And everything was EVEN MORE AMAZING BECAUSE IT IS NOW ON FIRE AND I LIKE BASKING IN IT SO HELP ME CROW.

The limit is 12 and we only have 9?Speaking of Admin Strain, we are over our province limit by 2 which means our government is being strained by our core lands. And then you can add on the subordinates.
We have 14 provinces.
I made a joke and pointed out exactly how the Docks were useful after they got brought up. The rest has been like half a dozen posts of people saying it somehow wouldn't be useful, eventually falling back on saying they wouldn't be useful because holding the Straits is going to prevent us from doing anything else.

Front page is out of date.We have 14 provinces.
Provinces for Projects: Redvalley (C) (Valleyhome+Redhills), Sacred Shore (9/9) (Redshore+Sacred Forest), Inner Forest (0/9), Upper Hillhome (0/9) Stoneshore (0/9) (Stonepen + Northshore), Hatshore (0/9) (Southshore+ Hatriver), Blackiron Province (9/9) (Blackriver+Ironshore), Hatvalley (0/9), Stallion Province (0/9), Valleyguard Province (0/9), Vinehills (0/9), Eastern Steppewatch (0/9), Western Steppewatch (0/9), Porthills (0/9)
We have never lost Stab from a war except by kicking it. It does boost Loyalty of all subordinates though. Permanently.Have we ever lost Stab that abruptly from a war before?
(I'm actually genuinely curious, I haven't been following the quest that long)
Just STARTING the Reforms changed the formula. Centralization went from needing Max to needing some number above 5. Martial went from needing <3 to needing <5.RE: the Second Son crisis, do you think there are requirements beyond just fulfilling the stated criteria? Like finishing the military reforms? If it turns out 7 Cent is the benchmark we need to reach, what else do you think we need to do to fix the problem?
One turn is about 15-20 years, so it's only been 45-60 years since the Trell war. So the youngest of the original slave generation are still alive and in power, while the second generation were raised seeing the scars and stories of their parents.I don't think it's been that long since the end of the Trelli War. Three turns; I just checked. There are likely still a small number of people who were alive and remember the depredations of the Trelli during the civil war. The parents and grandparents of virtually all of Free Hill's citizens were victimized and they would pass the knowledge on. This is not a distant grievance, this is very recent. Plus, given how vicious people could be in ancient times, I wouldn't trust them if those was a truly historical grievance.
Basically. Discovering THAT was the rise of nationalism(then of course people took it overboard and discovered fascism)Immediate boss. People generally aren't loyal to the king, they're loyal only to the immediate superior. Kind of like in feudalism.
+3 confirmed in income, +1 or +2 in saved strait tax cost. The rest is speculation.I think Veekie did the math on the benefits we can be reasonably sure of (reduction in tariffs, increased trade power, resolving pirate issues), and it added up to something like +6 Wealth/turn? a relatively small wealth drip on top of that could be pretty strong. (and by pretty strong I mean we'd be overflowing Wealth VERY quickly)
... which would be bad, right. This "running a civilization" thing is hard.
I mean if the main point of taking the Trelli to obtain a large Wealth drip, it's a non-point, given that our Guild Mercantile and various abilities generate Wealth at a pretty obscene rate already.
We'd have 3 Martial and 3 Merc Companies, most of which will be keeping the Trelli down. At this point if someone or someones invaded us, we'd be totally fucked before having the ability to respond properly.
And we lose stability if we lose land.
Ah, sorry about the misunderstanding.I made a joke and pointed out exactly how the Docks were useful after they got brought up. The rest has been like half a dozen posts of people saying it somehow wouldn't be useful, eventually falling back on saying they wouldn't be useful because holding the Straits is going to prevent us from doing anything else.
Which is, to say, that I wasn't part of the main discussion, but people are making it about that. I already made my points earlier in the thread and said what I'd be willing to give up for the Straits. I don't feel particularly strongly about either option, so I don't feel like constantly going over my points to influence an outcome that I'd be fine with either way.
We've never seen tech that would make such an improvement, but we don't have strong evidence that it is impossible. Just unlikely. Can we increase our strain-free provinces with tech, or do we need a better government type?
Indeed it is. I got that list from the end of Debased Gold.
Muahahahahahahah.
You've yet to justify why we would WANT Mediterranean culture. The important part is strategic control, and diplomatic access to the Khemetri/Mediterranean cultures.
Whoever holds the straits will become a powerful polity very quickly, which in the normal course of things means rivalry and conflict. There will always be social pressure to have strait access, so you can charge ruinous fees for it and people will still pay.
Heck, it paid for a lot of Byzantium just taxing strait access.
Remember we paid the Trelli for Strait access? Do you think the Khemetri also pay for it? Or the Saffron islands, or the yet unknown mediterranean cultures?
You could bill everyone -1 wealth per turn to pass through and basically everyone would.
Nah, it doesn't hurt, but I'm not ready to flip flop yet. I see a lot of speculation. Some convincing, some not, on both sides. I am reading though, so if I see something convincing enough to swing me, I'll pipe up and say why.If you don't happen to feel strongly about any option, is their any way I could convince you to vote for loaning our mercs to Freehills?
You've likely seen all of my arguments so far, but I thought that it wouldn't hurt to ask.
If you want to combat strain, one of the best ways is just building roads. Three roads widens our cent gap by as much as two provinces shrink it.
Especially in terms of game mechanics, where our trade is determined by which goods we dominate.
I'm always happy to vote for more roads. I think I was Roman in a previous life
More friends to invite to the Games for a diplo drip?

I want the tags to be trimmed down but I can't pick out a clearly inferior one to discard...
Sure. When we've invited even half our current neighbors, lets talk about that. :/

*scratches chin* Hmmm maybe I should start preaching as to the benefits of worshiping Great Cthugha.
And that means you can make Flaming Zombies!Eh, might as well. Fire everywhere is an improvement, since everyone is toasted.
I think that was from a conversation about a hundred pages back where some people were loudly complaining about the good old times.Just wait til someone adds "my little empire can't be this broken" and "Ymaryn Delende Est" tag. Where did that hippy elves tag come from anyway?
Have to survive that long, which is doable, but is hard enough the phrase "Bitchslap Kalameet bare ass naked" might be applicable.More people to invite to the games for a diplo drip... eventually?![]()
