Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

So… any ideas on the parody side of things?

Like anyone got any ideas for how Darths and Droids would look like in this universe?
Well, at it's core, it is kind of simultaneously a parody of D&D and Star wars. Pretty much being sort of a thought experiment of what would star wars be if it was a D&D session. Although if it starts around the same time as OTL, it'll only start at around roughly when the prequels come out, whatever shape they become.

When we get to the 2000s I want to do the masterpiece that we sadly lost thanks to the Evil Mouse: Star Wars Detours:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMVrMP8us6Q

Just think of all the hillarious parodies involving Bruce and Carrie through Han and Leia. I can also think of a joke where Luke took a wrong turn in the Dune Sea and somehow ends up joining White Base in a Gundam reference. Plus we can do tons of fun EU jokes for the super fans.

I have always thought that we should produce a film based on the Tag & Bink, the funnier Star Wars comic ever made

I even made the pitch with Tag and Bink played by Monty Python...
Movie Pitch:
STAR WARS: The Adventures of Tag and Bink

GENRE: Comedy

SUBGENRE: Spoof/Parody

FORMAT: Live Action Movie

Set Up: Inspired by the tragicomedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard. The story follows the misadventures of Tag and Bink two rebel officers who, after escaping from the Tantive IV by disguising as stormtropers in Star War, keep getting into all sorts of trouble... During their journey will find themselves on the Death Star, arriving too late for the Victory celebration in Yavin IV, recovering the crucial intel on the second Death Star from after the death of Manny Both-Hanz, anf being witness to the final duel between Luke and Darth Vader.

Director: Mel Brooks (with the Collaboration of George Lucas)
Composer: John Williams

Tag and Bink: The Titular Duo, two rebel officers with the best-worst luck in the galaxy and whose motivation is to stay out of as much trouble as possible, but they keep finding themselves out of frying pans into fires... They form a classic comic duo with Tag acting as the straight man and Bink as the funny man... Their humor has a lot of 4th Wall Leaning.

Played By: John Cleese and Michael Palin.
Alternate: Graham Chapman and Eric Idle.
Most of the Original cast of Star Wars are planned to appear reprising their original roles, but mostly as cameos or background characters while the action is focused in the POV of Tag and Bink
Mark Hamil: As Luke Skywalker
Carrie O'Brian: As Leia Organa
Bruce O'Brian: As Han solo
Toshiro Mifune: As Obi Wan Kenobi
Peter Mayhew: As Chewbacca
Kenny Baker: As R2D2
Anthony Danials: As C3PO
Peter Cushing: As Whilhuff Tarkin
Jeremy Bulloch: As Boba Fett
Billy Dee Williams: As Lando Calrissian
David Prowse: As Darth Vader
Ian McDirmand: As Emperor Plapatine

A.N.: Fuck Yeah!!! I have finally finished my exams, and now I can be more involved in this awesome quest... This is obviously an attempt to get the funniest Star Wars comic ever into a film, and since we are Lucasfilm we can do it with the original cast of SW, and having the freaking Mothy Python plying the Duo

Sketch
TITLE: Sketch

GENRE: Fantasy, Adventure

SUBGENRE: Drama, Isekai

FORMAT: Animated-Live Action Movie

BASIC PROMPT:

A story about a family that is losing its love discovering it again when two parents on the verge of divorce travel to a colorful and vibrant world of sketches and imagination to save their daughter, learning to love one another again and reforge their family. Format is split between live action for real world scenes and animation for the "Isekai" scenes.

Madison Walton- A young and imaginative girl who has a strong sense of adventure, responsibility and creativity. Madison likes to draw in her sketchbook to express herself and uses it as a refuge from her home life.

Martha Walton- A serious and strong willed lawyer, Martha desires to practice a life of strong and moral character to do right by those she works with as well as to set a strong example for her daughter Madison. Martha wishes to have a firm sense of control and being organized and orderly, which can have her be at odds to Gary. In recent times, Martha is a seeming workaholic, spending many days away from home and at her firm, but does so in order to gain a sense of control and to avoid her fears with the family.

