...And then poor Bronze Age communication happens, and the Khem send another princess upon hearing that we elected Magwyna II.

Actually, I think Ymaryn culture is set up to handle that pretty well. We've had same-sex marriage since Gywgotha, so I'm pretty sure the Queen would just marry the Khemetri princess, and if the princess got pregnant the Queen would legally be considered their father.

At least, that's how I understood that way-long-ago update. Things may have changed since then.

A while back, it was only considered socially acceptable for shamans to be gay, and things might have gotten worse since then.

A rare picture of Chancellor Joseph Foch of the Republic of Bison prior to his execution by the seal occupation forces.

The next Chancellor, Francois Jofre, would be executed by the alliance later in the war for crimes of collaboration with the seal enemy.

DOUBLE MAIN EXPAND SNAILS CONFIRMED

That's a prairie dog you ignorant serf :p

The Otter sultanate does not segregate its armed forces nor does it recognise the various sub species claim to difference, all are otters and all are slaves to the sultan.
Any other sentiment is treated as nationalist agitation and met with swift execution.

Are you concerned by the pollution possibles?

If so then I'll point out that if the Ymaryn maintain their environment conscious ways that our industrial revolution is actually going to be a rather long process. Longer than it was in RL.

And this would be because the player base takes the time to figure out controls and solutions to the inherent envrionment problems from burning tons of wood based material.
Actually, if you are using charcoal instead of tinder, the emissions are pretty good for anything of it's era, mostly because much of the problematic volatiles and particulates are already driven off in a sealed environment during charcoal production
The main problem is the logistics overhead of preparing that much charcoal, but we have the whole thing set up because we never found coal.
So, I think there is something that should be discussed:

If the drought happens as prophesied then we need to accept that we have to accept that the stars reliably predict geological phenomenon. Once can be waved off as a fluke but twice?

Also, if we are right and tell everyone'provide aid before it happens our Prestige will skyrocket.
Not at all.
Climate, rather than weather, is entirely cyclic.
Others already listed the rest, but the Chinese have a giant chart based on elemental and astrological rotation that claims to predict the events...and it works because while on the yearly or even 10 year cycles the weather is rather unpredictable, on the 30 to 100 year cycle it grows more and more predictable as overall trends.

Since the 'movement' of the stars is mostly the movement of the Earth in it's orbit, that means that the observed movement of the stars directly corresponds to the amount of sunlight a given part of the world receives, which is what determines the majority of climate effects.

Correlation is not causation, but in this case the movement of the Earth causes both effects, therefore you can study one effect to predict the other.

Industrialization right now would probably be more negative than positive for our civilization.
Smoky positive. Remember our class divisions and elitism?
Industrialization is the single biggest step to improving the quality of life of the lowest tier without major changes to the highest tier.

Where the real life industrialization struck hardest was the inability of administration and regulation to catch up to the new pace of social changes, and the transition of rural communities into urban, where their skills and income are invalidated and they move from the rural middle class to the urban lower class...which is already happening.

Actually our social model is more or less built FOR an industrial society...
Supporting the rebelling slaves is more threatening, at least to neighbors who have slaves. They'll be wondering what we'll do if they have their own slave rebellion. Whereas there are many reasons everybody hates the Trelli and most of the trade through the straits is ours anyway,
Not quite.
-Supporting their core is reassuring. It means we help the top dogs of our allies.
-Supporting their slaves is disturbing. It means we may intervene negatively for religious reasons, which makes us unpredictable(except we have had a century of close interaction and intermarriages, so they got a fairly good barometer). This is like the Spirit Talkers, you know they're nuts, but you also know how to trigger or not trigger them.
-Attacking their core makes us threatening. It means that we are willing to take advantage of our allies in a backstab the moment they show weakness. This is the same behavior we wanted to burn the HK for.
It's complicated. A large number of slaves are more indentured servants, but they also pick up a lot of war slaves for mining work (not necessarily directly, but their southern colonies/vassals pick them up from unstable neighbours a fair amount). For several generations now they have done something of a slave swap with the Trelli, sending dark skinned slaves south in exchange for light skinned slaves from the north, under the idea that because the physical differences are so noticeable and they are so much further from their native homes that escape will be so much harder. While they absolutely feed slaves into the grinder in their mines, the idea of chattel slavery as the Trelli are doing in their colony, where they are deliberately setting up these little artificial societies where they can breed a stable supply of slaves like cattle is weird and they just sort of refuse to engage with the idea that things could possibly be that way there.
Ah, there lies the difference. I think the Romans and Greeks would agree.
Slaves are a lower class of people you send to do dangerous, menial or exhaustive work instead of your 'in group' people, which is normal in the era.
Chattel slavery is unpersoning them, they are livestock in human form.

