This war is taking a serious emotional toll on our genius administrator king... I think it's time to bow out. At this point there's seriously nothing to gain from continuing; we'd better fold here rather than dig an even bigger mass grave for our bogged-down soldiers in the Trelli desert.
There's an entire strait to gain. We fought less than half a turn. Deserts are even easier to conquer. It has already strained him.

Don't think of what we're gaining, thinking of what you're losing by voting to withdraw. We are at 1 stability. Withdrawing has a good chance to end the Golden Age before we get to next turn.

Let's keep fighting a little longer. It's going poorly now, but with offensive policy running I think we can make some progress. At the very least, we can get better peace terms. I'm not a fan of the current peace options.

Also, can we avoid Genius kings in the future? Geniuses seem to have a tendency to be mentally unstable. Hero kings are almost as good while being pretty well-adjusted.

It's the "King" part that makes it a problem. I think only an Admin Genius, or possibly a diplomat, would end up King, and there was a good chance this one wouldn't be stable enough for it, remember.

It seems like the best choice for developing understanding of the 'genius' psyker powers.

I prefer this because I'm willing to pay the price for Trelli (and because its been less than half a turn...)

That said, I'd like to see a vigorous debate on the manumission option. It's very interesting, and would probably regain a lot of diplomatic credibility.

Oh boy an update!... Oh. Oh, this is going to be a fun one.

As tempted as I am to chose madness for all the FUN that would bring, it's probably a monumentally bad idea. Anger seems like the best option for war, but I worry about the long term effects. He might direct that anger at affairs within the country and that could cause all manner of problems. With numbness it is possible he could become completely apathetic to our problems and stop trying to improve anything. As such I am tentatively going with the absurd, though I fear it will be a drain on our diplomacy and wealth. That is to say nothing of Yshuyn's sanity, though as far as I can tell that will be broken no matter what choice we pick. I welcome everyone to try to sway me on this, this is something that needs a lot of thought put into and I am not certain of my choices.

Well, that sucked.

This is a crazy idea, but it might be better to embrace madness/anger and then dispose the king, blaming it on the spirit of that one bad king whose name now escapes me. The guy that fought crow.
It's gonna cause a lot of problems either way, but at least that one has a convenient scapegoat we can probably beat with religious authority...if people can be convinced not to be that mad at the priests.

Really screws over this one guy tho, essentially condemning him to a bad spirit in the history books.

The other options are kind of too unpredictable in an admin king for me <_<
At least if its anger the people have precedent to remove him before he gets too far with it.
Madness might have a false diagnosis/repercussions for our mentally ill area. Sorrow and numbness seem like he'll be ineffective for a long time.
Eh.

Ending slavery will not solve our long-term problems, but I believe that it is a necessary precondition to solving our long-term problems. Slaves reduce the pressure for industrial automation. If we want industry, we need to create opportunities for efficiency of scale. Slaves parallelize too cheaply; they're a local optimum with a low cap. Analogously, if the Trelli can use slaves they'll outcompete us before we manage to outscale them. If we want automation, we must create incentives against cheap labor.

Also something about morality, I don't know.

[X] [King] Embrace the Absurd

The world is absurd. That's just the objective truth of things. :V

Narratively, i.e., angling for the best trait evolution and lessons to be learned from this, I think that it's probably a good thing for Yshuyn to embrace his sorrow. The story of the kind-hearted king who sought to free the slaves, and was heartbroken to find it wasn't that simple, is a powerful one that will endure in the Ymaryn's collective consciousness and drive them to seek better solutions than war for the problems presented by religious and moral conflict.

[X] [King] Embrace Numbness

He may develop basic idea of war that population and stuff are numbers, cold logic of throwing units to break enemy will.

Of course the king is going something due to stress and being a genius. Too costly now to stop, was hoping for white peace of sorts.

Edit: A withdraw might be for the best.

Taking apathy would likely greatly decrease any motivation our king has, and Sorrow would probably have him cease all military actions and maybe result in suicide at some point. Absurdity would hopefully lead to a more creative approach to problems, though his sense of humor becoming so strange would obviously create issues of their own. Meh, it's not like the Absurd would make him Joffrey.

I'd honestly rather keep fighting, as we've only fought for 1/2 a turn (maybe less). The slump we're in is purely because we didn't adequately prepare. We just kinda armed the slaves and fed them....

If we had started the war with an offensive policy and had our civ launch war missions ourselves, then the war would be going much better.