Gary Walton- A free spirited and relaxed artist, Gary was the one who gave Madison her sketchbook and encourages his daughter to express herself in drawings and follow her imagination. Gary often acts as the comic relief of the movie and seems to lack a sense of urgency and seriousness, but acts as such due to believing that's what he needs to do and is the only way he can cope with life's difficulties.

Madeline- A brave and daring adventurer, Madeline is a bombastic and heroic woman who always seeks to do what's right and good, yet also can be very silly and fun. Is an older version of Madison and how she wants to be as a grownup in following both her parents.

Robert- A shy boy and earnest friend to Madison, Robert is a loyal and dutiful friend who while fearful and unsure, always seeks to do right by his friends and make them happy. He is very protective of Madison in a brotherly fashion and wishes to do everything to keep her safe.

Felix Carino/Doctor Love- The Walton's marriage counselor, in his normal human appearence Doctor Carino is an optimistic voice of reason, trying to bridge the gap between the couple. In Imagica, Doctor Carino is portrayed as Doctor Love, a suave and romantic healer who "ships" Martha and Gary and tries to use every situation to have them fall into passion and romance, overall displaying what Madison thinks love to be.

The film opens with a fantastical animated scene of a young girl storming a castle with her two close companions. One of them is a confident adventurer appearing like a female Indiana Jones while the other is a meek and shy boy, unsure of the dangers ahead but willing to follow the lead of his friends with encouragement. This is the trio of Madison Walton, Madeline the hero, and Sir Robert the Brave. The trio brave through a capsule full of traps and all sorts of fantasy creatures, but the action is generally light in tone and performed in a whimsical tone with the scene ending with Madison triumphant by slaying the dragon. Afterwards she is celebrated by the King and Queen and engages in a party with the land of Imagica's subjects.

The scene then hard cuts to a counselor's office in live action with the colors all gray, dull and dreary. The other two main characters, Madeline's parents in Martha and Gary are in marriage counseling with a Doctor Carino, both arguing over who is more at fault with the state of their marriage. Martha claims that Gary lacks any sense of responsibility while Gary claims that Martha is devoid of warmth or love for their family. Neither side is totally in the right or wrong and while the Doctor tries to help, the arguments inevitably arise. With a solemn sigh, the parents both come to accept that they may have to pursue a divorce.

The next scene shows Madison at her home, happily drawing the adventure that was shown in the beginning of the movie in a sketchbook. Her parents arrive and she tries to show them the drawing of her adventure. While both Martha and Gary initially shows interest and try to be encouraging parents, an argument starts when Martha accidentally insults Gary's work who belittles Martha's efforts in return, igniting a fierce fight that has Madison scared. Seeing the fear they put their daughter through, Martha and Gary calm down and tell Madison that they're thinking of getting a divorce, causing Madison to run away in heavy tears while both parents blame one another.

Running away to her tree house, Madison wails in sorrow, trying to cheer herself up by reading her adventure drawings, but just getting more depressed, tearing away a picture of a king and queen. Madison cries and wishes her family would be whole again, and a single tear that transports her to the world of the sketchbook. There, Madison meets Robert and Madeline, who are happy to see their friend yet fearful because the King and Queen of Imagica are missing. Madison is at first bewildered of her new surroundings, but quickly accepts the new situation, finding it a welcome escape from her broken home life. Madeline tries to console Madison and help her deal with the situation, but Robert believes that the divorce is good as now Madison can live in Imagica forever, proclaiming her to be the new Queen of Imagica. Madison welcomes the situation, and promises to eliminate Magica of all the "Bad Drawings" and make the land only a happy place, celebrated by Robert and Madison's friends but Madeline is worried.

