Not really? This isn't really a large horde. It's basically one clan. One clan can sustain itself on their herds eating all the grass and crops along the way indefinitely unless they have to stop moving.
The fields lie fallow though? We're witnessing a breakdown at basically every level of civilization (bar our super-quarntined cities) which is why starvation is such a real and present threat. The fact that they're burning literally everything that could be tainted in their path doesn't help either. Also given that this is a great Khan spawning I'm reasonably sure that this is multiple clans lumped together, if not then the Banners alone would probably outnumber them by a significant margin.
Completely mounted army. If a nomad clan winds up in close contact for an extended period relevant to aerosolized mucus infection they've fucked up.

...also coughing soldiers don't fight good. If it's super Tuberclosis they only infect while coughing and the aerosol droplets are inhaled.
At a certain point if your options are being genocided and going out to fight then unless you are quite literally on your deathbed you're going to go out there and fight. And the nomads here have been pretty clear about the whole "accept no quarter" thing, and given this:
Because even as the cities burned down districts to keep the plague contained and refused entrance of any visitors without a two week quarantine period, only permitting the exchange of goods at a distance, the plague found a home in the countryside and began to reap the people there.
I'm pretty sure that the disease isn't only infectious when you're at the coughing stage. If that were the case then contact during supply drops would be less paranoid.

Quick question about our military. How good are massed crossbows against nomads?

I vaguely recall reading a book that mentioned that a good part of the reason for the failure to develop gunpowder weapons in china was due to crossbows working better against nomadic raiders than a gun would, but I'm not sure if that was because crossbows were super effective against nomads, or if it was because early guns were shit against fast moving cavalry.

I imagine that crossbows would be pretty effective in countering the nomads speed, but I'm no expert in ancient warfare. Does anyone know something about this?
About that...

Blood Rain Banner Company (Mercenary Company) - Can be hired to other kingdoms for wealth, or maintained to boost Martial capacity (L: 3/5, E: 1/10)

They didn't seem to do so well.

It takes a long time for guns to have clear advantage, IIRC.

Also crossbows generally have lower range but you can train more of it.
Yeah, I get that part, but I was wondering how effective having a large number of crossbowmen like the Blood Rain Banner would be against the nomads?

I mean, from my limited military grasp, long range weapons like crossbows would, to an extent, counter the incredible speed of nomad cavalry.

...Whelp, that answers that.

On the other hand, the other two look mostly fine, so we still have something for next turn to fight the nomads.

The Banners alone do outnumber them by a significant margin. He has 8 martial total. It's just that he also has a huge Light Cavalry score due to nomad.

Wait, what is going on? It's not update yet.
On the bright side, they are not dead. That's better than I expected.

Okay, we are kinda fucked long-term unless we punch priests in influence.
Fuck Purity bullshit.

Depends on what type of mounted combatants they're fielding. For all people love to talk up the mounted archer, one of the best counters to it is... regular archers. If you have way more. Easier to train, denser deployment for massed volleys, etc. Massed crossbowmen would serve the same purpose.

That being said, fielding nothing but archers against cavalry would be a really bad idea, because a mounted charge would cut it to ribbons, scatter them immediately and ride down the survivors soon after.

Basically, if we manage to hold a defensive position, I expect our crossbowmen to be pretty effective. If we don't hold a defensive position, I expect our forces to break and be utterly routed.

I'm just happy it doesn't look like our Light Cav got decimated like I thought it would. That would have been a shitty set back.

Also, don't know if anyone else has pointed this out, but we got our new legacies:

Mercenary Leader: +1 Mercenary Company Slot
Urbanizers: +1 Free City Slot

Well, the status sheet is still being updated (gulvalley is still displayed, for example) so we shouldn't be counting our blessings just yet.

Wooo hoooo!

Also @thread to all those who may be worrying about the really high RA, with it so high we will absolutely have options which lower it in the near future. Maybe not next update, but the other parts of our system like the guilds, the traders and the king himself if the priests interfere with his authority will start throwing mid turn vote options at it which drop it. Just so everything returns to an equilibrium.

Also if we survive I think @sidestory's shrine annex idea is a good one.
