her attacks prior to that point have always been pinpoint accurate, so there shouldn't be any collateral damage.
I guess. Without re-reading the whole fight in detail, I can see two points in which Sasami hit some buildings but both times it's after moe's delimbing.

Also, welcome aboard, and have a cup of microwaved tea.
Damn it, don't scare them away!

Clarification, If we let all of Sendai go get their grief seeds, how exactly are we going to get them to help us keep the Fukushima girls calm?
We're letting them go in that we're not binding them?

Clarifying the vote.

[]Please do.
[]This way'll be better for everyone in the long run. We promise.
[]Release Sendai and give them their gems back as a gesture of good faith. Hang onto Akiko for now until we can talk to her. We want to try and find out what's wrong with her, and help her if we can.
[]We're going to wake Fukushima, and talk to them, ask them about how many seeds they have back home.
-[]Did they say anything about that to you? Anything about them you can tell us?
[]Start with the metalbender. Keep her restrained. Ask Sendai and Mami to help keep her calm.
-[]Her friends are okay. We don't want to hurt her.
-[]Ask her what the hell she was thinking with bringing the fight onto a crowded highway.

*shrugs* Well, being close to crazyness is kind of a stick for a meguca (even if it's different for each one), and being one you can't really consider yourself normal (in terms of a psyche and in comprisson to an ordinary civillian offcourse) and we surely played to a part here. Also, i do not believe in "good intentions to everyone" and "peace at all costs", so petty personal revenge looks way more appealing in general and something easy to associate with. That "partially" was more about her avoiding telling the other true intentions behind the incident at the critical point.

*Sips an oolong green tea from a cup* Nah, we don't even have/need a microwave at home, and i know better than ruining a good tea!

I'd rather start with Moe, so she'll be very clearly alive before we wake up the other two.

One thing we can ask the Sendai group is whether they think the Fukushima group would be amenable to stop their mercenary business and accept an offer similar to what we gave them.

I'd rather not take risks with the girl that can control shadows...the metalbender at least is easier to restrain. Changed vote anyway and adding the Sendai group question.

I think we can handle Moe safely. We just need to depower her by either having Kirika constantly blast her or revive her inside the grief oppression fortress, after remodeling it so it's sealed tight and using Sabrina's witch powers to flood it with light to the point that there's absolutely no shadows inside.

EDIT: That would be like making a barrier would it not? Lowercase b.

Huh, somehow I was under the impression that we let them go after they proved to be non-hostile. Hold on, let me go check that.

I'd rather start with Moe, so she'll be very clearly alive before we wake up the other two.
Err, somehow, I don't think starting with the girl we brutally delimbed is a good idea. Wake up Kuvira or Ramiel first, then let them wake Moe up, because while we CAN restrain Moe if we have to, I'd rather not if we can avoid it.

How can we convince them to be reasonable as long as they think we killed their friend? No matter what we say, they might not believe that she's alive unless they see her up and walking. If they were aware that megucas can survive what we did to Moe, I don't think they'd have gone spare like that.

You're assuming alot of things about the way they think. For all we know, they could've gone spare because we stole Moe's soul gem, alternatively they've never suffered a casualty in battle before, so seeing Moe go down like that shocked them into going all out. The point is, it isn't necessarily a soul gem issue. Mami remained ignorant of the lichbomb because of her isolation, but I find it hard pressed that a professional combat group, one that presumably has been in multiple battles against other meguca, would remain ignorant of the lichbomb. It's not impossible, but it's unlikely.

Also, @Ugolino:
Tamiko nods, and she looks at you. "What do you intend, Miss Sabrina?" an unfamiliar voice sounds in your head, a pleasant, light alto.

"Peace, Miss Tanaka," you say, meeting her gaze steadily. "We are willing to let you up, if you agree to abide by a ceasefire for now."

She glances at Sakura, and then back at you, nodding slightly.

Mami's ribbons flow away, and Tamiko remains in her seated position, apparently unconcerned by the puddle of cold water she's seated in.
We already released them from their bindings. Hell, other than Tamiko, we never had them in bindings in the first place.

Edited vote accordingly since I'm pretty sure we're hanging onto their gems.

Moe's still a fairly good starting point because she's connected to Ramiel.

Does not compute. Their opening move was to knock Mami off the roof, and they followed it up by lightly searing everyone they could draw a bead on; either they're aware of the lich thing, or their choice in tactics started off at 'fairly lethal' and escalated to 'gratuitous overkill' when Moe beat us down (and up, and down again ...).

(My guess is that they're lichbombed, and their response to being picked off is just a sign that it really pissed them off. Choosing to call in mercs unaware of something that relevant to combat - both in terms of force necessary to achieve anything and damage you can survive - would be kinda weird).