Back at the house, Martha and Gary have ended their argument and are each in separate rooms, both wondering where everything went wrong in their marriages. A flashback sequence shows the two's shared history of how they meet and fell in love and started a family, ending with Martha being heavily pregnant and both happy, only to then fade to a timelapse of misery. Both resolve to talk to Madison in a calmer matter, meeting each other at the door and resolving to at least do what's best for their daughter, but do not find Madison in her room. Both parents search frantically for Madison and reach the treehouse where they find her sketchbook, only to see many pages ruined and turned into messy and wildish drawings. When both wish to find Madison, they are sucked into the sketchbook and become part of Imagica.

The two are briefly separated and explore their surroundings with Martha being comedically bewildered and freaking out over the impossible circumstances while Gary embraces his surroundings and enjoys seeing his daughter's creations. The two unite and explore the new land and all the different characters and places, recognizing many of the sketches as Madeline's interpretations of her life and family. Gary and Martha also begin to discuss in greater detail and more calmly why they feel their marriage is responsible for falling apart, with Martha feeling that Gary is irresponsible and always prefers to make jokes and play around then be a father and husband, while Gary feels that Martha is a workaholic solely dedicated to her job instead of him and Madison and is always a sour downer.

Back at the Royal Palace, we see Madison taking to her newfound status as Queen of Imagica. Madison oversees the Royal Palace having a firm makeover to a childish and whimsical place only filled with fun and joy, painting everything in pink and making sure that everyone lives how she wants life to be. While many welcome the changes, a great deal of others are uncomfortable with Madeline arguing that Madison is not respecting the people of Imagica and she is only running away from her problems instead of fixing them. Madison is conflicted, but Robert pushes Madison that what she is doing is right and she must be rid of all of the bad drawings and memories. Robert then secretly tries to put Madeline in timeout, but she escapes and seeks help from Madison's parents, the only ones who can set her on the right path.

Back with Gary and Martha, the two find shelter in a temple where a fairy grandmother (resembling Martha's mother) greets them and bestows upon the two human the penswords, magical constructs that will allow the two to draw anything that they want in a sort of King Arthur moment. The two must find their swords soon put to use as they are attacked by Baxter hounds (Their neighbors dogs) that are sent by Robert. Martha draws items too simple to defeat the dogs while Gary, joyous at his newfound ability, takes too long to draw something effective. The two work together with Martha providing Gary with direction and Gary helping her to draw, fending off the Hounds long enough for Madeline to save the day.

Madeline recognizes Gary and Martha as Madison's parents and enlists their aid in going on a quest to save Madison and make her happy again. Seeing the two bicker and be uncomfortable with one another, Madeline enlists the aid of "Doctor Love" to help keep the peace and push the two parents towards one another.

The second act sees the adventure of the main heroes on their journey to go and save Madeline, traveling through Imagica where they revisit many old memories and treasured people and places as how Madison sees the world. Gary and Martha must overcome the wonderland-like environment and manage to do so by combining their strengths with Martha establishing clear rules and guidelines which install reason and order to the games like how she organizes games with Madison, while Gary designs and creates fantastical art which can help them win their battles in a silly way. Both spouses start to grow closer with each other and reconnect. Two important scenes are Martha helping Gary to create a fun and lively art museum where in the real world Gary had failed in selling his art and had grown fearful of the art business, while Gary helps Martha win a trial, instilling the fire and passion which Martha previously lacked in her work.

Throughout the film, Robert schemes to stop Gary, Martha and Madeline's journey in comical ways while also trying to keep Madison happy. Madison finds being Queen to be dull and sad as a land of only fun is becoming boring, especially without her real world adventures to supply her with inspiration, but is too afraid to return home, accepting that Imagica is her new home.

The reconnection between Martha and Gary is tested when they reach "Babyland" a part of the Kingdom of Imagica which for the past year has been covered in shadows and sadness. It is here that the cause of Martha and Gary's rift is revealed with Martha last year having been pregnant with a baby who was going to be Madison's younger brother, a son they planned to name Robert. However, Martha suffered a miscarriage and was told that she would never be able to have another child again. The loss and disruption to their family sent Martha into a deep post-partum depression where she pushed her family away in fear of losing them and dove firmly into her work where she felt a sense of control. Gary was also very depressed, but didn't know how to cope with the loss of his son and the growing separation from his wife, and instead sought to simply act silly and happy all the time to avoid the pain and pretend it never happened. When the two explain their actions, they reconnect and promise when they return to the real world to work through their trauma together and build their family back again.