Frankly I'm surprised nobody has just thrown charcoal in there to see what happened.
Remember a previous update, Rulwyna I commented that the smiths and smelters all know to keep their kilns scrupulously clean because if you don't it can explode if something wet gets in.
  • All the infrastructure projects and demands from people like guilds are becoming intensely fuel consumptive. Getting ahead of the curve now will keep them from either throwing a tantrum later or begin stressing the forests
True foresight!
This will become a lot worse as we industrialize, so he's getting started early!

Nothing like the Age of Sail causing the European Deforestation.
  • The Storm Wolves and Metal Workers keeping going at it on and off, so you haven't received a chance to intervene before they make peace again
They're just there for looting rather than conquest then.
How stupid is a lowland canal connecting the two river? Do we need more manpower?
Manpower is mostly for distance. Alluvial soil is really easy to work with, but the problem is the masonry and brickwork needed to keep it intact, plus the dredging to keep it clear...probably more work than the Triangle Canal.
Or... we could take Constantinople, put Collosal walls around it, and never face a serious threat from the eastwest for a millenium.
Just a fun idea, all the wall tiers stack, so we could put Significant -> Massive -> Colossal
I grew up on a dirt road. I've butchered chickens and rabbits, and caught and roasted fish. Our neighbors would always trade us some venison post-hunting season, and another neighbor would trade us half a cow.

Pretty much any vertebrate isn't disgusting to me. But I never got into insects...
This is largely the same origin as the Ymaryn not making much use of mushrooms. Insects are linked to a cultural decay aversion, much like mushrooms, so the revulsion is common. More common even, most people don't see fungi growing on rot, the end product looks pretty clean. But everyone knows that worms means that the food had gone bad and you should go beat up the guy who sold it.
What's with the Unicron hate?

They're adorable!

They're a penis metaphor!

I think this is the first time in a while we've gotten overflow into econ, instead of just out of it. Also definitely the first time i can think of that we've maxed everything else out and gotten martial from overflow! Given we got that wealth in part from diplo, i imagine the narrative is the Games making for rich trade deals, and then the central gov being able to buy up more food with the ridiculous wealth overflow? Or maybe in immigrants coming in due to our wealth? Hmm...
According to AN from long before, overflow into Econ is from our neighbors hearing about the massive abundance and migrating because they want some of that. It's basically a refugee influx, except that refugees tend to pull from the lower classes while massive abundance pulls from basically everyone

Loyalty 5 -> 4 and Dependency 4 -> 3
Dependency drop likely from them getting some luxuries and skilled artisans of their own, with their new vineyard and supporting of artisans. Loyalty drop...not sure, honestly. Random time drop maybe? Still, gives more urgency to influencing or integrating them...
Probably the culture gap triggering time based decay.
Loyalty 6 -> 5, dependency 6 -> 5
Dependency drop from them fixing their irrigation (and it being a more relatively important issue than it is for thunder speakers). Dropping loyalty likely cause we didn't support them at over-cap dependency? or maybe just from not being overly dependent.
We did support them via Hero Admin action.
The Loyalty drop is just that everyone who was alive when the meteor hit is dead now. They aren't quite as fanatical because it's now second hand
And of course our new free cities! That Trouble mechanic looks worrying...
Probably crime and whatnot.
New action, unlocked by the games! Actually pretty shitty on a pure stats level, but per word of AN, its our in to more secular education options. As is, we'll hopefully/probably get a quest for one soon and can use that as an excuse to build one. Plus, bonus to games rolls (more prestige) and martial tolerance are both nice, just not amazing =3
The martial tolerance is amazing, we've had to keep our Martial 5 points below cap because Econ will randomly pump it up.
Building 5 Gyms lets us maintain a Martial(after adding the games) of 10 points above where we should normally be, and keep high Econ without worries!

