We should go with the galena mine. I believe they're more hazardous to health so they'll need our help with that more than for the iron mine.

Thats a hefty losss of prestige and if you think the Khemetri would leave us alone when we already capitulated is naive.

Why do we care about prestige beyond allowing subordinates?
And the contest is specifically about colonizing unclaimed lands, IIRC.
That's a rational response. It's ultimately a small amount of land and nowhere near our most productive.

But this a late Bronze/ Early Iron age geopolitical landscape. I suspect it's like prison rules. Once they see that one guy took your place in line or your cornbread or whatever, then everybody will be looking to walk all over you. It's sort of represented by losing our King of the Hill status

It is still up in the air whether it is even our land and not unclaimed that we both want to get.

Do you really think the Not! Egyptians will stop with just us giving way? Especially with a Weak Causus Belli?

Yes, because this is specifically contested colonization + dick measuring contest, not defensive war for actually our lands.

[X] [React] Found Mercenary Company

Never underestimate the importance of quick reloading. Being able to put down crazy amount of arrows is godly.

However this means that we can only send assistance to one of the mine. We have a greater shortage of silver than we do iron, so it goes there.

For the King of the Hill, I must remind everyone that we have a poor Martial Hero on the Throne right now, and a Population Boom. Now is not the time to go on offence. It is the time to go on Defense. We can afford it and more importantly, it gives us time to bulk up for the next king to attack with better martial.

Best Diplomatic action would be the one that ensured we do not get attacked on two different fronts. That means bribing the Thunder Horse for peace.

Reaction that I find best is to found a Mercenary Company. That sets us up to Integrate the Stallion Tribe and use their Martial for the upcoming fight.

You might want to wait on the AN answers to that that people have asked. Assuming that kinda thing can be badly rash ya know. ;)
How do you interpret this statement?

[] [KotH] Give way (-13 Prestige, -2 Stability, small amount of territory loss, all civs that had the 'Take the Crown CB' gain 'Weak' CB for the next 3 turns)

The Ymar are not exactly a super prideful people. That stability loss has to come from something, and the only thing I can think of that would cost 2 stab for a single action would be a divine stewards proc.
We would probably hate them forever for taking some of our land anyways, and giving in to them now will let them expand into the Lowlands as they please, as they don't seem to have any grievances with massive expansion, as we can see here.

We have to stop them now, before they grow too strong and start to be able to easily overpower us.

[X] [WC1] Send limited assistance for the iron mine (-1 Centralization, -2 Tech)

I don't think the tech cost is that big a deal If we keep it too -2 And I am worried about some of the long term consequences of letting the west wall set up mines unsafely

[X] [KotH] Bring it (Declare Great Power War with the Khemetri, both remain King of the Hill status until the end of the war, winner retains it)
-[X] Free Switch to Defensive Policy

I'm going with defensive policy more to prepare for anyone stabbing us in the back then anything else and that this is the one of the only times we've ever had the money for this.

[X] [Diplo] Hire out Trelli mercenaries (3 companies available)
-[X] Three Companies (-3 Wealth/turn)
[X] [React] War Brings Disease, Prepare (Sec Lower Valleyhome Aqueduct + Sec Redshore Aqueduct)

We need the mercenaries and I think the economic expansion is more useful then technology study health but I'm ok with either.

Population Explosion actually puts us in a uniquely good position to duke it out with the Khemetri, amd the logistical trails are likely just as long on both sides.

[X] [Diplo] Hire out Trelli mercenaries (3 companies available)
-[X] Two Companies (-2 Wealth/turn)
Two companies will give us plenty of elite troops without letting us dip into the negative, wealth-wise.
We are currently making 3 net wealth per turn and are at capped wealth, before several overflows. If we are going to go to war with the most powerful civilization around, don't risk our entire civilization to save 2-5 wealth.

This is defensive war.

Reminder- we are not getting a Golden Age unless we don't spend any Econ, Wealth, or Stability. Seeing as we have no wealth/econ generators, it looks like the Golden Age is going to be delayed. On the other hand, we have somewhere to spend our overloaded red martial!

is this a secondary action? All the others are [Main] so I wanted to make sure.

We've got a stupid amount of econ, and we need more walls. Might as well run defense.
(Edit: Only puts up walls in core territories, not colonies, when it's a colony in contact. Of course, walls might help if someone else decides to join in, and offensive policy risks accidentally claiming more territory we can't actually afford...)

This war can't end quickly, at least short of us death spiraling, so we need to plan ahead and dig in. Prepare to absorb casualties, etc.

We only have 5 tech.
Defensive for the walls.
Mercs to boost army numbers.
Aqueducts to absorb the pop explosion.

So, you really do think if we give way here, they won't try to take hatvalley in 2 turns, the n our core after that? I say you're crazy.

I don't feel comfortable letting another slaving nation just take free shots at us without fighting back. This isn't machismo, it's important for cultural values as well. The Trelli are barely tolerated while they hang out over there and we were already gearing up to have to hit them. Now these guys finally work they way up here? Nah, hell with that.
Actually yeah you have a good point we have been giving the slavers a little too much leeway for my tastes. I guess it's time to hammer them and show them that maybe they don't want to be near us.

*sniffs* mmm, that china shit.
Skimming over the wikipedia page, it doesn't actually look that appealing...unless i'm misreading it, it sounds like it drastically reduces the power of the central government? Hell, at one point its compared to feudalism, with the caveat that in a mandala system, the subordinates are more independent.
@Academia Nut while i imagine we can't actually do much to influence at this point, can you give a very brief overview of the new economic systems listed?
Also, from the sounds of it there's already been some skirmishing between us and the khemetri, so what does their military look like from what we've seen so far, in composition/equipment/etc? How well defended is the area the Khemetri are bordering? (i.e. how important is it to start walling up or watchtowering hatvalley, which is what i assume defensive policy would focus on, since i dont think it can take war missions)
New effects: player chosen Infrastructure policies doubled (one action only for active policies), one additional passive infrastructure policy always active (effect not doubled), -1 Wealth each turn.
Also, can you confirm that this means that right now we've got +3 progress per turn, from the free passive infrastructure policy + the one we chose that is doubled? And if we choose more passive policies to be infrastructure we'll get 2 progress/turn each? And if we use the active infrastructure policy, a total of two actions will be doubled from the law?

@Academia Nut So will this happen anytime two KotH's meet, or only when they intrude upon one another's sphere of influence?

We absolutely need the galena mine. We absolutely need the silver. The mercenaries we're going to hire will consume a very high amount of our silver currency and we need to buffer our reserves if we want to do that and also keep our economy running.

NOTE! If people want to fire more shots quicker, just produce more crossbows! Our warriors can split into groups where one reloads and another fires. Realize our advantage in production and population!