The climax of the movie sees the group of heroes storm the Royal Castle, a titanic bouncy house and fort which has become a terrifying and chaotic lair. Martha and Gary through their newfound teamwork and synergy are able to easily bypass the knights and defenses with the aid of Madeline's skills and heroics. They reach the throne room where Madison is happy but unsure of seeing her parents again, while Robert is enraged at seeing the two who made Madison cry and "lost" him and grows into a large dragon to stop them while Madison is placed at the end of an obstacle course. Madeline fights off Robert while Gary and Martha work together to reach Madison. The two reach their daughter who is unsure how to interact with their parents, preparing to fight, only to be embraced by her parents who apologize for their fights and affirm their love for Madison, which restores Imagica back to normal. Madison says goodbye to everyone, pushing Robert to become his own person, and the family leave back for the real world, Gary and Martha unsure if everything was a dream until they find the penswords in their pockets as regular pens.

The final scene shows the family two years after the movie's events, having reconciled and become happy again. Martha has created a work life balance and is more at home and attentive with her family while Gary has assumed more responsibilities within the household and is actively selling his art. While their parenting isn't perfect, they are actively trying and both love Madison while also showing some growing fondness and playfulness for one another. The two tell Madison that they are thinking of adopting a child to which she responds happily with the family embracing.

The end credits show many sketch art pages of Madison's adventures with her parents being an active part of the adventure. Midway through, a new character of a young boy appearing different from Robert is shown joining in on the adventures, signifying that the Waltons did introduce a new family member through adoption.

A/N: So this was a movie propsoed by @Schehera Zade who allowed me to take the concept and explore and develop it. It's basically the story of It Takes Two combined with Alice in Wonderland and a more cartoonish feel.

Dude. That is an amazing twist, bloody heck! It's got my approval, that's for sure. :D

Writes a heartfelt story about a family moving past trauma and staying together through love and the joys of art, gets called Isekai Trash. 😔
You put Isekai into the sub Genre, you have no one to blame but yourself for me making that connection. :V

I've read way to much bad Isekai that the genre itself has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I just called it Isekai since that's literally what the plot is, a girl and her parents get transported to another world. Besides not every Isekai is automatically bad, Ascendance of a Bookworm is straight fire.

On that topic, I think that Isekai as a genre is actually about to pop up into existence in the 80s because of Dreamworks and Lucasfilms and Disney helping to show so many Japanese animes and movies to American audiences that Japanese entertainment becomes mainstream. Even before the internet, I think a lot of Japanese slang and cultural stuff is going to be fused into the American melting pot as part of the entertainment osmosis, and one of those is gonna be the Isekai genre considering Dreamworks is lead by Japanese animators and they will refer to movies like Sketch and War for the Crystal as Isekai.

So yeah, Isekai is probably gonna be dominant in the 90s.

Turn 82 (December 1980)
Turn 82 (December 1980)

"I think something is wrong with this picture." You said as you looked at the twins crawling around Mary, in her Dragon outfit. "Where is the ferocity? Where is the venom, where is the noise?"

The joke sailed over Mary's head. "They won't stop crying! They are too loud."

Oh, she preached to the choir but she was also going to be extremely unhappy about several things about to occur in the future, "Oh come on Mary, you know that they just want to spend time with you?"

"But they are so loud. It's no fun."

You laughed. "You were too at that age, I remember."

"Was not." She protested.

"Were too." You smiled as Joseph crawled over towards you, and you picked him up and allowed him to cling to you.

"Bruce, stop arguing with your daughter about how loud she was. She knows she was loud." Carrie replied.

"See your mommy agrees with me." You smiled.

"But mom always agrees with you." She replied.

Well, that was not true, not true whatsoever.