But I expect one of the things with transitioning to the classical era is that a lot of actions no longer generate raw stat points while passive income sources and refunds grow, as we've observed, we're getting enough Mysticism refunds that the actual cost doesn't matter anymore, only your 'standing' Mysticism level.
And we've finally upgraded New Trails to new Roads...though considering it massively increased the cost, not sure how much of an upgrade it is... Still, it increased our connectivity limit (was 2 + 2*provinces, is now 2 + 3*provinces + Governor's Palaces), and i'm sure the narrative boost is bigger. Also note that by now we have 13/26, not 11, because this was before the main turn. So if centralization tolerance is just 1 per 3 connectivity, then we might have +4 to that now as well :) Note that being at half of our max connectivity means we wont gain centralization from this anymore until/unless we gain more provinces or governor's palaces.
Pretty big, tech investment means we should be hitting paved roads soon! They need actual skilled labor to maintain and build!
Study stars went from giving 3 mysticism to costing 3 mysticism, so its now pretty expensive :( Still, i guess predictions are useful... even if we get a free one each turn anyway?
Note that the Study Stars streak counter is still there. Should be something good.
Note that baths do not cost mysticism like AN was originally planning on doing, and that if i'm reading this right can be put in any city candidate, it doesn't have to be a true city yet. Still, really expensive (especially the forest slot) for just 1 EE, lower disease rolls, and a hidden +1 to the true city threshold of the city in question and any lower priority than it.
Might be a mistake? @Academia Nut should the Baths cost Mysticism and do they grant any additional benefits if so?
New megaproject! ...Or judging from the cost, new wonder?? Seriously, 12 cost per action, and even after refunds it's 9! Of course, we have reformers fully charged, so it'll all get refunded as culture (and thus overflow into at least mysticism and tech, as well as wealth if diplo is maxed), but still. Really fuckign expensive. Of course that should mean its really powerful! Not sure if this will be international or not, though... Should lead to tech and culture boosts, or innovation boosts, presumably. If international, might just add to the existing wonder?
Hmm, since we have the infrastructure, I expect it SHOULD be an upgrade to build a World Fair.
Huh... so apparently we've set things up that its actually easier for genius nobodies to get to be king early than it is for genius nobles? o_O
Look at our past decisions. Whenever we had a vote for Hero Kings, it's always unanimous for a "nobody Hero becomes King" and always much more conflicted for "Hero child of King becomes King".
Huh...This is a little confusing to me. It sounds like he got to be king early by hiding his skill? So i guess he convinced his peers they'd have a semi-puppet with him on the throne? Clever...
My reading of it was that he realized that people would consider him a threat to gaining the Kingship, so he might as well do it on his own terms rather than being assassinated, manipulated or sabotaged.
Interesting... admin genius does not mean "good with math" it seems :p also, narratively suggesting how he's good at diplo and awful at martial.
Hertytyn sounded like he had a non-zero Mysticism, which might explain it?
...I am distressed by the fact that the king "has" to marry a Khemetri princess o_O That hopefully is more benign than i think it is, and i'm just biased from not being from a time and culture where royal marriages are logical things... hopefully the diplomatic benefits of being tied to our strongest neighbor outweigh any potential issues from their influence through those ties...
They burned a Dipomacy Hero on it. It basically gives them a soft kingmaker power.
-Top Tier Mine suggests that we'd be getting like a really high output mine, given the cost. Something like the copper mine in Sweden that was like a third of the output for all of europe, or a large tin mine. If were just had bronze, this would be a godsend, because getting a good tin mine would be amazing. As is, the best thing would probably be a large gold or silver mine? Get our currency fully supported, maybe even have enough to get them up to leading trade? On the other hand, might cause inflation...
In terms of sheer utility I'd say Silver mine, but it might also be generating a more exotic mine like Platinum, which like Mercury would give us basically uncontested Dominance with just the one
-New value slots are always amazing, but long term. Note that this cost 7 mysticism the first golden age, so the costs apparently have gone up as we got bigger :/ (Or i guess maybe AN forgot what it was, or just decided that it made sense for it to cost more; it has been a long time and AN is not shy of making balance changes =3)
Or the cost increases with the number of slots you currently have?

Ya know instead of getting bent out of shape trying to do things the hard but environmentally friendly way... we could just do it the easy way and then get off to Nuclear or Green energy soon as possible if Climate change is that worrying in this quest.

We did support them via Hero Admin action.
The Loyalty drop is just that everyone who was alive when the meteor hit is dead now. They aren't quite as fanatical because it's now second hand
I don't think so. We supported them with a Hero Admin action, but that was two generations ago. They were still at yellow Dependency last turn but our Genius Admin didn't help them at all. I think it might've just been Lord's Loyalty's con triggering due to not helping as much as we should have.

The problem is our foundational trait, the VERY first and single most upgraded social trait that defines us as a people will throw a riot.

Which is why we're spamming enough trees to run an Industrial economy long enough to breakthrough to electricity, and tech racing everyone. Like with Iron, you can take the environmentally friendly route if you're literally centuries ahead of your rivals.
