Actually, I'm pretty sure that if the DP die the lowlands will just be turned into a massive chaotic mess.
It will turn into a chaotic mess in the short term, but the HK - being limited from other expansion routes by the mountains at their back and the swamp to the south (IIRC) - will jump at the chance to start consuming vassal states. Similarly, the TH will either also try to expand in the lowlands, or do a combo of raiding the lowlands freely and further expanding in the hills.
More warriors and more chariots.

The only ones were fighting is the northern nomads and they are not really doing much damage, and as long as we don't flub every diplo roll then HK and TH won't attack us
The southern sea people will likely expand their predations if not located and stopped early.
Also, it's not whether or not they attack us now, it's whether or not they'll attack us when they've consumed enough land and have a strong enough econ/mil combo package.

There are no friends in relationships between Polities, only interests.
There is always a chance that a TH or HK that has taken over the Lowlands might just decide to eat us in order to complete their domination of the region and remove a potential threat in their ass, especially since they should be both rather martial cultures that are inclined towards that kind of assessment.
I agree that an attack is extremely likely, especially by the HK who've always been tsundere toward us - liking our dyes, not caring about us otherwise. If you want to stop them, a better choice is doing: [Main] Chariots, [Secondary] Study Metal [Secondary] Trade Mission - Lowland Minors. This will start swaying vassals toward us, reducing the speed at which the HK spread. Best combined with a Badlands settlement instead of Chariots, but we seem to want to increase martial.
Note that doing a secondary martial expansion is a foolish action, as it does not get us the technology advance, which atm is the main thing we need.
Another worthy choice is Main Study Metal, Secondaries Trade Mission - LM, Sailing Mission - Southern Shores. This does not expand our martial even further, but will supply us w/ more intelligence so that we can make informed decisions, and will influence the lowland minors to like us just in case.
We literally just got 5 provinces, and this is our first turn of 3 actions. So we need to wait a turn and see if there's a trend

How did we "literally just g[et]" 5 provinces? What province was added this turn? IIRC, we voted for "Blackbirds, RHx2" not "Eastern Hills Province."