But it was nice she believed the lie.

Just like you. Believing the lie that everything would be okay.

But nothing would be okay. Not for a long time.

But you had Carrie… and the kids.

There's also the fact that there is plenty of isekai that no one thinks to call Isekai but is and fucking great like, oh I don't know....The Chronicles of Narnia? I get where Magoose is coming from, especially considering how oversaturated the genre has become in only a few short years, but soooo many things can qualify as isekai(Digimon is another example that just popped into my mind as I'm typing this) that it becomes a bit unfair to say that isekai, as a whole, is trash. Though in the end, obvious hyperbole is obvious.
On that topic, I think that Isekai as a genre is actually about to pop up into existence in the 80s because of Dreamworks and Lucasfilms and Disney helping to show so many Japanese animes and movies to American audiences that Japanese entertainment becomes mainstream. @Magoose Are you sure we need to do four Batman actions this turn since there are currently only five options?

@overmind If we have to do four would you be willing to do the flash after credits or is there something you want to do with the script.

Also Magoose, what kind of role is Brandon getting? This kind of stinks since I literally wanted to do an action this turn to recruit John Avildsen so that we could produce Kung Fu Kid next turn and start production with Avildsen as Director. If Brandon is doing a movie role, I suppose next turn we can start production on Killer Queen with Debbie and Carrie. Would synergize nicely with the Debbie option.

Also really concerned with the Mary action. I don't see why Mary would be motivated to write to a bunch of scientists or do super smart stuff. She absolutely does not need to lose her childhood and do such complicated things and I can't see Carrie agreeing.

Yep. The rest of production will, be one action only that you need to do.

But they are big actions that deserved to be special.

That is for you to find out.

Also, I just realized I forgot an action or two. pasted the wrong one.

Seeing as Isekai was American/English in origin, I would assume so.

Edit: As was anime.

If you want to do the After credits then that's fine. I can make something with all the characters in the same planet for the script.

As for what options I'd like, I'm thinking selecting a new actor (Hoskins is my choice, or Danny DeVito will do as well), the option with Guiness and Fox as well.

Also, i support just hiring Avildsen and leeing him do the kung Fu Kid already.

TV Pitch: John Doe
You know, I find it odd now that this show was the first introduction I had to Dominic Purcell. When I saw him next in Prison Break it was like he was an entirely different man, and hardly recognizable, and yet this was where I first noticed his career. And what a show it was, the entire premise was amazing from beginning to end. I would watch this show every day, enjoy the drama, the mystery of it all, and nearly cried when Karen died near the final episodes. I was ready to see this through the end, and when Digger was revealed to be a part of the mysterious organization I had the entire floor fell beneath me. I was waiting with baited breath for the next chapter and see what would happen.

...A chapter that never came, it just rewound to the first episode and started over again. It took over a year for me to find out that the show had been cancelled.

Even now I can't seem to find just what the crap was Fox thinking, or if there's even a rational reason to freaking cancel such an amazing TV show with an excellent premise! Well, their loss is our gain, as this is just the kind of idea we need for our network, and will do great in our new channel as one of the flagship shows. Frankly, if we could get to do Serenity/Firefly then it would be all the better, but I'm not going to deny Joss Whedon the chance when we get to hire him in the future.

Thus, I give you:

TV Pitch:
John Doe

GENRE: Drama/Science Fiction/Thriller

SUBGENRE: Mystery/Crime

FORMAT: TV Show

Set Up: An unidentified man awakens off the cost of Seattle, Washington, with no memory of his name nor register. Taking the name of "John Doe", he now attempts to find clues about his past by using his unusual ability which grants him the sum of all human knowledge, while also helping to solve crimes with the Seattle police department. In the process it becomes clear that an international conspiracy known as the Phoenix Organization is watching John's every move.