I doubt they never took a casualty for the same reason you think it unlikely that they're ignorant about the lichbomb. If anything, their experience makes it more likely that they've took casualties in the past than it makes it likely that they know about the lichbomb. They could've taken casualties during battle that later proven to be normally-non-lethal, so those casualties would not trigger the lich-bomb.

This is the first time Ramiel's hit a building, it's after we took down Moe, before we retrieve her gem. It's actually while we're going to retrieve her gem, but Ramiel couldn't know that.
Light, deadly beautiful in its stark radiance, blazes down at you from behind. You slam Grief shields into place a heartbeat later, long enough for the beam to splash on the edge of, and past your platform to burn a trench across the brick building behind you.
So I take it that Ramiel went spare because of the brutal take down, not because we stole the precious thing gem.

For all the damage they've done to us, we're alive, aren't we? If we didn't know about the lich bomb we would still be alive, just incapacitated. What you are describing is fairly normal in a super-powered battle, magical girl battle or similar. Being knocked off a builidng is not that bad for girl that roof hops as a matter of course.

The same goes for making the offer to Ueda, too.

No, I can't agree with 'might'. Obviously they're going to give an explanation that favors themselves. Let's just get whatever information we can from them, and send them home. The most in terms of future offers we should give is emergency gem cleansing and securing a neighborly visit so we can make a proper evaluation

Editing that out, it's too early to set up good relations with mercenaries.

This grief cleansing is looking more complicated by the moment. Maybe we should arrange those visits and see how well does the grief cleansing fare for the Sendai girls for a while before making offer anywhere else.

Get Mami's opinion about our objective after everything calms down, too. And Kirika's opinion, too. Maybe we can take her out for more happy fun times fighting unreasonable people.

Depending on how the interrogation goes, we say "if your group's ever in danger of dying, we can and will help" and mention that we intend to drop by at some point.

Would want to avoid this line, particularly in light of Sabrina's inner thoughts in the update:
You wave it off. "It's what I came here to do," you say. To fix things, to improve the lives of magical girls. To impose your brand of thinking, your way of doing things on the magical girls here.

What's the difference?

"So, one last thing," you say, hiding your inner turmoil.

Probably not especially relevant to the current vote, but Noa's reactions were interesting. I guess the initial reaction was due to her not being here for all the showyness that the rest have been exposed to, but she still seems to be putting some serious thought into something.

So, after returning Sendai's soul gems: Get grief seeds or deal with Fukushima first? If they get the grief seeds first, it solidifies the agreement and confirm's Sendai is acting in good faith. There's technically no immediate need, though, and not requiring it may show we simply trust them to hold up their end of the bargain. Waiting for them to get the grief seeds, though, gives us a period with not much to do, assuming we want them back for the wake-up process with Fukushima.

I think I'd be inclined to letting them get the grief seeds, and in the interim talk with Noa, since from her fidgeting she seemed to have some questions she'd like to ask. Would also give people a break to wind down from the stress of the talks before we go to the next stressful stage. Edit: Recall Mami's warning about overwhelming them.

It's there as reassurance, not further imposition. It won't cause any harm and taking it out just leaves them uncertain without us trying to deal with that.

We want Sendai there to help keep Fukushima calm because them being there and visibly okay with it makes it clear we haven't killed them all off or something.

Well, it'd mean we only killed Akiko off. :p

That's what I was referring to. If we wait for them to get the grief seeds, then we have a period with not much to do until they get back. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing; as noted, it lets things wind down a bit, and gives an opportunity to talk with Noa.

Which is kinda my point. If you're aware that megucas are a nightmare to put down, to the extent that your first resort is to make with the third-degree burns, a bit of dismemberment not being as fatal as common sense would dictate shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

And, nah, their priority target was bestgirl -
"We're sure," Chouko says. "We need to move. This isn't a good position to fight."

Chagrined, you pull the shields away from them, turning instead to look at Mami. "Mam-"

A magnesium white flare of light explodes behind you.

Stark, black shadows race out from your feet. Sharp relief against the rooftop.

Screams. Flash-blindness.

An enormous impact. A girl, standing where Mami was. Shadowy wisps lick over a black dress.

There and gone in a heartbeat.

Grief crashes against the rain-slick concrete a moment too late.

Mami, tumbling across the rooftop, limbs flailing in the slowly fading light.

The University girls, just beginning to orient themselves.

Haru slams her vine down. Living wood explodes into the air around her and her sister.

A whump. Shadow-girl slamming into Mami again, from the opposite direction.

An explosion of golden ribbons, Mami twisting impossibly. Shadow-girl -Nishimura Moe- is slammed face first into the rooftop, Mami's knee in the small of her back.
(Probably 'cos Mami's widely known to be deeply scary).

I'd rather settle the Fukushima problem and get rid of them before we get started with the grief seeds, though. They don't really have much of a role here beyond "learn more about them, find out how badly they need seeds, send them off".

The only issue there is "how many seeds are they going to fill up and throw away if we don't give them grief cleansing".