Showrunner: Ron Howard
Composer: Mike Post

John Doe: He's a mysterious man who awakens on an island off the coast of Seattle, Washington, naked, and with absolutely no memory of who he is or how he got there. Doe has the capacity to know every piece of information available in the world, from the ingredients in a box of Apple Jacks to the mating rituals of a quagga's zebra. And no one's more surprised or troubled by the things in his head than he is. That's not to say knowing everything isn't without its perks – it can come in quite handy when playing the ponies or dabbling in the stock market. As Doe traverses on this desperate search to recover his past, he slowly builds a present - with a home, an assistant and friends. And the curse of having the world's knowledge in his brain is made a little easier when he discovers he can use it to help others.

Played By: Tony Danza
Alternate: Dirk Benedict

Karen Kawalski: She is a whip smart, sharp-tongued art student who talks her way into being Doe's 'assistant'; a job which mainly entails trying to figure out who-the-Shanghai her boss is. Determined to do her job right, she invests her energy-to-spare in helping Doe craft a life and identity for himself. Her breezy demeanor is a practiced shield to cover the difficult life she's led after being orphaned as a child. She and Doe share a kinship over their unknown origins, but unlike Doe she has no desire to recover any part of her troubling past, including the identity of her parents.

Played By: Melinda Culea
Alternate: Heather Locklear

Officer Frank Hayes: He is a devoted father and seasoned detective who's seen most of what the city of Seattle can throw at a person. Yet he's never come across the likes of John Doe. Reluctant at first to accept his help, Hayes begrudgingly grows to trust Doe's bizarre outbursts of facts and theories. They form a tentative bond, but Hayes never forgets there must be more to the mysterious Doe than he's sharing.

Played By: Charlie Robinson
Alternate: Reginald VelJohnson

Lieutenant Jamie Avery: She is a second-generation police officer, following in her late father's footsteps. Recently promoted to Lieutenant, she finds the onerous task of giving orders to long-time friend Hayes made even more complicated by the exasperating presence of John Doe. Although she prefers to toe the company line, she can't deny the results Doe's special gifts bring to her tougher cases.

Played By: Linda Evans
Alternate: Lindsay Wagner

Digger: He is an anti-establishment sage with a checkered past that seems to have straddled both sides of the law. He's proprietor of The Sea, a local watering-hole where Doe has scored a regular gig as piano man. And since it is also located beneath Doe's posh loft, Doe and he get plenty of time to match bartending wits and elusive pasts.

Played By: John Forsythe
Alternate: Martin E. Brooks

A.N.: Most of the actors are the ones available right now, so it can be done and released by next year. I put Tony Danza as the main actor because I find it funny how the man who looks more like a muscle brained jock is the smartest and most knowledgeable man in the world. Really subvert the expectations of everyone right from the beginning (and doing it right instead of that crap that Rian Johnson and OTL Lucasfilms tries to peddle at us!). Most of the other actors I think deserve a chance to shine, and we can do it with this series, which hopefully can last a good 2 to 3 seasons on TV, becoming a cult classic that is beloved to this day. Heck, perhaps we can find something that will extend it even more.

what the crap was Fox thinking
Well there is your first problem

Fox thinking about anything at all is something that will never fucking happen.

They are quite literally run by idiots, and how they haven't run their company to the ground still amazes the hell out of me.

They lucked into star wars, they lucked into the great talents of Ridley Scott... Everything about that studio is luck and nothing else.

If they had any brains, they would have become the most dominat force in Hollywood I'd reckon.

But now they are just another subsidiary of Disney. at least 20th century fox. :V

That seems somewhat unfair to say I think. That sale to Disney was one of the most impressive business moves to come out of Hollywood in a long time, given how skewed it was in Fox's favor(although whether you want to view that as Murdoch being shrewd or Iger being a fucking dumbass is dependent on how you'd like to see it), and then Murdoch turned around and used the money that Disney overpaid with to just buy Tubi and make it a solid competitor in the streaming wars at much cheaper then anyone else was doing it because he wasn't a dumbass and just bought a company with the infrastructure already in place. And on Disney's side, they've gained nearly nothing out of the Fox deal and have been able to making nothing out of it.
